Simple Survival (Crystal)

Kentaro's Manor

A lavish estate that overlooked the Genil River. The structure, constructed of black marble, was Japanese by design. The traditional roofs were visible even outside of the city walls. Four stories and full of various rooms. Most were servant's quarters, but the entire west wing was Kentaro's. It housed his bedroom and various other rooms, including a blacksmith that made him elegant swords. Most were used within the walls of his temple.

Servants were always buzzing around on every floor, doing random tasks, but always with purpose. Former geishas and maids from Japan. All finding their way to this place after death, but not wanting to do anything else with their afterlife. One would suspect that a man of such power and wealth, having all female servants, would perform lewd acts upon them, just because he could. But this was never the case. Kentaro provided them with a warm place to eat and sleep, and gave them purpose. There was never anything sexual between the elder and his servants.

However, the focus for the moment were the baths found behind the manor. Natural hot springs had been discovered along the river bank. Kentaro figured it was the perfect place to put his place of residence. The lands had been cleaned out, a nice, smooth rock pathway had been laid towards the baths. Other walkways went to various ponds where multiple species of fish were kept and well fed.

It was his personal garden. A place where he could find tranquility. The noises of the city were killed by the large manor, so the only sounds one could hear whilst bathing is was the rushing of the river, and the light splashing of one's self. Silence combined with the steaming, spring water, the soul could find peace, even if it were for a few mere moments.

And that was where Kentaro was. His hair was down, flowing around him in a black, wet mop. He layed down on the heated rocks, feeling the hot water all over his naked body. He kept one hand on his bare chest, the other behind his head. He stared up at the sky, his face emotionless as usual. He breathed in the steam, and the various scents around him.

His bath was divided by a bamboo curtain, separating the springs into two sections. One for men, the other for women. Everything was always so formal for him. It always had been. Here, he could be stress free. Here, he could finally relax. But still, he found himself to be rather nervous.

Crystal had yet to get in the water, and he wondered what was taking so long.

Re: Simple Survival (Crystal)
“You.. You want me to what?” The lovely Asian woman spoke quickly and several others fluttered around her, pulling her into a room where she was quickly disrobed and wrapped in a soft skein of fabric from below her arms to mid-thigh. She didn’t have time to be bashful or really notice that her stomach was no longer flat, but concave from not eating properly, before the group of servants once again ushered her out of the room to the outdoor bathing facility. The grounds of Kentaro’s house were beautiful and had always been that way, a little piece of paradise in the middle of a city that had once been the same. As they unwound the fabric, she grasped at it with her hands, her knees pressed together in a shaky fashion as she was publicly made nude. Though she had visited before, never had she been stripped down by a posse of silk covered maidens with a far Eastern charm and her cheeks were flushed bright red as she lowered herself into the hot water, the women nodding and urging her to do so. All else disappeared as she did so and she let out a moan of satisfaction, her limbs instantly losing their will to move or do much else at all.

She felt like curling up and sleeping in this little bed of warm rocks and soothing water and she evaluated what ever part of her body was saying. Her feet thanked her for finally not being enclosed in stilettos or high heels, her calves echoing their sentiment with small twangs of her muscles relaxing. Rubbing her foot against the stone beneath her, she let out a small laugh as it tickled her foot. She’d never quite mastered not being ticklish and even at her age, someone touching her ribs in the exact right way sent her into peals of laughter. The water cascaded over her entire body, her shoulders became instantly movable and her stiff neck felt 300 years younger. The thought made her laugh again. Three hundred whole years old. “And my mom told me I’d grow to hate my 40’s…” She murmured aloud and scooted down in the water so that only her nose stuck out above it and her long hair floated like a red halo above her.

The world sounded entire different underwater, muted and a bit scary from time to time. As water filled her ears, she experimented with what exactly she could make out happening around her. The sound of footsteps from wooden sandals with their unusual plat formed bottoms clicked and clacked as Kentaro’s ladies moved around the garden. She was startled as one of them appeared above her and poured a small cup full of what she figured to be soap into the water around her, a strong scent of exotic flowers rose up in the air pungently. Running water from the river rushed around her head, soothing her and causing her eyes to close. As she slid back up in the water, her eyes still shut, she stretched and put her folded arms behind her head as a pillow, the foam in the water covering the rest of her body. Her voice was thick and low in her throat as she forgot herself and where she was and spoke the only sentence that came to mind. “Mmm,” Crystal announced, “This must be Heaven.”

