Character's name: Maya/Naomi Marinos (Collectively referred to as Mayomi) Age Upon Entering/At Death: 21 Age Now: 21 Race: Undine
Appearance:
Mayomi stands at about 5'8". Her overall smooth skin bears a very light tint of blue, while her hair and eyes share a somewhat deeper teal color. Her full-bodied hair reaches to the base of her neck, hiding well the four slits that form her gills which are positioned on the back of her neck on either side of her spine and sloping inward. She wears a small pair of round, thin-framed glasses resting high on the bridge of her thin nose, offering her a youthful but intelligent appearance.
Mayomi wears something very much like a very long but short-sleeved shirt which hugs her upper body and reaches halfway down her thighs in the front and back, though on the sides it is cut a few inches higher. This shirt is colored a very light teal color that is just a few shades away from an off-white, with a design resting in a pattern resembling an eagle with its wings spread, which is outlined in thin black lines but colored white. Around her waist is a dark blue (but not quite navy) sash, tied into a small bow at her right hip, with the two hanging ends of the sash reaching down to her knee. Finally, she wears a pair of boots that reach up to mid-thigh and also bear a light teal color.
Personality:
'Mayomi' has two distinct personalities sharing one body: one named Maya, and the other Naomi. Maya is the original personality, and is therefore the one that is present most of the time. She is somewhat timid, but also bears an almost extreme form of kindness and empathy toward other sentient beings. Maya is calm, intelligent and largely in control of her emotions, but also tends to shy away from confrontation, and in fact isn't very good at dealing with conflict at all.
That's where Naomi comes in. The other personality is actually stronger and more forceful than Maya, to a point where she could practically force Maya back and take control of their body at will. However, the two personas have come to an agreement with each other, and such a thing is seldom necessary. Whereas Maya is kind and caring toward other people, Naomi cares for none but herself and Maya, whom she sees as somewhat of a younger sister, despite Maya having come first. She is undoubtedly the more aggressive one, and unlike her 'sister' she is not one to shy away from confrontation.
Though there has been conflict between the two in their past, they have both accepted that like it or not, they're stuck together, so rather than always living in conflict with each other they have set aside their differences and actually manage to get along pretty well despite their differences.
Biography:
In the world that Mayomi originates from, the Undine are an all-female race that are formed by natural forces of magic in their 'adult' form rather than regular childbirth. Newly-formed Undine are raised by the community, and such was no different in Maya's case. When Maya was born, she was no different from any of the others: young, ignorant, and most importantly, with just one personality. She was raised in a tight-knit community that was very protective of their people and their homeland where she would be taught, among the other things essential to intelligent life, how to utilize and increase her control over water.
While the Undine were rather secluded, that did not stop tales being spread by the few travelers that did encounter them. Rumors would float about amongst the humans of that world telling of the society of beautiful (though somewhat blue) women, and a variety of men would become interested for a variety of reasons. In response to increasing numbers of 'visitors' the Undine, wanting to keep their society separate from the humans, would begin to send out small scouting parties to turn the humans away or otherwise mislead them.
At the age of 16, Maya was sent in a scouting group with two others, both of whom were older and more experienced than she. It was the first time she had left home, making her excited and nervous at the same time. The trip had been mostly uneventful, and they were on their way home when they were jumped by half a dozen humans who had been hiding and waiting for their passing. There was a struggle, and one of the three was killed while Maya and her other companion were rendered unconscious, taken alive and later sold as slaves.
Maya was sold to a wealthy merchant. She was made to do his physical labor, and on many occasions was forced to endure various forms of physical and sexual abuse. It was a dramatic change to go so suddenly from a loving society to living as a slave to an extremely abusive master, living in constant fear of what would happen to her next. It would begin to take its toll on her, and while she didn't show it outwardly, she began to resent the man she was forced to call 'master'.
After several months passed, Maya would begin to notice another voice in her thoughts, telling her to stick up for herself, look for a way to gain freedom, or even kill her 'master'. It started as just an occasional thought, but as time progressed it would become increasingly frequent until that voice became ever-present in her thoughts, giving thoughts and opinions that were not her own. That voice would develop its own identity, giving itself the name Naomi.
More months would pass, and Maya had remained as a slave for over a year when Naomi developed the strength to take over the body that was now shared by the two of them. It would happen for the first time one night after having been sexually abused again; after the merchant had gone to sleep, Naomi would sneak out of her quarters, steal a kitchen knife and hide it in her room. When her 'master' came in the next night looking for more of the same, Naomi would take over again, killing the man before he could have his way with her that night. Afterwards, she fled.
While she was relieved to be free of him, Maya was abhorrent of the method used to gain their freedom. It was a necessary evil, Naomi would say. She would accuse Maya of cowardice, pointing out that she was doing nothing to protect herself. If you won't defend yourself, Maya, she said, then I will do it for you.
From that moment, there was a frequent struggle in Maya's head between herself and her other self. Maya would try to find her way home then, but that proved to be a difficult task. The merchant was well-known in town, so rumors of his death and the missing blue-skinned servant spread quickly. As the only blue-skinned woman in town or anywhere nearby, this made it exceedingly difficult for her to hide safely. She would find herself pursued by authorities, at which point Naomi would take control of their body by force and fight back. She fled after managing to kill one of the attacking guards, much to Maya's dismay as she was forced to watch the whole thing.
