Re: Thrill Ride Short Story {G}
This is my short story of my wonderful first thrill ride. First of all my name is Kelly and I’m 18 years old. All my life I have been dreaming of doing one thing: Riding in a Barrel racing competition. Everyone thought it was the most craziest, wackiest dream ever! Especially since I was horseless. My story begins one afternoon, I was walking home from school with my only friend, Jessica. “Kelly?” She asked, “Could we just quickly zip into the post office? I need to pick up something for mom.” So I agreed. I hadn’t got anything else to do besides muck out my sister, Allison’s horse’s stall. Allison, my sister as I already said, is spoiled rotten! Even though she is only 2 years younger then I she has already competed in 10 western pleasure classes, 2 cutting and 5 gymkhana games! Plus she has two of her own lovely quarter horses. If Allison wanted to go to the Olympics- my mom would let her. If she wanted to get a new saddle- my mom would let her. It just wasn’t fair! Anyway Jessica and I went in. “I’ll just wait out here,” I whispered. I walked over to a comfy looking bench and sat down when something caught my eye. I stood up to go see what it was. A lady in jeans and a baggy sweatshirt with a hat was posting up signs on a bulletin board. I waited for her to leave and then examined them. I didn’t attend on seeing anything but I looked anyway. I used to always look on the boards for clinics on Barrel racing, horses and part- time jobs. I saw an add for a babysitter, an add for lawn service and then there I saw it. “Flash: 13 year old, Quarter Horse mare. Just 15 hands high. Will do Barrel Racing, Roping or Pole Bending. Call 772- 3456.” I murmured. She sounded perfect. “I’m ready to go know, Kelly” Jessica said, coming up.

Re: Thrill Ride Short Story {G}
“Ok” “Hey what are ya looking at?” My face turned red. Even Jessica thinks me the klutz will never be able to accomplish anything. “Oh nothing,” I quickly said, grabbing the sheet off the wall and tossing it into my bag. Jessica just shrugged and we continued to walk. I waved then ran up the driveway of my farmhouse and dashed inside up to my room. I saw Allison and Mom sitting at the table overflowed in dance outfits and new equipment she had “needed” for Blaze and Dancer- her horses. They were laughing. I sighed. Mom and Allison had always been very close. Dad and I were close too, but then one day Dad left unexpectedly. I choke back tears. He had been my hero. I sighed again then hurried to my room before Mom asked me where I’d been. In my room I took at the add. I hadn’t noticed before the price and I gulped. She was over 600! Oh my goodness! How was I too raise that much money. I took out my piggybank. In it came out exactly 408 dollars and 52 cents. Mom would never pay that. Especially for me. I already had a horse. I snickered. Yeah right! An old nag. Molly- my thirty year old retired mare was munching grass happily and slowly. She wasn’t rideable and when she had been a walk and a trot was all she could handle. I glanced at Blaze and Dancer in the next paddock. They were trotting around with their noses in the air, snorting and bucking playfully. Dancer was six and Blaze was ten. I just sat there scowling. *** Next day I decided to go see Flash. I also decided not to tell anyone. Like I could tell anyone. All the rich, pretty girls in my class had fancy horses of their own and some didn’t even like horses and stuck to cheerleading. I walked down Main street and turned on to Queen and then left at Pine. I saw a big green barn with paddocks full of horses. I walked up the drive. A man with a plaid shirt was sweeping the halls of the big barn. “Excuse me. I’m Kelly Clarke and I’m interested in buying Flash- the pony” I timidly told him. Kelly, I told myself, You’re LOOKING! You don’t even have enough money. “Flash eh? She’s quite the sweetheart,” the man laughed. “She’s over in that paddock to the right, behind the shed. You can go take a peak if you like. I’ll be over in a sec!” So I went over and there she was. Flash was the prettiest horse I had ever seen! She had big brown eyes and a little star on her forehead. She looked up. “Hi Flash” I cooed. Flash slowly walked over and put her head in my out stretched palm. “She likes you,” a voice said which made me jump. It was the man. I smiled. “Woody,” he said. “Hello” I replied, not taking my eyes off Flash. “Her saddle is in the barn” Surprised at this. I did as he said and groomed her and tacked her up. I mounted up. At first Flash felt fast and too much horse for me. “Whoa Girl” I called, and just like that she stopped. “Try a little canter!” Woody called. “Ok” I grinned and urged her on. I felt free. Oh it felt good! Better then it ever had!

After a little while, I hopped off and groomed her. “You looked good on her,” Woody said suddenly, coming up. “Thhankyou, Ssir!” I sputtered. “Why don’t ya take her?” He asked. “I, I don’t have enough money..” I whispered, redness coming up my cheeks. “All I have is 400 dollars and an old nag.” Woody leaned forward. “An old nag?” He asked, laughing. I nodded and grinned. So Woody agreed and he took the 400 dollars and Molly. Now I was pleased Molly had a good home and I now had the Horse of my dreams. The only problem was…mom! *** “KELLY! KELLY CLARKE!” A voice yelled. I rushed down. “Yes, mom?” I asked. She pointed to Flash who was in Molly’s old stall with a stern look upon her face. “This is Flash…” I took a deep breathe and explained right down to where I wanted to compete and how Allison was getting all the attention. There was a long silence. “Oh, I’m so sorry. I should of known! So terrible of me” She cried. “No, Mom. It's okay. I have been jealous.” She and I had a long mother-daughter talk. *** “And we now have the results of the young woman Barrel Racing Competition. In 3rd place we have….” I held my breathe. There Flash and I were, in the ring after competing a wonderful barrel racing round only one month later. I smiled and looked out into the audience. There was Jessica and another girl waving, Allison gave me a thumbs up and Mom was crying. “In first position we have….Kelly Clarke on Flashing Dream! Congratulations Kelly! Nice Job!” the announcer came back! Oh my gosh! I had done it. I jumped off and hugged Flash and mom, Allison and Jessica. Woody grinned at me. It had been the best ride ever! The best thrill ride!
THE END!

I love!

All insects sing tonight

The coldest sound

I'd send God's grace tonight

Could it be found?
