General Information
Bolingbroke was founded in 1602 by William and Olivia Bolingbroke. Set in the heart of the Rocky Mountains in Canada, Bolingbroke Academy is a school dedicated to educating young Canadian witches and wizards with the hopes of shaping them into useful members of wizarding society. Since it’s founding, Bolingbroke has grown into a school dedicated to excellence, and traditionally demands the best from its students. Graduates from Bolingbroke have been accepted into positions at prominent wizarding universities, have become successful entrepreneurs, and have become important members of the Canadian Magical Parliament.
Located north of the muggle tourist town of Banff and only several hours drive from the muggle cities of Calgary and Edmonton, Bolingbroke students learn to experience life in both worlds, muggle and wizarding, and many students find their lives enriched by it. Surrounded by the stunning Rockies, students are free to go on weekend excursions on popular hiking trails in the mountains and are encouraged to enjoy the natural beauty around them. On the school’s property there are stables, a fully equipped Quidditch pitch, not to mention the school’s extensive grounds.
The school itself is a large manor that is magically hidden from muggle eyes, as are the rest of the grounds. The school has two large dorm buildings (one boys, one girls) that can fit fifty six students each. Boys dorms are located in the east wing of the school, girls dorms in the west wing. Teachers offices are located on the second floor of the school, classrooms and the main office on the first. The school was built from the very foundations of the mountains, and in reality the back half of the school has actually been hewn from the stone. The classrooms and teachers offices, for the most part, are located within the mountain itself, though it appears to be a dim castle rather than the inside of a cave. The student dorms were added on later in time, and are built of stone so that the mountain and school buildings blend together as one. In the center of the school (the outside portion) there is a large courtyard, and streaming down from above is a large waterfall that has been magically altered to always fall directly in the center of the courtyard into a large pool. This water provides much of the school’s fresh water after being properly treated. The grounds are in front of the school instead of behind it, due to its unique construction, and extend for a good mile and a half in each direction, if not further. The entirety of the school’s grounds are magically hidden from muggle sight.
Bolingbroke draws it’s students from the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan, though will occasionally accept students from other locations in Canada and, in unique circumstances, from the United States. Students are admitted in all years (muggle grades seven through twelve), though restrictions may apply depending on registration numbers. Please note that students start at Bolingbroke at the age of twelve in first year, and graduate at the age of seventeen or eighteen.
Bolingbroke’s colours are gray, blue, and red.
