[pg-13] saddle club fanfic
SUMMARY: Everyone is busy now. Carole is caught up in her own dreamy riding world while she cant even get Starlight to go over the medium course of fences. Stevie is oh so happy about her practical jokes and cant wait to try one on Veronica. Trouble is, if Stevie doesn’t patch up those grades, she wont be able to ride! Lisa is super busy helping the new foal, that her mother is getting anxious. She wants Lisa to knit or do ballet. Plus school, boyfriends, jobs and horses.. how will the Saddle Club ever have time for each other?
“Go Carole!” Stevie Lake and Lisa Atwood were shouting as 16 year old, Carole Hanson flew over the high obstacle of fences with her gorgeous bay Thoroughbred , Starlight. Carole grinned at her friends and urged Starlight on. “And as Carole Hanson aboard Starlight Dream **am making up a show name** shoot for the finish with a time of 89.1 seconds and 0 faults!” The announcer’s loud voice boomed. Carole’s heart started beating quickly. As she soared over the last fence with a large grin upon her face. She had to canter quite a few circles until Starlight finally slowed down to a walk. With one hand, she held the reins while the other gave Starlight’s sweaty neck a big pat. “And we have a winner ”the announcer declared. Carole jumped off and gave Starlight another big hug. Stevie, her father, Max and Lisa all came over and congratulated her. Oh, I did it! I made it, Carole thought happily. Everyone was patting her on the back. She felt so proud.

Carole! Carole Hanson! Are you up?” a loud familiar voice called, rising up the stairs to Carole’s bed room. Carole grumbled. “Yes, Dad,” she lied and then strolled out of bed. “I getting dressed!” She called. As she slipped off her pajamas and replaced them with some jodphurs and a t-shirt along with her paddock boots ;she took a glance in the mirror. In its reflection she saw a girl with messy jet black hair which dangled past her shoulders and a tiny little pimple on the end on her nose, instead of a pretty girl dressed in clean jodphurs and a show coat with her hair neatly in a bun. “Oh dam!” It had only been a dream. Carole moaned again but went downstairs to the kitchen anyways where her father was baking pancakes. Carole’s eyes widened. Ever since her mother had passed away, she and her father had always split the house work. But today Colonel was surprising her. she sunk down into the chair to eat her plateful of delicious pancakes, oozing with syrup. Carole grinned. At least everything isn’t so bad!

Meanwhile, Stevie, short for Stephanie Lake was busy getting ready for going to the barn too. She pulled on her faded sweater with the holes in it and her tattered jeans which them too had holes. Infact almost all of Stevie’s clothes had at least one hole! She leaped out of her room in a good mood, as she passed her twin brother, Alex’s room, she jumped up and down outside the door grinning to herself evilly. Stomp, stomp, bounce, jump, pacing back and forth out of Alex’s bed room. She must of down it at least 15 times before Alex began to holler. “Stevie. You shut up!” He yelled angrily from his bed. Stevie grinned even wider and began to stomp some more. “Stevie! Leave your brother alone and come downstairs for breakfast!” Mrs Lake called finally from downstairs. Even though Stevie would of liked to keep annoying him, she skipped downstairs with the smile still on her freckled face. “Eat your breakfast, Stevie” Mr Lake instructed. So Stevie grabbed a bowl and some cereal and poured an enormous amount into the bowl so it was practically overflowing! She helped herself to at least 3 spoon fulls of sugar and then gobbled it all down, then hopping out the door.