Every footstep was crystal clear, if you'd excuse the pun. He could hear her heartbeat, the muscle beating at a rapid rate from the embarrassment. He closed his eyes, dunking his head under water. It burned his face, but it was also one of cleanliness as well. From beneath the water's surface, he heard her enter the water, her body instantly loosening up.

As his head once again came into contact with the night air, he wiped the water from his eyes as sounds replaced the water in his ear. Black hair clung to his face, and he brushed it aside. With a deep breath, he laid back again, resting on one arm. His left hand, the free hand, began to run along his stomach and chest, making a light splashing sound as he moved fingertips along torso.

He looked behind his shoulder, seeing Crystal's silhouette on the bamboo. "Heaven? No. Heaven is laying in these waters, you and your lover resting upon each other. But you're halfway there." Red eyes moved back to the night sky as he stared at the surrounding stars.

A group of light, rainbow coloured clouds drifted overhead. A common phenomenon here, even when they first came. It was a helluva lot different then what they had grown to know. But in the past three centuries, they had made it their own. It was home. And no one wanted to change that.

Re: Simple Survival (Crystal)
“My.. Lover?” Guilt seized Crystal by the heart when the words gracefully slipped out of Kentaro’s lips. He had always been the dreamy speaker, his words well formed and hard hitting. When the Elder Council was bickering, Crystal yelling at Morrigan about her lack of professionalism, Nuki looking haunted and angry that Morri was getting lit into, Lumen laughing and shaking his head, Kro glaring at them all as if they were children, and the rest of them doing whatever came naturally, Kentaro had been the voice that gave them all a reason to listen. Never shouting, just merely stating a fact, and somehow they all would listen again. Now his soft words suggested the most fanciful notion, a lover.

Crystal had belong to one man in her lifetime, Cameron Dinaia, had died in his arms before their love was even given a chance to grow to full fledged, time tested devotion. But the spark that had started in their marriage was enough for her to never desire another man. Despite the fact that he was three hundred years in her past, she still felt as if she was his wife, well, she had. Her eyes were downcast as she didn’t answer, but instead, remembered. Remembered lips against hers and the way her body arched upward, begging for more even as she whispered, “No.. Please no.” She let out a gasp as memories flooded her body, wishing that the sound of the water and the peace then could have drowned them along with the aches from her muscles. Each river of water felt like hands, fingers, alive and prodding her skin until the sensation thoroughly scared here. She jumped up from the water, her hair clinging to her body, as several of the little ladies of Kentaro’s brought her a towel.

Crystal was shaking, but for the first time, her memories hadn’t brought back fear. What did she not want to remember about those days with the demon? Had her resolved been weakened entirely? Did she.. Did she love this creature? Is that why she sent no one to kill him, though a team of skilled fighters might have the upper advantage. She shook her head violently and her hair sprayed all around her, long and dark from the water that was in it. Soon, she was seated, her body still wracked with tremors. No. No it wasn’t possible. Crystal had merely cared about one of the souls trapped in that same body, there was no way she could love a demon, not something that could never love her back, not something that would bring a Goddess to her door in all of her fierce glory. She refused to let anything happen to Genil because of her past actions.

Re: Simple Survival (Crystal)
His words seemed to trouble her, but why? Why wouldn't she let him in? Hadn't they been friends for over three centuries? Hadn't they always confided in each other? Kentaro had fallen in love with her so long ago, almost two hundred years ago, but after such a time, the feelings died away. All that was left was just mutual respect, and a love that meant more then relationships and all that would entail.

Her fear drifted into his nostrils, causing him to sneer. Was there someone here that was causing her such feelings? No. He would've atleast heard them, yet alone caught their scent in his nostrils. As her footsteps were once again heard on the warm rocks surrounding the bath, he turned his crimson gaze to her. Her body was attractive, but it always had been. It wasn't something that he hadn't seen before, but seeing the water dripping off of her naked form, he couldn't help but think thoughts that made him blush.

