WonderingIs this a blessing or a curse? Why am I here? What is my purpose here, other than to protect the light? All those questions and more floated in Ryu's mind as he approached the council palace, flying above the broken buildings that he had fought to protect during his years here. Once he got above the land surrounding the doors, he landed on his shoes softly, not making any noise. He took his sword, sheath and all, and put it next to the door. Since this was a good city, there was no chance of getting it stolen. He then walked in, and looked around, searching for someone to talk to. Hopefully, they would talk first, because he didn't want to.
“If I ever get my hands around his neck, I’ll kill him.”
Crystal’s back hurt. Crystal’s arms hurt. Crystal’s stomach hurt and felt as if it would burst open at any moment. The baby seemed to be moving continuously, almost as if Eytan was pacing back and forth against her backbone. Nausea seemed to gather in her stomach at each moment and for some reason, she couldn’t sit still, a pad of paper in one hand a pen in the other. A secretary raced around with fearful eyes, not quite understanding the Elder’s erratic state and need for grapes and fresh vanilla ice cream, staying as far away as she could from the pregnant woman. Crystal gazed down at her stomach as the baby seemed to be performing acrobatics and worried, wondering why there was so much movement. Could something be wrong with him? Was that why she felt like her body was ready to give up and fall to pieces? Walking out into the hallway, she continued to pace back and forth, barefooted because it hurt even to wear the soft leather shoes she’d traded in for her stiletto heels.
“Has the military ordered new supplies for the month yet? I heard that a bunch of recruits just came in so they’ll need uniforms-- Charlotte? Charlotte honestly, I’m not going to throw up anymore, I promise.” Crystal glanced around the main lobby, her hair long and flowing down her shoulders in ribbons of copper against auburn locks. Her slim frame had gained a significant amount of weight in the past six months, her stomach swollen and extended forward in the advanced stages of pregnancy. The worry that was flowing through her was derived from the fact that her estimation of a normal human pregnancy should have ended at nine months. By her calculations, she had been with child only six months and her body was giving all the signs of a full term pregnancy three months early. A horrifying though drifted over her for a second - twins. Two fox kit-human-demon mixes? Crystal’s eyes went wide and the baby thumped once as if to say,“No. Only one. One very big one.” The Elder groaned softly and began to search for a glass of water.
Waddling almost, a far cry from her natural long limbed grace, Crystal was a bit embarrassed to find another person in the lobby to see her in all of her full-blown-grouchy-pregnant-woman glory. Approaching the boy, a bit eccentric looking to say the least, but still young and what she took to be shy, she smiled, a bit tired but still kind. “Is there something I can help you with, sir?”

Re: Wondering
(Sorry that it's taken so long, I just thought that the length I'm going to use would be an issue.)
"I was just wondering if I could help the rebuilding around here.." He replied quietly. His natrual insight lead him to saying more, "Do you need any help for the pain?" Even though she had not yet responded, in his right hand a small sphere of greenish light formed, though he did not use it yet.
Re: Wondering
[That's fine.. I've been in a bit of a slump myself lately!]
Crystal looked defensive for only a moment as she gazed at the green sphere. What was it about these occurrences that made her feel so strange? It wasn’t as if she hadn’t seen healing magic before, but something inside always made her coil up and push away from the thought. The Elder smiled again, wiping the distraught look off of her face almost before it had finished forming. “I appreciate the offer but I must admit I don’t know if it would agree with this child. He’s.. Not exactly your run of the mill baby. I think that for now, I’ll just suffer through it. Pain keeps reminding me that I’m alive and kicking even when I feel entirely exhausted.” The idea of rebuilding the city perked her up just a little though, it wasn’t every day that someone offered to help out in the process and she was more than thankful he’d asked.
“Well, there should be a crew starting on the renovation of the Library any day now, they’re scheduled to start on the eighteenth, I believe.” Crystal looked toward the ground for a moment before raising her eyes to Ryu with a questioning look. “Your desire to rebuild is kind, but I have a feeling that’s not the only reason you’re here. My office is open if you need to talk about anything at all.” The Elder knew the conflicted feelings that many people in this city still had, the wondering, the waiting, the wishing that things could be different. She felt it herself and even though life in the city was smoothing out again, she sometimes prayed for a world where the war had never happened. The knowledge that others with malicious intent had been in this city, destroying what others had worked for was haunting.

Re: Wondering
"Do the elders have any idea what sends us here?" He asked, letting the question he had wondered for two of the three years he had been here out. Even more secretly, he wished to see into the old world, to see if his brother was still there. The green light faded quickly as the energy returned to him.
Re: Wondering
Crystal paused as the question was asked, holding on to the door frame of her office. Turning back to the boy she shook her head slightly then spoke, “Let’s sit down in here and I’ll try to explain as much as I know.” The heavily pregnant Elder waddled into her office and seated herself as delicately as possible in her high backed chair, her feet immediately going up on an ottoman hidden underneath the cherry wood desk. As her toes breathed a sigh of relief, Crystal picked up a feather topped quill pen and began to tap it against a paper pad on her desk. She’d given many this speech before, and yet, each time, she never felt like she could say enough about these second lives they’d all been granted. Sure, she was thankful for hers despite the hardships she had weathered, but she tried not to ask why she was here. It was as if asking made it seem a little less real, something not entirely explainable had a way of doing that.
“I was the first to arrive in this world after dying and I first assumed that this was the epitome of ‘hell’ as described by my religion in my first life. I was utterly alone. There were no cities as you see now, just miles and miles of landscape that stretched on as far as I could see. I’ve lived in this place for three centuries now and still the answer of why hasn’t come to me. Psychics can’t see it, the Council has tried, we’ve all tried to understand the reason that we were put here but none of us can. The only assumption I have is that we were all meant for something more when we passed on into this world and that is how I comfort myself.”
