Unfortunate Event: A message was deleted
Hi guys.

I have always been so idealistic about this board. This is a place where you can come to say whatever the hell you want without the fear of censorship or reprisal. The concept of free speech is so important to me. I would do anything to defend it.

However, I think I have found my limit. For the first time ever in this board’s history, I used the delete function to delete a guest’s entry. I thought about it long and hard before I did it. When I created this board, I never planned to use the delete function. I wanted you to use this forum to express all your feelings and thoughts on not only Apolo, but whatever.

Unfortunately this new board member posted some racist and sexist comments that literally had no merit or value of any sort. Though I believe this, there is also the little voice in the back of my head that says, “it was freedom to speak, no matter how inane.” I could have left it up and let you all dog pile the guest with your condemnation. I am certain you would have. But I made a decision. That is that. :|

To the new board member that I deleted, I am sorry. But I feel you only put your venom out there to get a rise out of people.

Still, I do not want to use the delete ever again. How do all of you feel about this? I know you don’t visit the Dark Blades Top Secret Message Board to talk civics, but maybe you should. I would really like to know what you think.

Thank you again for your continued support of this board.

I didn't see the post you are talking about, Velma, but I have a pretty good idea what it contained. With so much obscene and threatening posts being plastered all over Apolo's fansites, it's a welcome change to see them being deleted and I wish the posters could just be banned in some way from their stupid, filthy posting. I am so sick of reading the death threats and obscenity that these people are spewing. It's not doing their country's image any good if they even care about that. They are sad pathetic people.

Thank you Velma for at least trying to give us a place to just have fun and not have to put up with stupidity.

I am indeed with Velma 100% on this. I saw the post too, and not to say all posts here have to have some redeeming quality or merit, but this person was posting just to anger and offend people. we still want people to feel free to speak their minds, but such degrading and hate-filled remarks will not be stood for. as Velma said, we have never had this problem in the past, and we don't anticipate it happening again in the future. to everyone else out there, we still love you, and we welcome you to share your thoughts with us.

I agree!
I'm with you ladies on this. A post must be pretty offensive to get deleted on THIS site, LOL! It's one thing to allow people to feel free to express themselves sexually, or whatever. It's another thing altogether for someone to post hate mail. In extreme cases, I do not object to your using the delete button.
