Walters Wonderous Wares
Name: Dreahot
Contact information: zorac_the_mantis@yahoo.com

Character's name: Walter (Wally)
Age Upon Entering/At Death: 52
Age Now: 58 (appears to be late 20s)
Race: Formerly Human

Appearance: Beady black eyes stick out from Wally’s head. They show a cunning intellect, but with a hint of paranoia. He has thinning, spiky light blonde hair coming out from the sides of his balding head. He wears a make-shift turban out of a dirty white rag, not a turban in the true sense but simply a cloth draped around his head to protect from the harsh sun. Hiding behind thin cracked lips is a set of sharp, pointy teeth. His face is often scowered, his eyes squinting as he sizes up his potential customers. His face is blemished with patches of dirt and grime.

Wally appears quite lanky, especially for as short an individual as he is. Over his bare chest he wears a dirty ragged vest, within which he has personally sewn a slew of pockets to carry the various trinkets he sells. On his lower body Wally wears bright red dress pants that seem to have been worn almost religiously for some time. The formerly designer pants look to be at least three sizes to big for his thin, short frame, and have not been treated with much care, now being almost reduced to bright red rags. Through the belt holes of the expensive pants is a simple piece of knotted rope he uses as a belt, giving them an almost curtain-like quality about his legs. Poking through a hole cut into the back of the pants sticks a dirty, pink tail, adorned with only the occasional spiky hair. He wears no shoes, though it is often hard to tell with how weathered his feet have become; they appear almost jet black with his toes curled over gripping the ground, his nails long and unkempt extending to the ends of his toes.

Personality: Cunning, Unscrupulous, Paranoid

Wally is a charlatan, plain and simple, always looking for the next mark, always looking for that next easy dollar. He holds no ill-will towards anyone, but neither does he have any affection in his heart. Wally’s sole interest in life is survival, having secured that his interests turn to improving his lifestyle to the highest point possible without of course too much risk to his life. He has individuals he would call friend but only out of necessity, a means to an end. Life for Wally is a constant measuring of risks and rewards, nothing but numbers adding up to his decisions. He lives his life in paranoia, thinking that everyone else is like him, constantly plotting, changing their options, finding his usefulness less and less important in the face of what killing him might mean.

He can often be seen scurrying this way and that through the streets of the city, a large sack slung over his shoulder. At rare times, when he feels that he will be safe he “sets up shop” on the corner, simply rolling out a small blanket and pouring out the bag full of trinkets he has acquired in his travels to sell to any passer-bys. Wally deals in items of great mystical power, items that grand the user abilities ranging from increased strength, speed and sense of smell to items that can let you peer back to the worlds before this one. At least that is his claim, in actuality Wally deals mostly in junk and lies, but there are not always so many newcomers to this world, so he does have a secondary, more prosperous business dealing in information. How he comes across this info is a closely guarded secret but he seems to always know a great deal about what is happening all over and is more that happy to share that information, for the right price.

Biography: Walter slowly opens his eyes, his body aching. “What happened? Where am I?” he thinks to himself, not having the strength to speak the words aloud. As his eyes open more fully he sees nothing but a bright clean white. He hears the faint sound of a man’s voice.

“There you are Walter, gave us a nasty scare there.” He spoke
“Am I dead?” Walter asks the strangely familiar voice.

The man breathes an annoyed sigh, “That is a very, very good question Walter” he replies. The echo of footsteps can be heard throughout the room as the man walks around. Walter leans forward as best he can; looking around the room he sees a few uncomfortable looking chairs, a television and various machines and baggies full of clear fluids. Walter slumped back into the bed. He is in the hospital, thank God he isn’t dead.

“Do you remember who I am Walter?” the man asks as he takes a seat beside the bed.
“You’re Danny Strom, my old colleague.”
“Daniel Strom” he quickly corrects Walter “but that is exactly right, do you know why I am here?”
“You are here because you were worried about me?”
Daniel lets out a short laugh, and continues smiling as he says, “I have been quite worried about you for some time Walter. Do you know why you are here?”
“I had an accident?”

Daniel nods for a moment, deep in though. He stands up from the chair and moves to look out the window as he speaks.

Walter, I wasn’t always like this, in fact I was never like this before you came along. You started it all. The program was losing funding; it was losing funding because you and I hadn’t made a significant archeological discovery in years. But you couldn’t let it go, you couldn’t accept that you, the renowned archeologist of West Washington University couldn’t even muster up the money to keep the small schools program going. You wouldn’t concede your name to the list of has-beens that would be lucky to get a job teaching high school geology.

So we had to lie, we had to steal, we had to falsify and all the other things I swore I would never do. I have become a lot more like you over the years Walter, and now that it has come to it, I will do anything, just as you would have, to keep my name from slipping into obscurity. I wanted to help you; I wanted you to be committed like the rest of us, the lie becoming the truth. You were the founder of the greatest scientific conspiracy of all time. You sent us all sliding down this slippery slope but you always had to have a way out. You always had your secrets.

I never understood how you got so many scientists, men who dedicated their lives to finding the truth, to lie so easily. Now I understand, it was fear, fear and greed, ideals and hopes drive kids, but it is fear and greed that drives men. You only fear two things Walter, death and losing your money. I can’t take away your money, you’ve protected it too well…”

The door swings open and in walks a young doctor with dark hair and painted on smile. Walter breathes a sigh of relief, happy to see another face. Daniel wouldn’t do anything with the doctor around. The doctor greets Daniel and moves to the I.V. injecting something to no doubt ease the terrible pain Walter has been feeling. The doctor mentions to Daniel that he should be leaving soon but allows him a few moments more while he makes sure the injection is flowing properly.

Daniel leans in close, speaking hushed but forceful words to Walter, “I have my secrets too. You have no idea how far we can reach now. Your two contacts at the paper have both gone missing but I suspect you will see them both very soon…” Daniel smiles an evil grin as he speaks the last words Walter would hear in his life on earth, “Goodbye, Wally.”
As Walters eyes slowly close and his body grows limp the doctor unplugs the heart monitor. His eyes close completely and darkness overcomes him

Powers, if any: When fearing for his life can disappear (with all his possessions) and will reappear at another location at random. Must wait several hours before he has enough energy to teleport again and cant call it up at will, only when truly fearful.

Weapons, if any: Always carries a small rusted dagger sheathed at his ankle, used almost exclusively for food as he is more apt to run rather than fight.

Additional information: “Welcome” as in not killed instantly in all major cities. Hard to find but when you are looking for him he seems to almost find you.

--------------------------------------------------

Edit: Changed current age to reflect coming just before the start of the war.

Re: Walters Wonderous Wares
I like where you're going. You put "Grand" where "grant" should be, though, in the line "items that *grant* supernatural strength, etc.." or whatever.

I look forward to its finish and accepting it. XD

LOVELY!

Glad to see you in, but please, remember:

Everything roleplayed here is in third person past tense. Your biography is wonderful, but when RPing, please use past tense, okay? I'm moving you to the accepted section! Welcome to SC!
