I would like your opinions please...
I don't really intend to do this quite yet, but I really do want a good healer support character. This character will most likely be my main, as I like this role.
Hey, I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to do this, and I would like an opinion or two, if you don’t mind giving me your two cents worth. My first character was a priest, and because I wanted to try all these various spells as they opened up, she is effectively gimped. I like the idea of keeping my teammates alive and have always enjoyed holding the role of a healer, but I find that with this game I want something a little more. I don’t expect this to be a character that can hold her own in battle. She will be a full support character. That in mind, here is a template to get her to rank 59. (59 because there are not more training points to spend at r60)
Creation:
Elf: Drop str, dex, and con 5 points each, and take Brilliant Mind, and pump spirit enough to take Faith of the ages. Place last point in int.
(or) Centaur: Drop str, dex, and con 5 points each, and pump int enough to take Brilliant Mind. Place remaining point in int. (this is the one I will most likely choose, because the Centaur race has nice con and spirit, and a good run speed. I figure that I could always get a fairly decent spirit and int rune to add to maxes as well.
Distribution or stat points:
Raise int to max first, followed by spirit. Remaining points to be put in con.
Point distribution:
-        Hammer: 5 or 6, just enough to hold a scepter with either resistances, int, mana recovery, or any combination or those.
-        Block: enough to get it to 95%
-        Medium Armor: enough to take it high enough to wear Centaur leather and chain. (The addition of buffs will be better spent to round this out and benefit the group as well.)
-        Theurgy: Enough to raise it to 97% for Psalm of Sanction
-        Restoration: Enough to raise it to 115% for Prayer of Recovery
-        Benediction: Enough to raise it to 69% for summon
-        Blessed Health: GM
-        Blessed Strength: GM
-        Blessed Dexterity: GM
-        Blessed Protection: GM
-        Blessed Purity: 1
-        Sacred Rejuvenation (single target stam regen, on a timer): 8 (enough to open Benediction of Rejuvenation)
-        Benediction of Rejuvenation (group stamina regen, on a timer): 1
-        Tend the Wounded (single target heal) GM
-        Divine Recovery (single target HoT) 20-25
-        Prayer of Recovery (group HoT) 5-10
-        Grasp of the All Father (single target root): 5 (maybe less)
-        Sanction (single target paralyze): 15 (enough to open Psalm of Sanction)
Quote:
Theurgy: Enough to raise it to 97% for Psalm of Sanction
A stun is considered a attack so you'll need to raise your Theurgy a bit higher in order to hit your target. 140% min
Quote:
Restoration: Enough to raise it to 115% for Prayer of Recovery
You’re using 37 points to get from 78% to 115% for one spell. That spell is nice but not that nice. I'd stop at 78% and use the extra points to raise Theurgy.
IMO you should GM your single target stun and put 1 point into AOE stun.
Human because healers are target #1 and you need to live longer than a elf will live. I'd use the brilliant mind rune, max con and spirit at 100 and apply a big int rune.
I'll think about it some more but those are my initial thoughts.
Re: I would like your opinions please...
The thoughts on theurgy are great. I really appreciate that a lot. About the human/elf thing, I agree. What about Centaur? I like the run speed and costitution you get there. Only bad thing is you can't get the int as high, but I could take Wizards Apprentice first, then take Brilliant Mind to get a higher max. Tell me what you think about that versus human. I do hate how long they take to level, especially with our guild humans level faster..., but in the end it won't matter that much to get a solid character.
I also agree about the restoration line, just hadn't thought about it in that regard.
Re: I would like your opinions please...
Centaur with WA and BM would work out fine, that's what my Centaur prelate has and he is fine for int. I'm not sure that I would consider it better than a humam but it is a good and viable option and probably as good as a human.
Things to remeber:
1. You're not doing damage to anyone so you're mostly looking for int to give you a higher chance to hit on your stuns by effecting your attack rating.
2. Most people have healing so a priest healing is a luxury. You're main contributions will come though long stuns, stam heals and mana regen.
3. A 15 second stun is better than 30 second Heal over time
Re: I would like your opinions please...
Thanks guys, for the input. How about this:
Female Centaur @ creation -5 each Dex, Str, Con, and -1 spirit. Pump int 5 points. Take in order WA, BM, then True faith (to get back the -5 spirit that WA takes out).
Points to 59 spent the following way:
Hammer: 11 (38%)
Block: 68 (95%)
Medium Armor: 73 (100%)
Benediction: 42 (69%) (to open summons)
Restoration: 88 (115%) (I really want that group HoT :P )
Theurgy: 113 (140% )
Benediction line:
Prayer of Haste: 1
Summon: free
Restoration line:
Tend the Wounded: 40 (single target heal, GM)
Divine Recovery: 33 (single target HoT)
Prayer of Recovery: 10 (group HoT)
Sacred Rejuvination: 8 (single target stam recovery, on a timer)
Benediction of Rejuvination: 1 (group stam recovery, on a way longer timer)
Theurgy line:
Grasp if the All Father: 1 (root)
Blessed Purity: 20 (mana regen buff)
Sanction: 40 (GM, single target paralize/stun)
Psalm of Sanction: 40 (GM, AoE group paralize/stun)
That is every point spent. Not one buff, other than the 20 points in mana regen. Whatcha think?