As the towel was wrapped around her, and she sat down on the chair shaking, the Elder moved to the side of the bath, his eyes meeting hers. A light frown danced on his face. He wasn't pleased, anyone could tell that. A sigh escaped his lips as he reached for a nearby pack of cigarettes, lighting one up as he turned back to the night sky.

"What happened that changed you so?" he asked, a plume of smoke exiting his lips. "True, we've all grown a little darker, but yours is rather troublesome, old friend." He took another drag off of the smoke, turning his gaze back to her. "Why won't you talk to me?"

Re: Simple Survival (Crystal)
Crystal laughed it off or tried to, her shoulders curved and her posture less than perfect. “Words can’t be spoken about those times Kentaro, the past is better left that way.” Words couldn’t be spoken about what had happened because she knew he would come again, the creature with golden eyes and silken hair. She could almost feel him coming, almost as if he was near enough for her to feel the beat of his heart, yet so far away at the same time. The Elder shivered and felt ill, but the thought of him brought a sense of longing along with the fear. Could it be that she wanted him to come? Her eyes were troubled, but closed off. Her thoughts would have to stay her own for now. She couldn’t reveal Fedafyr to Kentaro unless she wanted a witch hunt to begin for a demon that could disappear all too easily. Her eyes grazed the ground as the ladies of Kentaro’s villa swept her into the building for another moment, only to put her back in the wrap around dress back on her body and rush her back out barefooted to meet their master.

“I wish not to know about the past, now, though. I want to know about the present. Kentaro, you’ve changed as well. Not just in your heart, but in your body…” Hadn’t they always told each other everything?

Always changing the subject, it would seem. Always going back to him. As she walked off, he held the cigarette off to the side, dipping his mouth underwater as he sighed. The bubbles rose up around his nose, tickling his skin lightly. As he brought his head out of the water, he took a deep breath, closing his eyes. As she came back out in full garb, he brought the cigarette back to wet lips, taking a long drag.

"If you must know the truth, I sold my soul for Genil. At the time, it seemed I had no other option." The smoke rolled out of his lips as he spoke, the water dripping off of his chin. "Fuilteach came to me, and offered me power for servitude. With the combined forces of Anarab and Nureese closing in, who was I to say no?"

He took another drag off of the smoke, flicking it away as it was almost to the filter anyway. Crimson eyes looked to her once again as he exhaled through his nostrils. "She came to me dressed in gore. It was a mixture of horrid and beautiful at the same time. She turned me into a lycan. I've been part wolf ever since."

His gaze moved back to the stars as he put his hands behind his head. How would she react? He didn't know. He would find out soon enough. There was a moment of uncomfortable silence, and it made him frown. "The gods have been very active lately. Something is in the making, and I don't like any of it..." His eyes closed as he breathed in the steam from the bath.

He would have to get out soon or turn into a prune.

Re: Simple Survival (Crystal)
Crystal’s eyes lingered on her feet, not wanting to embarrass herself by glancing into Kentaro’s water. They had all lost parts of themselves for Genil but she wondered if losing one’s ability to be human was worse than just that? She’d always considered herself lucky because humanity ran through her veins, yet, since being in this place she had learned that other kinds of beings cared for each other in much the same way she’d thought humans did exclusively. Demons loved each other in ways that defied even time itself and Goddesses could hold someone as dear as Crystal could herself. She couldn’t judge him for his actions, but the thought of transforming into something else terrified her, and she shuddered suddenly and looked Kentaro in the eye, lying through her teeth, “The wind is cold tonight, it’s chilling me just a little.”

The ground returned her gaze once again as she murmured softly, as if to herself, “And to think.. I’d once thought that nothing related to God existed.” Her eyes closed as she leaned back in the chair she’d been seated in and waited for Kentaro to finish his bath, comforted in knowing that he could at least relax for now. Her senses would always be on edge, however, and she would never again rest in the same way for very long.

Re: Simple Survival (Crystal)
"You lie." he sneered.