For a time after that, Mayomi became a drifter of sorts. They found it difficult to get by on normal means, as they were unfamiliar with much of human society. In the interest of survival, Naomi would often resort to thievery and the occasional mugging; unfortunately, she had associated the things they had suffered as that merchant's slave with all humans, so she wasn't above the occasional murder to get what they needed as well, despite protests from Maya.
With this criminal lifestyle, they were forced to move frequently from place to place in order to avoid being caught. Maya and Naomi were almost constantly arguing with each other in between running to survive, as Maya didn't share the other personality's anger and hatred toward humans. However, both of them were growing weary of the constant fighting, especially when combined with the physical and emotional toll that their current lifestyle was taking on both of them. Still, for a time, it would continue.
However, this would change when, by a stroke of luck, they passed by a small group of people on the road to another town. Maya had taken to traveling with her face hidden by a large cloak, so that her own identity - especially that blue skin - would be hidden. Though she had kept her eyes mostly toward the ground while traveling, she happened to look up as she passed these three people, and froze as they passed her by. She recognized one of those three, her blue skin and emerald-colored hair a dead giveaway, identifying her as Adena, the younger of her other companions that had been captured along with Maya. The young undine uncovered her head and called her old friend's name.
As it turned out, while Maya had been sold to a cruel merchant, Adena's 'masters' were far more gentle and kind people. In fact, they had bought Adena with the intent of freeing her, as they do with other would-be slaves they buy from the slave traders. However, because they couldn't help her to return home, they offered her a place to stay with them instead. She told Maya of this story, at which point her two companions extended a similar offer toward her: to allow Maya to stay with them until they can find their way home. She happily accepted, but Naomi remained wary.
Maya returned to their rather large home with them and lived rather peacefully for the next few years. Naomi's apprehension toward these people would turn out to be unfounded, as from the moment they came into this couple's home they were treated more as family than as servants. It was during this time of peace that Maya and Naomi would manage to come to terms with each other as well. At last they had found happiness in this new home, though Maya and Adena never forgot their original home either.
Unfortunately, this peace would not last. It would seem as though all had forgotten about the merchant that Naomi had killed those years ago, but there was one man who hadn't: the man's son. He held an undying grudge against Maya, for a lowly servant daring to kill her master and flee. Though it took some time, he managed to track her down to this couple's home where he would show up one day with a small group of his own personal guards, flashing a warrant for Maya's arrest (though it was, in reality, a fake; his actual plan was to take her away and kill her himself.) The couple claimed no knowledge of her whereabouts, but the young man and his guards burst in anyway, easily overpowering the elderly couple.
The guards made their way through the home, finding only Adena whom at first they had mistaken for Maya, who was out of the house going for food. She returned just then to find the door open, and her loved ones held by guards led by a familiar young man. Maya and Naomi recognized him immediately, and could guess what he was after. Naomi quickly took over, and could easily have fled...but she didn't trust the merchant's son and his lackeys to leave these people unharmed, so instead she performed her first uncharactaristically selfless act: she attacked the guards holding Adena - aiming NOT to kill this time, at Maya's request - injuring one and successfully freeing the captive Undine. However, they all quickly turned on her, and she was subdued moments later even as she commanded Adena to escape and protect their benefactors of the past years.
In the end, Naomi found herself held captive by the guards, but Adena had managed to escape with the kind elderly couple. The merchant's son, ready to take his revenge, approached with a dagger in hand and a sinister smile on his face. He approached slowly. Even as that dagger would be slipped between her ribs, through her lung and heart, Naomi struggled with every last bit of strength she could muster, though it was ultimately in vain.
The merchant's son had his revenge, and Maya was never to see her home again. Little she realize, this end would only be the beginning...
Powers, if any: Mayomi, like the rest of her people, has power over water. Whether for offensive purposes, defensive purposes or otherwise, she has developed a strong manipulation of water. This includes all of the following:
General Water Manipulation - Can create and actively control up to a gallon of water.
Burst - Quickly creates a ball of water which is projected forward at high velocity and pressure. This isn't meant to harm so much as it is to knock an aggressive person back.
Water Blade (Naomi only) - In the interests of self-defense, Naomi has developed the ability to form water into a semi-solid blade able to hold a sharp edge.
Healing Stream (Maya only) - Maya has learned to infuse her manipulated water with healing properties, making it able to mend wounds whenever it may flow over them.
Weapons, if any: None outside of powers.
Additional information:
- Both Maya and Naomi are apprehensive toward sex. Maya is likely to respond to sexual advances by freezing in a sort of panicked state, while Naomi would more than likely respond with violence.
- The glasses they wear aren't for correcting vision. Instead, they react to active pain receptors (in another body or their own), causing painful or discomforted areas seen through the glasses to light up with varying intensity depending on the amount of pain being suffered.

BUSHWA! Your profile is GORGEOUS! I love the character, the personality. D.I.D is a fun trait! The bio is lovely, and descriptive, just like it should be, and you have her powers down, something I am usually too lazy to do. ;_; Bad me. ACCEPTED *STAMP*
