War Efforts?
OK, so what's the point? This is what I understand thus far. For every server, both the Alliance and the Horde must first gather X amount of several supplies. Once the amount is reached by both factions, 2 raid instances (one 20man and one 40man) will be open on that server. Somewhere along the way while turning in your supplies you earn faction with whichever city you do your turn ins at.

OK. So I think that's the jist of it all. But what good is the faction that I'm working up? From what I get, it helps with the costs of purchases and repairs made in that city and maybe I can get a cross faction mount. Am I missing something, or is that it?

No, that is pretty much it. The casual gamer is to work hard gathering all of this stuff so, that they get crappy rewards all so the raid guilds can go and run the new content. From what I understand the next step once all the supplies are in is to activate some sceptor that will open the gate and thus open the two new raid dungeons. I am also hearing that this is a test to see how world events (server wide events) are received.

I turned in a few things, but it seems to be much more profitable to sell what you have in the AH, due to the inflated prices of these items. At least the prices are inflated on my server.

The first server to complete step one is Medivh.

I would not necessarily say that merely the casual players are funding the effort. Many players from raid guilds are contributing as much materials, if not more so, than the average donation from a casual player. It is a serverwide effort.

Besides, doesn't opening the gate also require the completion of a quest that involves finishing a BWL raid in a specific amount of time? I think the raid guilds will have their hands full...

Unfortunately, much like in RL someone is always out there trying to make a profit on a war. AH prices for materials are outrageous...and I can barely find any mineral veins when I run my harvesting routes. :(

well I got some wool bandages together and out of the junk I got in return for the turn in was a blue item: Black Velvet Robe. Granted it's a lvl 21 robe, but starting price on it in the AH is around 25g. Not too bad, and it looks dead sexy. Wish my alts were on the same server as my main.

I think that one of my BF's character's received that same robe from somewhere. He sent it to my preist as she is the one that wears cloth. Now, I want to get it to my Alliance preist as she could actually wear it, but would have to get a level 10 to Gadget or Booty Bay late at night to do that. On my server the Alliance out number the Horde like 4 to 1. So, the things my Alliance character can turn in, they don't need any more. Too bad you can't send mail accross faction.

To send things across factions, use the cross factions auction houses and just have someone one the other side ready to catch the auction. put said item up for sale in Gadgetzan, and have a friend on the other faction buy it immediately for 1copper.

As far as the war efforts go tho, it seems that there's a problem with the lean wolf steaks we're supposed to turn in. the recipe is way more common on the alliance side and theres only 1 merchant that roams desolace with a limited supply (one) of the recipe for the horde to pick up. good thinking Blizzard.

Yes, why make it all easy. I find it interesting that horde can turn in Peacebloom, but Alliance has to turn in Arthras Tears. I haven't even seen that to harvest it.

The war effort, in essence, is a good idea... In practice it's pretty painful.

The Server, as a whole needs to hand in 3.5 MILLION units of supplies to open the gates.

Sadly, for alliance, you need, believe either 400,000 or 800,000 linen bandages. Do you have any concept of just how much farming that is.

There's a spawn point in Westfall where Defias Trappers insta-spawn once the camp is cleared. I managed 300 Linen in just under an hour on a 42 Paladin. Let's assume a well-geared level 60 could manage 500 Linen an hour, just for the sake of humour.

If three level 60's were to take it upon themselves to farm that spot constantly in 8 hour shifts around the clock, it would take them 1600 hours, or 66.66 DAYS. (assuming it's 800,000 bandages)

That's a little silly, don't ya think?

I thought it was a little silly asking for that much thorium. Sure lets just turn over one of the most expensive and highly used bars for upper level characters. Goodbye Archanite Drangonling. Wool is even that much harder to farm. Guess they wanted to make the envet last a while and not take a few days to complete. Makes me wonder how in the heck Medivh has completed it already.

Re: War Efforts?
Arthras Tears you can find every now and then in Felwood. That's a pretty good zone for a lot of the higher end weeds.

I just harvested a bunch of wool the other night in the Barrens near Camp T in all the lil piggy camps. The mobs are lvls 16-18ish so one smite takes them down easy. Newbs were getting a lil annoyed, but I was also calling in general chat that I'd also buy the wool from who ever else in zone, so I think they understood what I was trying to do, not just blasting their camps. Then give away all the green items you can and they don't mind you so much

Our server the alliance are way ahead. I think last I looked they were over 60% complete with all the supplies and the horde were just coming up on 40%. kind of a nice place to dump skill ups if you're working on cooking, first aid, etc.
