The Prologue
Throughout the world, dark magic is rising and falling - the most famous example being, of course, the rise of Lord Voldemort in Europe. Canadians were relatively unaffected by this man's rise to power, though they understood the gravity of the situation and were happy to offer their aid to wizards throughout the world. They breathed a collective sigh of relief along with the rest of the world when Harry Potter defeated Voldemort for a second time, and then went back to their business, dealing with their own problems closer to home.
Dark Magic has always been something that has been looked down on, but there have always been those drawn to it's power. Of late, it seems like these numbers are growing quickly. The Canadian Ministry of Magic has noticed a growing number of murders, unexplained deaths, and strange disappearances, and is at a complete loss for what to do. Thus far all it has managed to accomplish is keep these strange occurrences quiet, so most of the wizarding population is still quite oblivious to it, but still there have been leaks and people are becoming worried. It has become clear that soon, all too soon, some of these dark wizards will become discontent with their place in life and decide to go for something higher - there is an attack coming, though no one but the dark wizards know where and when.
The dark wizards have decided to strike at the places where witches and wizards are most vulnerable - the schools. Half-trained witches and wizards are not threats yet, but they will be, and while it isn't their intention to slaughter every student they lay eyes on, it is their intention to gain control over the schools and mold the students as they wish. However, the teachers are hardly about to let their students lose their lives, at least not while they have any control over it. Many wizarding schools, including Bolingbroke Academy for Young Witches and Wizards, have placed strong protections on their schools and grounds with the hopes of deterring any sort of attack. However, even they aren't sure if that is enough.
At Bolingbroke, doubts from many of the student's parents are beginning to rise as a new Headmistress was recently appointed, one of the youngest in Bolingbroke's history. She is also the Defense Against the Dark Arts instructor, which many believe played a part in her appointment, though in truth that wasn't the only reason she was given the position. However, these doubts only reflect her own, and it's questionable as to how quickly she will step up to fill the shoes of her predecessor.