The stench of her fear floated into his nostrils after he told her the truth. In his moment of honesty, she tried to lie to him. It infuriated him. Were they not good friends? Were they not supposed to tell each other everything? What was so complicated with things now? Why was his open feelings greeted by nothing more then her defenses.

He stood up, getting out of the bath. Water dripped from his naked form, but he didn't care. As he walked past her, he stopped beside her, crimson eyes staring at his house. "You have no reason to fear me. I will always be your friend. You must forgive me for my outburst, but I cannot sit by and open myself to you while you just sit there and lie to me. I was under the impression that the time apart didn't destroy the trust that we used to have."

A woman clad in pink silk gave a towel to the man, and he wrapped it around his waist firmly. "I understand if you wish to leave." he merely said, walking off. His footsteps were hard on the rock below him, each step sending ripples throughout his body. Why did it upset him so that she was like this? Did he honestly believe that things would be as they once were?

It was a silly dream, but one that he clung to nonetheless.

A light sigh escaped his lips as he shook his head, walking into the house. The stairs were long, and he took his time, but it gave him time to think. Most importantly, it gave him time to cool down. His fingertips moved to the wall as he traced patterns up and down the walls. Red eyes closed as he reached the top of the stairs.

Slowly, he walked into his room, leaving the door open. A young woman held a glass of wine for him. He nodded a thanks to her as he took the glass in his hand. He smelled the liquid, stirring it around in his glass before he took a small sip. He then turned around, collapsing on his bed, the glass of wine held out, not a drop spilled. The tie in his towel came undone, but he didn't care.

There was too much on his mind to care what was going on with his clothing.

Re: Simple Survival (Crystal)
Her soul felt cold as he stalked away from her, reminding her of the ancient Greek statues of old, haughty airs and defensive stances. Crystal knew that she had hurt him, but to tell the truth would have caused a riot to destroy a “monster” and bring a demi-god along with the scent of Fedafyr’s blood. Her stomach ached as she followed behind him after clearing the mist of tears from her eyes, knowing instinctively that he had retreated to the only place where safety resided in all forms. Here, in his chambers, familiarity much have combined with comfort and her hopes were only that it could heal his injured pride. She simply couldn’t be angry at this man, not when she could remember the past so clearly.

Crystal’s feet were soft and bare against the stairs and she headed stubbornly to his room, her cheeks flushed from the exertion of being shamed and moving so quickly. Her strength wasn’t enough yet for her to pretend that it didn’t affect her and she waited outside the door as his maid left, her cheeks red. The Elder squared her shoulders and walked into the room, the gathered waist of her cotton dress swaying behind her. Her eyes were quiet as she merely walked to the bed and climbed on it, looking like a lost child in need of a bedtime story and a glass of water. Pressing her back against the headboard, she stayed silent as the mattresses moved only slightly with her weight. She didn’t speak, her words far too ineloquent to apologize, but merely sat inches away from Kentaro. With one graceful hand, long fingers and short nails, she stroked the stop of the other Elder’s head in a motion that expressed only love, only caring, and only friendship toward him.

He had spoken no dishonest words. She had lied, lied to many people, or at least avoided the truth. Was doing that just as hurtful as lying? With a smirk, though she tried to hide it, she leaned over the man’s form lying on the bed and grabbed one of the bed covers and pulled it to Kentaro’s waist. “You’re going to fall ill walking around like that. Or at the very least, a head cold.” Crystal Dinaia wasn’t the kind of woman to leave even though someone told her they’d understand if she did. The Elder had her ways of fixing situations if only people would have trust in her strength and now, for now, Kentaro would have to trust her on faith alone.

"It's not like I'll catch my death." he said, not hesitating as she pulled the sheet over his wast.

He sipped the wine again, sitting up. His hair was a mess behind him, but he could care less. It would be combed out later. As he swallowed hard, his crimson gaze met with hers. Why had she followed him? Her touch on his scalp sent shivers through him. His skin tightened some, goosebumps forming. He closed his eyes as she continued.

"I'm already dead." he said, his own attempt at a joke.

His free hand, moved to hers, bringing her arm down so his cheek rested in her palm. He brought his head to the side, kissing her open hand. He breathed in her scent, there was no fear this time. There was only sadness. He sighed, his eyes opening as he looked to her.

