Shows 11/22 & 11/23 - HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
First off, I'd like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. I spent mine at my parent's house with just the immediate family. Didn't get over full this year for the first time ever so I guess that is a good thing. I can't wait for leftovers. Good turkey sandwich. With that said, here's a wrap-up of last weekends shows. Enjoy!

11/22 - The Stadium (Oxford, OH) -

Friday afternoon, four out of the five of us loaded up the van and headed down to Ohio for our second trip to Miami University. Fortunately, we had our travel mate, Alex, helping us out this weekend and he was able to drive while we practiced a bit for the acoustic show we were going to play that night (ps...thanks to my cousin David who let me borrow his guitar). Unfortunately, however, Alex is a horrible driver and we almost rolled the van repeated amounts of time. Miraculously, we made it to the venue in decent time and immediately started setting up. Garen from Granian, who was headlining, was in Cincinnati doing another show and wasn't making it back until later that night so we were able to set up and play a little bit longer of a set. A longer set gave us the opportunity to jam things out a bit and play some covers that we don't usually play. It all worked out nicely because we were able to relax a bit and pretty much do whatever we wanted. No set list or anything. We took the stage somewhere around 10:30pm and did our intro jam which we hadn't done since our first show as a band in the Summer of 2000. The rest of the show was pretty much picking songs at random and playing them. A few notable highlights for me was first, playing Guster's, 'Mona Lisa', which we hadn't done since Madison, Wisconsin, March of 2001. Sounded much much better this time. Hopefully there's a good recording of it somewhere. Another highlight was playing, 'Never Say Goodbye', one of our newer songs that usually is too slow to make the cut for most of our shows. We even did the extended jam at the end. Lastly, I had a lot of fun doing an acoustic rendition of Ben Harper's, 'Steel My Kisses', with scat and everything. Garen showed up towards the end of the set and then went on almost immediately after we finished. As always, we had a blast during his set and met and danced with a lot of cool people. Our own, Scott Poloney, got up on stage to his already set up percussion kit and jammed a few songs with Garen. They actually sounded great with eachother, being that it was completely unrehearsed. Next time we come back to Oxford, we definitely look forward to bringing the whole band.

11/23 - Michigan State's IM West (East Lansing, MI) -

It was nice because, thanks to Alex, we were able to watch the Michigan vs. Ohio State football game on a television in the van. However, It wasn't nice because Michigan didn't pull off the win against their rivals and we almost rolled the van another repeated amount of times. We got to Michigan State and met up with Chris, who was the member not present in Ohio. We were playing some sort of Greek sponsored festival which included some local bands. I guess the promotion wasn't so great leading up to the show because there couldn't have been any more than 20 people there. We didn't even get a chance to promote the show on our end because we didn't even have the details confirming our participation in the show until the Monday before. Regardless, we kinda just got on stage with no set list and started playing songs. We opened with the intro jam we did for our first show in the Summer of 2000, once again and for an astonishing second consecutive show. This time, however, Mike randomly chose to go into Pearl Jam's, 'Black'. I don't think we have ever played that live. Funny enough, that is the first song I had ever sung with Chris, Mike and Matt back when I started with them at a practice in 1998. Besides playing, '#41', the rest of the set mainly consisted of the regular bunch of songs we have been playing during this Fall's touring. No set list was recorded so that will probably never be available. It was a good set though, despite the large echo created from the large, empty gymnasium. The organizers were very nice as well and helped us with our equipment, which we really appreciated, and I extra appreciated because I was able to go to the Counting Crows show that night which was being held down the street at the MSU Auditorium. We'll let you know next time we come back to East Lansing so next time we have a crowd.