Re: I would like your opinions please...
I don't think you'll use Psalm of Sanction enough to warrent GMing it. I'd GM the mana buff and bring down the AOE stun down to 20, however you could wait until 50+ to make that determination yourself and the rest looks good.
Re: I would like your opinions please...
I would guess it would depend if you're using this for pvp or pve?
If for pve you will rarely need it, but if for pvp it could become your most used spell? (I wish I had it)
You may want to see where the stun time breaks and go to a certain spot. If it takes 10 points to get only 1 second more, then it may not be worth those 10.

Re: I would like your opinions please...
Another option is to drop shield, go duel wield and carry two faith hammers. This would allow you to get a nice extra int/spirit buff on the extra hammer plus you would increase your attack rating by another 150. You would also save enough training points that you can GM another 2 skills.
Re: I would like your opinions please...
Since she's not going melee, she's only going to have hammer at 38%... so faith hammers won't work, but 2 others might, if she took the ambi rune at creation.

Re: I would like your opinions please...
After further thought, the precise rune would be the way to go. Ambi would require 50 dex and you don't want to put that much dex into a priest IMO.
WA, MB and precise.
With 150% mana regen you won't need more spirit than 100.
At 55 your could have 135 base int with a plus 30 int rune, 100 spirit and 90 con.
Re: I would like your opinions please...
Ok, sounds good. Take hammers to 38 for decent scepters? And drop block? or take hammers to 100 and get the attack rating? or which is batter? (not that I have to decide right now lol.)
Oh, and Psalm of Sanction starts out at 8 seconds and goes to only 14. So it will probabaly take 2 to 3 points to even get one more second I would think. Maybe starts out 2 points per second, then goes up? dunno...It has a 10 second recast timer and costs very little mana to cast (and only 1.5 seconds)

Re: I would like your opinions please...
I've never attempted to roll a priest, so I couldn't really give you very much advice for your template. However, it was mentioned before that you could take faith hammers. I don't think a priest can use faith hammers. I believe they are prelate and crusader weapons only. Not only that, you have to have 100% hammer just to use them. I also heard mention of the ambidexterity rune. You are correct about needing 50 dex to use one, but I think it is a fighter-only rune (all rogues are ambidex at creation).
I have a couple of friends that are rolling ambidextrous fighter/crusader dwarves. The bonus attack rating for dual weilding two +150 ATR faith hammers sounds very nice. I just don't like how high you have to pump your dex... and I don't like not having a shield for a class that is supposed to be primarily defensive. It sounds like I'm going off track, but I'm actually getting somewhere with this. The thing that I like about shields is the ability to block... not the extra defense. If you decide to go with shields, I would HIGHLY recommend a shield with passive defense +3 (or higher if they exist). That SIGNIFICANTLY increases your chance to block an attack. The extra blocking chance you get from passive defense is what makes the shield so helpful... not the extra points in defense. Still... I'm not sure if that would be better than medium armor. However, in PvP situations I tend to target people that DON'T have those huge 95% shields first... they take forever to melee down... unless they're wearing a robe like so many healer/channelers tend to do.
Here is what I'm getting at. Because of what I said above, you might want to consider wearing low level chain... carrying a low level mace... and a HUGE 95% shield. Go into a fight in combat stance and make sure you turn off the option to automatically follow your combat target. At a glance, I really can't tell that you're armor and your mace is low level. Some people might be able to, but not me. And I have a hunch that there are many other players that wouldn't be able to either. So... this might be enough to make people think you are a melee-type. Only if they target you would they realize that you are actually a priest. This deception might be enough to save your bacon.
Re: I would like your opinions please...
If you're not going to melee, there's no reason to raise your hammer to 100%. You can EASILY get 150ATR on a 38% one, I junk 3-5 of those a day.
Also, besides the blocking of a shield, you get resists if you look for one... !

Re: I would like your opinions please...
How much are those +10 int +30% mana regen, 38% scepters going for at the vendors. I already raised hammer up to 70, but maybe I can respec back down to 38%.