"I wish I could always protect you, but we both know that's impossible. Still, these old ears are much better then what they used to be. If you ever need me, call my name out. The wind will carry your voice to me." He took another sip of the wine, turning behind him to set the glass on the floor. With that distraction gone, he could now give his full attention to the elder sitting in his bed.

"I have always loved you. From the moment I saw you, there was something about you. You're my oldest and most valued friend. I wanted you for my bride, but I knew it would never be. So I lost those feelings for you. In no way does that mean that I would want to change our friendship for the world. Believe me. When you left, I was destroyed, but I had to hold my own for the city. I don't know why I'm telling you these things..."

He sighed, frustrated with himself. Why was he not able to get out what he wanted to say? He wanted to say a mixture of 'I love you.' and 'I'm sorry.' but he always had to make things so complicated. Perhaps she would understand, but he doubted it. "What I'm trying to say is... I don't know what I'm trying to say here. I just want you to be okay. I want to look in your eyes and see that old strength. That redheaded courage that built empires. This world needs you. Genil and the council need you." He paused for a brief second, looking away.

"I need you."

Re: Simple Survival (Crystal)
Crystal smiled softly as he spoke, knowing the things he said were true. She wished she could have opened her mouth to tell him that while she projected an image of strength, of someone that could be loved, there was no possibility of her completing one half of a relationship. In her heart, she knew that she could have never satisfied him in the way a wife should because her soul still belonged to her first love, and his image in her heart was far too strong to wash away. She wished she could have told him that her first marriage was full of harsh words and fights because she had held something higher than them at all costs and that, was herself. The selfish nature that flooded her body would have always kept her at an arm’s length from Kentaro, even if he had asked for her hand in marriage. Crystal could have never been his because she belonged only to herself and despite her struggles with it, the fact could never change unless forced by a catalyst not of her own making. Something, someday would force her to love another undyingly and unconditionally, but until then, her heart would remain her own possession.

Tears rose to her eyes because she felt as helpless as his voice sounded, of all the things she could control, her own happiness was not one of them. Her moods changed as quickly as the wind blew, one moment as high as the clouds themselves, then next, swooping the ground close enough to graze blades of grass that stuck up too high. “I need you too, Kentaro. I need the Council. Without these staples, I fear my life itself would end. I need this place, Genil.. This home. I have to heal my own war wounds, too deep to even bruise the surface. One day I will be strong enough to stand before Genil and tell them that they are under total protection.” Please, please just wait for time to give me the ability… her thoughts receded back into her mind. She loved him, just not as a woman should love a man. Crystal’s love for him was as a sister loves a brother, a bond so strong, from the moment it is forged, time itself cannot disintegrate it. A fight could never destroy this love, nor jealousy, nor grief. Time itself feared a bond such as this and stepped back from it, letting it live on forever.

"Hey..." he said, moving up to her.

"Come here..." he whispered. He brought her in close for a big hug as he held her. He rested his head on hers as he sighed. He didn't want her to start crying. That was the last thing he wanted. In the future, he would be sure to practice more foot in the mouth. It seemed the less he said, the better.

"I'm always going to be here for you." he said, kissing the top of her head. His fingertips moved through her hair, trying to calm her down. He pulled back some, moving his head down to meet her eye-to-eye. He held his hand out to her, his pinky extended. "I promise."

Ahhh yes, the pinky promise. It was something that she had shown him. He didn't know anything about it, but she taught him the ways of the pinky. It was an unbreakable vow, as if words weren't enough. Still, if it made her feel better, he would do it. "I'll do anything for you, Crystal. Don't be afraid to ask me for anything." He gave her a reassuring smile, cocking his head to the side.

Roughing up her hair some, his stomach growled. "Now shoo out of here so I can get dressed. You've gone three centuries not knowing what I look like without clothes. I'm going to continue to keep you guessing." He stuck his tongue out to her, still trying to lighten the mood between them.

