Women in Warcraft
Hello, everyone! It's been awhile, but something has been bugging me. OK, I'm a 38 yr old mom who is addicted to World of Warcraft, Echo is lvl 53. I recently joined a guild that is mostly made up of guys 14 -25. I know, what am I doing with a bunch of young guys, but we play well together, lol. Out of 50 players in our guild there were only 2 females, myself and one other, who was unable to talk on Vent due to not having a mike, but anyway, where have all the girls gone? The few women I have been friends with in the last year have hit 60 already. And it seems when I do see another female character it is a guy behind it. The guys in my guild were like "find more girls!" and I had to laugh, because like I said..the women I know are mostly stay at home moms. Just wondering..

Re: Women in Warcraft
Our guild isn't that much better. Of our 40+ raiding members, only 5 are "confirmed" female...the most prominent of which is my wife who is guild leader (lovingly dubbed "guild mom"). At one time, we actually had 8. However, this number was affected by the philandering of the former guild leader and a couple of the members. Now that "mom" runs the guild, such drama has been reduced to a minimum. The people who remain are here to play...and they do a fine job. Some of them even beat the "boys" in the damage/healing charts...and kick their butt in duels. :lol

Re: Women in Warcraft
I'm really a girl in real life (and Jarren's met me in person, so he knows it's true *wave*). Well, okay, I'm fudging a little bit. I'm a 48 year old woman....

I play pretty regularly and have since the game came out, though no level 60s yet. My main is 39 and I'm hoping to get my first mount this weekend! :pink

Anyway, back to the point of the thread, I've been surprised to meet quite a few other middle aged women out there in my wanderings. Problem is, the young guys are usually the ones who do the most talking, so you get a feeling like aren't any other women; but we are out there!

It sometimes seems like looking for a needle in a haystack to find other female gamers. There are a couple in the guild I'm in, some left recently, some new ones joined. I notice most don't speak on Teamspeak much.

I have branched out a bit from my guild and run ZG with an Oceanic alliance group. It's a blast listening to them on TS and most of the females whisper to each other swooning over thier accent. lol. I've noticed more and more females coming over to run with us when we have openings, and most have mentioned that they were told to give it a try because they could listen to them talk.

Re: Women in Warcraft
There are about 6-7 women in the guild I'm currently in. We have an alliance with another guild so I think we have at least 10 all together. When we're all on Vent/TS the guys usually talk it up while the ladies sit back and listen. Some of my RL girlfriends and I usually whisper each other during some of the conversations as well - I think the guys sometimes forget there are women around that can hear them - LOL.
I think everyone appreciates having female gamers in the guild though. We're definitely able to put the smack-down on the boys when things get out of hand... ;)
Are there any other Darkspear-ladies out there??

Lots of girls in my guild and I have met several ladies my age ("older" shall we say?:lol ) who play, or who partner up with their husbands.

I am also on a PVE server and I find that there are more women there and on RP servers than PvP.

Re: Women in Warcraft
That makes a lot of sense. I do encounter quite a few other women but I play only on RP and PVE servers. Home is Feathermoon, which is RP.

I'd be lost in PVP...or more likely...I'd be dead.:duel

Re: Women in Warcraft
I found the guilds we were in on the Rp server was 1/3 to 1/2 women. Lots and lots of couples in the guilds. When we moved to an RP/PVP server, the population of RL women plummeted. We were in this huge guild (120+ members)that had only 3 or 4 women in it tops.

Read a study that stated that most women play on the RP servers for the social aspect and they a more mature player base.

Re: Women in Warcraft

In my large Horde raiding guild (we took down Nefarian last week, yay!), out of our 50-60 active members... there are 3 females total, only two of which have mics, and none of us talk that much. It's kinda sad. My alt is in an Alliance raiding guild; they seem to have more females, more like 5-7.

We just had a female druid hit High Warlord rank this week, a first for a real-life female on our server. Very glad for her.

Very few females on Horde side on my server; kinda sad, but then again I generally get along with males better.

That's because many women don't like playing what they consider non-pretty races. I know, I know, some people think the trolls are hot. I play a troll myself, but I still don't like that she runs like she's wearing diving flippers. There will be a lot more women playing horde when the blood elf expansion comes out. I can guarantee it.

Re: Women in Warcraft
There's probably some truth to that...I don't play undead because of the way they look. I hate the bones sticking out. But more than that, I hate the rude way the undead NPCs greet my character when I interact with them.

I don't generally play Orcs or Trolls because I hate the lewd look/text when the very first quest NPC 'looks over' the female Orc/Troll. It's just the first one, but it just kinda puts me off.

My favorite Horde race is Tauren, male or female. They aren't hot, but they are tough!

All that said, my main and all of the alts I play most are Alliance and although the dwarves have the best personality (imho), I have three female humans (inlcuding my main), four female night elves and ONE female dwarf. Much as it shames me to admit it, that's why I started out this post saying "there's probably some truth to that".

Re: Women in Warcraft
:lol I chose undead for my horde character because they are the only ones I could stand, being at least human-ish. This is my first MMOG and my husband and his friends were all horde and they needed a priest. :lol I have tried other horde females since then. I enjoy playing Tauren also, but not as much as undead.

Conversely, I absolutly despise NE characters on the alliance side for the "lewd" factor, and agree that dwarven toons have the greatest personality. And Gnome females squeak when they're hit. (My human paladin character was the first character I ever created in the game and was patterned after my D&D character from highschool.)

Re: Women in Warcraft
I'm wondering what effect the addition of the Blood Elves will do to the Horde Population if one considers the "pretty" factor.

Re: Women in Warcraft
I would expect that you will see the horde to alliance ration dramatically change. On most PVE servers, it was my understanding that the horde has greatly outnumbered the alliance. I am not sure about the PVP or the RP servers. I have also always heard that the horde seemed to be more "adult" although that is just speculation and personal opinion. So I would anticipate more women playing horde and more younger players perhaps, for the "Legolas" factor, as I have heard it put before.

I like the nightelves, because they are elves, but agree that the dance and so forth is a little on the "lewd" side. Plus, the emote speech seemed so much like a stereotypical "dumb blonde". I so wanted to like my dwarf better, but she always seemed so slow and clutzy. As for the horde, it wasn't just how they look, but the way they move as well, like deFafnyr said. I like the Tauren the best and think that they may be the most noble at heart in the whole game, but the movements just seemed so slow and clumsy I just couldn't get into it.

Re: Women in Warcraft
My main server is PvE and actually, the alliance outnumber the horde. I get the impression it is like that on most PvE servers. Also, my impression is that most women gravitate toward Alliance, unless they join after their husbands/S.O.'s who already have a character on Horde.

I truly think that women try to play with characters they can identify with in some way. Different women identify with different characters, so that is why there is a disparity between the races we play in WoW.

The disparity seems to be in which servers we play on I have played on all kinds of server except RPPVP. I met the most female players on the PvE and RP servers. On the PvP servers, I found that other players found it surprising that I was female. Other female players I met often said, "Wow! Another girl who plays!" I got the impression that girl players on the server were few and far between.

And LOL at the new "pretty" race for horde side. I am interested to see how the horde-to-alliance ratio changes, too.
