Today.....
I'll tell you about today, which has been a pretty good day really.
I took my son shopping as he needed clothes. He hates to clothes shop so of course he had to throw a little fit before we left but once that was over with we were on our way. The plan was Toys R Us where they were having a clothing sale , Dillards, where I happened to have a gift certificate and of course they were having a sale, and then the finale of the game store to get a video game.
On the way he told me, "I don't want to go to Dillards. I only buy clothes at Walmart" to which I replies, "What, are you Rain Man?" (Ok, so I sort of knew he wouldn't get it.)
Anyway, he didn't answer so I said, "Oh, that's right, Rain Man shops at K-Mart. Silly me."
"I know K-Mart. No K-Mart. I only buy clothes at WalMart."
OK, so we worked through that one and got to Toys R Us but it sort of fell apart some after that.
At Dillards he opted to act like an animal and crawl barking through the store. When I finally got him to stop he just continued to make weird noises and randomly roll on the floor the entire time. Of course, people were staring and snickering at the boy who was too big to be making weird noises and rolling on the floor as I looked at clothes and generally ignored the behavior. All in all, it went well and I've become quite resiliant to the stares and snickers.
Next stop was the game store where bought "Charlie and the Chocolate Factor" for his gamecube and now he is up in his room playing and probably will be for hours and you know what, I plan on letting him
And, that is a (good) day in the life of autism.

Living with these changes (oh no)