Crystal’s pinky locked with his and she smiled as she remembered what a another child had told her when she was very little. “If you break the promise, you know we can never be friends again, right?” the little boy’s eyes had been so honest when he said that, as if the words were the solemn truth and perhaps, they were. The woman smiled softly and nodded, a silent promise that she would give him the same promise. Unfolding her long legs, she wobbled off the bed in a most unladylike fashion and hit the floor wondering where her shoes had gone. Glancing back at Kentaro, she grinned and stopped at the door for a mere moment, thinking about what he had said. In his moment of anger and sadness, had he realized he‘d strutted around as nude as when he‘d been born? “Kentaro…” She began as she backed out of the doorway, “Your bare behind is quite a sight to behold. What kind of training do you do with your soldiers to get it so… Firm? I think I need to do a few days of it myself?’ With a laugh, Crystal closed the door to his room and headed down the stairs before he could answer, the smell of hot food drawing her ravenous stomach toward it.

Re: Simple Survival (Crystal)
"Why you little..." he said with a laugh, leaping for the closing door.

He couldn't get there in time, so his feet skidded to a stop before he collided with the door. He walked back to his bed, picking up the glass of wine off of the floor. In one quick gulp, he downed the rest of the alcohol. Putting the glass aside, he then moved to his vast closet, trying to figure out what exactly he wanted to wear.

His finger rested on his chin for a moment, pondering on the clothing choices. Then his mind drifted to her words as he gazed at himself in the mirror. I am a rather fit devil, aren't I? Must be all of the running... He chuckled, shaking his head as he found a red, velvet robe.

Slipping it on and tying it up, he walked out of the bedroom, walking to the dining hall. The maids were laying down plates of food from various corners of the world. As Kentaro walked past Crystal, he bumped her with his hip, once again sticking his tongue out at her. Even in her most serious of moments, she could always find atleast some way to cause trouble for the man.

It was a strange quirk that sometimes drove him insane.

He pulled a chair out for her, waiting for her to take a seat as he breathed in the scents of the food. Everything smelled delicious. He would have to give praise to his chefs afterwards. For now, though, he would enjoy the company of friendship. Maybe things were on the right track afterall.

A bowl of broth was set in front of Crystal to begin with, clear with flake of vegetables and mushrooms in the bottom of it. Her stomach growled and complained because she hadn’t eaten more than a slide of bread that morning and now, the scent of various dishes was overwhelming. Lifting her spoon, she bought it to her lips, cold metal and warm liquid creating a sensation all together unusual. The taste of the broth flooded her mouth as she took the first sip of it and caused her mouth to spring to life, watering in all directions. It had been a while since the word “seasoning” or “flavor” had been a part of her meal and she just about cried at the taste of garlic and other unidentified extracts. It was absolutely delicious and calmed her considerably, yet whetted her appetite as the main dishes rolled in. Shrimp, an strange delicacy this far in from the ocean, were lined up on skewers pink and cooked to perfection along with onions and various vegetables. She tried to be dainty, to remember the schools her mother had sent her to, but as she ate, she found herself using her fingers in delight.

The Elder’s stomach filled fast, the size of it small from not eating enough when she should have. Finally, she finished what she could and sat back in her chair, a glass of Kentaro’s wine in her hand. She didn’t drink much of it, the effects of alcohol on her were usually pretty bad, even if she only drank a little. Sipping it, she treasured the pungent kick of aged grapes as the sky faded to black outside. Soon, sleep would demand that she returned to her home and fell into her linen sheets. A foreshadowing wind raced past the windows, howling in a way that terrified, yet intrigued Crystal. It was as if the wind itself had taken on a sense of human anguish in expectance of what would happen in the hours before the rising sun. Her eyes flashed toward Kentaro and she sipped the wine again, the darkness of the liquid staining her lips slightly. “Do you really wish to know what scares me?” Her answer might have been something he hadn’t expected.

As for Kentaro, chowder was placed before him. A simple sweet and spicy stew. It was his favorite and was gone in no time. The level of spice caught up with him as he set the bowl down. Quickly, he swallowed a glass of wine, the alcohol drowning out the burning in his mouth.

From there, it was all free form. He watched Crystal eat for awhile, smirking to himself as he pulled out a pair of chopsticks. He began picking at random things, and popping them in his mouth. He watched her actions, being glad that he wasn't the only savage at the table tonight.

