"It depends," Carley replied, "on what horses you ride. Now, I'm asuming that you'll mainly be riding for this farm becase you're exercising for us ..." Her voice trailed off as she shut the the barn door to keep it cool inside. She looked down at Mandy. "Go get Rebel from his stall, sweetie."
She turned her eyes back to Andrea. "The owner's also have a say in who you'll ride," she replied. "And the stallion's name is Shimmering Coal. Just call him Devil."

She knew Ebony had spirit and determination from all the times she'd ridden her but it made her proud to hear it from another jockey. Maybe they'd actually have a winner in the barn this year maybe one that could beat Whitebrook Stables. Caryn then rode out onto the track feeling confident that she could get a good ride out of her favorite filly. Now if the rest of the yearlings showed so much promise.*

Michelle nodded excitedly. "I wanna canter for a long time," she replied. "I heard the assistant trainer's kids talking and said that Hickory has a really smooth canter." She turned around and grinned slyly at Michelle. "I wanna jump, too! Please, Sherray, please?!"

If she could get a good lesson from her cross-country horse, the one she used for her part in the Middle Age reenactment her day would be just about perfect. After handing Ms. Goth's reins off to a waiting groom she strode off to the stallion barn to tack up her strawberry roann by the name of Fiery Cinnamon.*

"sure but first lets warm them up ok" she said kindly she nudged butter slightly with her heels and the mare sprung into a trot.
"easy girl" she murmered The mare danced around for a bit but then settled down and let out a snort.

Michelle nodded and squeezed with her legs. Hickory instantly went into his trot. Michelle posted along easily. However, it felt different from Rebel's smaller stride. But, the young girl managed.

Carley nodded as she sent her daughter off to get the grooming things. She slipped on Rebel's halter and held him while her daughter groomed him.
"Broke his maiden as a two-year-old, by five lengths. And he kept winning all of his races. The old owner's decided to put him in the Breeder's Cup and he just broke down at the end. They pushed him too hard, the track was muddy, they got the inside rail and kept him going and going. Right before the wire, he slipped in the mud, killed the jockey and broke his leg." She shook her head. "A real shame. I followed his career. And when I found out he was for sale, I didn't consult with the owner's of this farm and just bought him. I'm hoping he'll be able to race again, but I don't know. I've only trotted him long-distance and canter him about a minute. Too afraid he'll break down again."
Michelle looked overat Sherray. She shook her head. "Nope," she replied. "But I should start. Since Mandy is probably gonna ride Rebel now."

"Wow, I bet you he can come back did he break down as a two year old or did he break down in the Classic, he's a magnificant animal looks a little like Deputy Star the Derby and the Preakness winner though" Andrea asked wiping her eyes from tears.

Michelle nodded. "Sure," she replied. She clucked to the horse and gave him a little nudge with her heels and the horse sprinted off at a canter.
"Yeah, it was in the Classic," Carley replied as she helped her daughter tack up the small, roan pony. "And I believe he has some of Deputy Star's bloodlines. They're cousins, or half-brothers or something like that." She tightened the girth lightly and then brought down Rebel's stirrups to her daughter's size.

" I'll ctach up" she called out
"come on girl" she muttered squezing harder. Butter didnt have time to react a rabbit hopped across the path and she took off.when they caught up to Michelle .Sherray smiled apolegitacly.
"Its her first time on the trails so shes a little jumpy"

"ok but just for a bit.... she can handle the speed and she needs to get used to trails I think I might try her as a crosscountry jumper. She 's got the heart " Sherray said she slowed down butter to a walk and partted her neck .smiling she looked at michelle then at butter she grinned. " Michelle.." she began " would you ever consider excersising butter for me once I finish her training?. She's really a sweatheart" she asked
