What I Wish Others Knew....
"Not being able to speak...is not the same as not having anything to say."

Sterling is non-verbal and it breaks my heart when people basically treat him as a non-person. He has feelings, he has likes/dislikes, he can have fun - just like any other kid. His receptive skills are amazing - he understands every single word we say. It drives me crazy when he doesn't get treated as a real kid who has thoughts of his own. :(

Ya, and when they get frustrated because they cannot speak,
they get called a brat. The worst part of it is if they did not
act like this they wouldn't have a disorder.