As she filled up quickly, the other elder was far from finished. Red eyes moved to her as she sipped her wine. He smirked again, continuing to stuff his face. However, the words from his friend's mouth made him almost choke. He raised a finger, bringing the glass of wine to his mouth as he sipped slowly and swallowed hard.

"Yes, I would."

Re: Simple Survival (Crystal)
“A complete loss of control of my own destiny terrifies me. The inability to make decisions that will actually effect the end scares me beyond all belief. These fears that make me tremble now are nothing compared to the true end, to death. They’re really very trivial, this fox-demon and his haunted counterpart in his soul that haunt me to my very core. They must be…” Crystal had stood from the table and was looking out the window into the darkness, wine in hand as she spoke. Her voice was level and stronger than it had been in a long time. She expected to still have psychotic spikes every now and again, but at least now she knew exactly what she was experiencing when they happened. Being isolated from the world and terrified from day to day had dehumanized her and now her contact with others was bringing a bit of humanity back into her. Her dress moved around her knees softly as she began to pace again.

“They’re so damned beautiful Kentaro, the pair of them. The magician and his evil host.” Eyes shining and reflecting the stars outside, she tried not to get carried away in fairytales and dreams. She tried to remember that Fedafyr had kept her a prisoner for two years of her life in a labyrinth with no end, but no matter how she tried to curse him, she knew that deep inside something remained that had set her free. “He was beautifully terrifying, as well. The fact that I can’t hate him scares me and in turn, is a complete loss of control of my future because I can’t be the person I thought I was. I can’t hate a demon I considered a monster before. I hated him before I left Genil, I hated his kind. Now, I can’t remember what it takes to despise someone who hurt others and that isn’t me. That isn’t Crystal. I’m a defender of those who can’t defend themselves Kentaro and now, a personal bias prevents me from doing that. That’s what scares me, more than his claws, more than his eyes, more than waking up in bloody lingerie.”

Re: Simple Survival (Crystal)
The elder stopped eating, listening to what she said. His eyes closed as he clenched his chopsticks. Black hair fell before him as his head lowered some. A silence fell within the room. Only a snap could be heard as pieces of the chopsticks fell to the ground.

Anger and sorrow filled his heart. What was the cause for these emotions? The fact that this fox demon had hurt her. This filled his heart with anger. The fact that she loved this monster. That was what made his heart swell with sorrow. It wasn't her distance. It wasn't her cryptic words. It was what happened to her. It was how she felt.

Blood began to drip from his fingertips, but he didn't mind. In a matter of seconds, the wounds closed up and the blood dried up, flaking away in the breeze. "I'm sorry I wasn't there to protect you..." he finally said, his voice barely above a whisper. The crimson eyes of the elder opened and landed on his friend.

"You are a terrific woman, and a terrific protector. Don't let your fears hold you back. You are the mother of Genil, don't ever forget that. The city needs you. It needs more then just your protection, however. It needs your love, Crystal. You have to open your heart to your people. " He sighed, shaking his head.

"You have to find the strength within."

“Is strength like an endless well?” Crystal’s eyes were closed as she spoke. It felt as if the night could just simply pick her up and make her float away with the very breath of the wind. “Can you draw from it again and again without it ever depleting? Or is it a one shot thing? I mean, hell, maybe I had enough strength in me for a life time but.. Four, five lifetimes? I don’t know if I can find it inside me anymore, I simply don’t know.” But I must… Her thoughts answered her questions silently and she glanced at the ground, then returned to the table, settling herself back into her seat as the plates were cleared away. She crossed one of her legs over the other, gaining some of the grace she’d been so lacking lately. Her shoulders were straight as her eyes met Kentaro’s, blue gazing into pure red. They’d always been striking to her and the thought made the edges of her lips curl up just the smallest bit.

“Genil needs you as well Kentaro. She needs all of us, together. I can’t explain how I know that, but somewhere inside, I do.” Crystal’s throat hurt from talking for so long and her body ached with fatigue, it had simply been a long day, but somehow she was beginning to feel lighter from the inside. Just Kentaro’s simple words had been enough for her to invest a tiny bit of belief within herself. What if he was right?
