Yoda Saber Skills?
The power of the light saber over dark lightening bolts was twice demonstrated before Yoda fought Darth Sidious: Obiwan against Count Dooku and Mace Windu against Darth Sidious.

Also, Anakin established very strongly the idea that keeping one's light saber is a matter of keeping one's life!

In one fight sequence in the senate chambers, Yoda and Sidious were face to face on a single delegation platform. Sidious without light saber; Yoda with light saber.

Of all Jedi, Yoda should have known the value of keeping his light saber AND had the ability to hold onto it against what was surely the emperor's only defense. Yet, with a single lightening bolt Sidious knocks Yoda's saber away, avoiding certain defeat at the green 800 year old Jedi Master's hand. This is not plausible, is it? Can anyone explain how this can make sense in the Star Wars Universe?

Hmm, I see what you're saying. I couldn't decide which Master was the strongest, Yoda or Palpatine?

Of course, as it played out, the emperor was stronger. Proof of this is twofold: He stayed in power by keeping the higher ground, forcing Yoda to ultimately retreat; Yoda told Bail Organa he had failed against the emperor.

This is not my point though. My point is that given the history of using the lightening bolts, the importance of holding onto the lightsaber, along with Yoda's knowledge of these things and strength in the force, it is internally INCONSISTENT for Yoda to have the emperor "dead to rights" caught without his lightsaber only a few feet away, only to have his own light saber so easily taken from him.

Also, what was Yoda thinking walking into the emperor's chamber without his lightsaber drawn! He was immediately knocked unconscious, deservedly so, and the emperor could have killed him there and then. Perhaps I am answering my own question by suggesting the emperor was SO much more powerful than Yoda that he was toying with him all along. But this was clearly not the case with Sidious and Mace Windu. Therefore, my position is this fight sequence is not internally consistent within the Star Wars universe.

Another question. Why didn't Yoda pair up with Obiwan against Sidious? This had become the long standing Jedi tactic against the Sith (Qui Con & Obiwan against Darth Maul and twice Obiwan and Anakin against Darth Tyrannus)

Wasn't Obi-Wan off-planet by this point and going after Anakin?

As for your other point. To me the whole scene and set-up seemed "wrong".

Yoda and Obiwan planned to separately go after each one, whereas they could have planned to confront Palpatine and Skywalker together.

The scene showed the depth of Palpatine's evil. He giggled with joy at the destruction he caused in the Senate chamber and having got the high ground over Yoda.

I watched this again yesterday. I still find the fact that Yoda went alone to Palpatine a bit silly. Great action scenes though.
