Shows 4/8 & 4/17
4/8/03 - Blind Pig (Ann Arbor, MI)

Got a call about a week and a half prior to doing this show from the Blind Pig asking us if we could fill the headlining spot that the band, Chauncey, had cancelled on. So after talking to the guys, it was pretty unanimous that we would be playing the first show as a full band since December. It really isn't easy taking time off, and everyone was pretty eager to get together to play this show; we decided to do an intimate acoustic set. The night of the show started off a bit disasterous. Chris had mentioned that he'd be a little late to the show, but we never took into consideration that he'd be missing sound check and have most of the percussion equipment in his possession. So we pretty much did a sound check with just guitars, bass and vocals. It was nice, however, to be reunited with the sound guy there, Nick, that did our first couple shows at the Pig back in 2000/2001. He once told us about the time he had to "babysit" Wesley Willis, and he gave him orange juice by accident and Willis went psycho on him. Hilarious. Anyways, we went over on our sound check a little, but luckily the openers were playing solo acoustic and were very understanding; they didn't need a whole lot of time. By the way, we were very fortunate to pick up a last minute show and be set up with support from two very reputable performers in our same community, Pete Schmidt and Dan Darrah. Dan opened the evening to a somewhat sparse crowd, but very attentive for the most part. It's always cool seeing virgin ears really warm up to him. He tends to have a really good first impression on people. East coast native, Pete Schmidt, went on just after Dan. It's great to see Pete getting out to the Midwest and start building a fan base. He's got a great repuation out East, and judging by the amount of people that came out to see him for this show, he shouldn't have too much trouble slowly building a strong following. It was my first time checking him out and he is very talented, even despite being sick for the show and cancelling a show the night before. Soon after Pete was finished, we took the stage with our acoustic guitars and congas to play in front of the smallest Blind Pig audience we had ever seen. So it was intimate to say the least; not exactly the rowdy plugged in nights we were used to in years past. There was no set list. Just us and a little under 100 people. We played new and old. I think only 2 covers. One of them being, Ramble On, a favorite Zep tune that we used to play when we were younger and are just now bringing back. It would have been nice to preview some of our newer stuff, but we didn't have much rehearsal time to collaborate on them acousticly and didn't want to fall flat on our faces trying to perform them. One of the newest that we did in fact play, however, was Always Been on the Move. We are really excited to get this one down in the studio for the new album. Work on this album is never ending. I wish we could wrap up, but there is so much to record and so much material that needs to be sorted through. We'll keep you updated the best we can. Anyway, there was no set list to leave you with from the show, however, there was someone with a videocamera in the audience so perhaps we'll be able to post a set list some time when we get a hold of a copy.

4/17/03 - Small's (Hamtramck, MI) w/ Pseudopod

Once again, another last minute show. This time we were given a whopping 3 day advance. Clear Channel called us the Monday before asking if we could pick up another acoustic show supporting Pseudopod in Detroit. We definitely were not going to be able to promote the show, but once again, we were very eager to get back on a stage. Plus, we were interested in checking out another act in the communiy that was building quite a buzz. It seemed like we all took seperate cars to this show. Our cheering section mainly consisted of our packed guest list. However, since both Pseudopod and us had toured with O.A.R., there were a lot of people in the audience very familiar with our music. I hate to use the word "sparse" to describe the crowd, but that's what it was. I can't even relate to you how much I look forward to playing real shows again this summer to larger audiences (God willing). We were only alotted a 30 minute set but were informed by the band to take some more time if we wanted. After playing 4 songs the front of house sound guy rudely announced that we were done and our set was over. However, with some help from the crowd, we insisted on at least one more so we closed with Sanity. Definitely not a sweet move by the sound guy but at least we were able to close a 5 song show the way we wanted. The band stuck around and checked out Pseudopod for a bit. They have this amazingly tight jazz sound and that was enough keep our attention. We may just hook up with them for some more shows. We'll see. I talked to some guys in the band after the show and met them for the first time. It was nice to talk to a band that could relate to our horror stories dealing with O.A.R.'s awesome tour manager, Joel :eek

Set List -