Lisa Atwood was too also on her way to Pine Hollow Stables. She cheerfully whistled to herself as she climbed into her neatly pressed riding pants, tall boots and neat cardigan. Lisa ate her breakfast as quick as she could and took 2 carrots out of the fridge. One for Prancer, the thoroughbred mare she rode and one for Daisy. Daisy was Delilah’s filly. Daisy was only just born. She was helping out to train and feed her. “Lisa?” Mrs Atwood called. “Yes Mother?” Lisa asked slipping into her jacket. “Where are you going, dear?” Mrs Atwood called from, the living room where she was sipping her coffee and reading the news. Lisa looked puzzled and she poked her head into the living room. “To the barn, Mom…” she said curiously. “The barn?” Mrs Atwood shrieked. She sighed and shook her head. “Lisa, Lisa. When will you learn that it isn’t all horses and books. You need to start becoming a proper lady. Sewing, knitting, cooking and dancing,” She placed her hands gently on her lap. Lisa frowned. She did care about what her mother thought of her, and being a young woman. But Daisy needed her. No, actually, Lisa told her self. Daisy doesn’t need me totally. Carole would be helping too. Of course. Carole was the most horse craziest one of them all. She and Stevie ever so loved them too, but Carole loved them the most. Lisa nodded. “Fine,” she replied. “I have some homework to do too” she nodded again and began to make her way out the door. “Lisa? One last thing, when you get home I expect you to either browse the catalogue for a dance class or help me make pie. Agreed?” Mrs Atwood said, sternly. “Yes, mother.” Lisa poliety responded. Then she was off.

“That was one hard workin’ lesson!” Stevie announced at the end of the class. “I agree,” Lisa said, loosing Prancer’s girth. “My legs are absolutely killing me!” she gave Prancer a pat and then began to head out. It had been a hard class. Max had made them all do sitting trot with out stirrups for at least 20 minutes. It had been especially tough for Stevie who had eaten a large helping of cookies just before the lesson that she thought she might be sick. Then Max had made them all take back their stirrups while he set up 4 fences in a row which he explainned were grids. It was to be done at a trot and then at a canter. Max had also had them, to finish off with, walk canter transitions. Walk, canter. Walk, canter. “How did you find it Carole?” Lisa asked. Carole didn’t reply, which made Lisa and Stevie exchange worried glances. Carole ignored her friends. The truth was Carole had had a terrible time on Starlight. He kept slowing down and speeding up which made Carole nearly loose her balance and slip off. He made things worse by keeping putting down his head to buck. Then he wouldn’t listen to her aids as she went over the fences. “Grrr…” she growled. After she had put Starlight away by giving him a quick groom and his hay, Max came up to her. “Carole? Is something the matter?” he asked, gently putting a hand on her shoulder. Carole quickly shook her head. No way did she want to be a sore loser. “You sure?” he asked, staring into her brown eyes with his gentle kind blue ones. Carole sighed and put a hand to her forhead. “It’s just Starlight never seems to listen to me anymore. He does the exact opposite of what I ask of him,” she said gloomily. “Hmm….” Max said, in thought. “Maybe you need to practice more with him. Come up tomorrow and give him a little longe lesson.”"That was one hard workin' lesson!" Stevie announced at the end of the class. "I agree," Lisa said, loosing Prancer's girth. Lisa in dismay walked over to Daisy’s stall. There was being so distracted with Prancer, helping Red and asking Mrs Reg. about sewing that when she looked at her watch she realized she wasn’t going to have much time with Daisy or her friends. Disappointed, she opened the door to only see Daisy’s head poking out. Carole usually beat her to the stall and Lisa usually expected Carole to be there grooming or feeding Daisy. But she wasn’t. Neither was Stevie. Lisa petted Daisy then backed out of the stall. Red O’Malley was sweeping the hall. “Excuse me, Red, but have you seen Carole or Stevie?” she asked him. Red stopped sweeping and lifted his head. “Uh..I saw Stevie just a few minutes ago. She was with some guy, I’m pretty sure it was Phil. She didn’t say where she was going but she seemed happy,” Red shrugged and continued. “And Carole. Hmm. Carole. No, I’m not sure where she is. I suppose with Starlight or something. She seemed quite upset” Red informed. Lisa muttered a thank you in thought. She knew Carole hadn’t had such a good ride on Starlight, but she dealt with these things well. She was by far a better rider then Lisa was and knew a heck of a lot more. But that did not mean that she couldn’t come help Lisa with Daisy liked they had planned. In fact it had been Carole’s idea! As for Stevie, she couldn’t get angry too much. She was with Phil and Phil lived far away so he and Stevie didn’t get to see each other as much as they would of liked to. (Lisa’s boyfriend Skye Powell-an actor lived far away and if he was coming to see her, she’d accept of course. She just adored him) But still they had said they’d do it. Lisa spun around on her heel and turned to go home.
