I will have all short range debt, otherwise known as credit cards............paid off this year. Mortages, now that is a totally different conversation I think. I can't see my way clear to get them paid off.
Happy to say....Thanks to Terry's Planner...
We have no credit cards open, or running any "keep-up" fees, etc.
We got thru an entire length of "unemployment" in PA., and still managed to place $10 to $25 per check in credit union.
Last kiddo in process of finding how she plans to spend the next years w/o electing to go to college - so we likely are not totally "safe".....but, happily NOT starving, freezing, or leaving our senses. LOL
Keep plugging along, and stay faithful to it - his system Works.

We have been debt free
but purchases a much needed vehicle. No we didn't need brand new and didn't buy brand new. But anywho, we owe $5000, which we could could pay off now but have a CD rate earning more than interest rate on the loan.
Re: We have been debt free
We're at a point where I'm better off with the money in the bank than paying anything less off. My school loan is locked in at under 4% and DH is in grad school. We want to do a number of improvements on our house and if we can do all or most without a loan of any sorts I'll consider ourselves very lucky. The first project is both bathrooms and some tree trimming/removal, we have the money for that project but next year we plan on new windows and siding...although I know we will see some savings on utility bills by getting the new windows. The last project will be the landscaping, which we will be able to do most of ourselves and we should be able to pay for that without a problem as well. So that is our 3 year plan for spending.

Debt free
Have been able to pay off all credit cards this year. just have medical and mortgage to pay each month. No other long term debts right now.
when will you be debt free?
I will never be debt free, unless I find a money tree, or that Publisher's Clearing House van ever shows up. (I've been sending that stuff in for YEARS...it's MY turn...!!!) In reality, I will always have a mortgage, and some degree of medical bills. I am proud to say that at the moment, I do not have ANY credit cards, although my bank is telling me, getting a secured card, would greatly improve my credit rating, and subsequently, lower my interest rate on my mortgage.
Re: when will you be debt free?
It is going to take a long time I expect to get out of my mess but I have found that if you pay your credit card more than one time (using the same amount that you were going to pay anyway) in the month it saves a lot of interest. Such as I have one that I pay $200 per month but I pay $100.00 on the 15th of the month & $100.00 more on the 30th of the month.
Re: when will you be debt free?
We have only 2 years of property tax $1500. And $1500. left on our pickup and everything will be paid but our $20,000 left on our house. But then we are planning to move to Idaho and build a home. So probably will be indebt for a long time.

Re: When do you expect to be Debt Free?
At present, we only owe a truck payment each month. We pay extra on the principal, and I estimate that in 2 years we will be free and clear on the truck. Will probably need to replace my 12 year old car by then, and it will be hard to buy used, since the only fuss I make is wanting to have a newer car since I live in a scary, big city and need reliable transportation.
