Palpatine's face
I've heard many contradictory explanations about why Palpatine's face decayed about 1st using Force lightening against Mace Windu. Anyone care to explain this?
In the book it seems to say that the Force lightening rips into his face badly scarring him. I've also heard the Force lightening in fact rips away a mask of Palpatine's face. Another question hard to answer.Edited by: AdmiralMudd at: 6/23/05 9:15 am
Re: Palpatine's face
The problem with the idea that force lightening scarred him is that it doesn't happen in any other scenario where force lightening is used, e.g., against Anakin by Dooke. Why doesn't the emperor get more scarred when he does the same thing agsinst Luke?
The notion that Palpatine is wearing a mask also problems. For instance, he appears as Darth Sidious to his own apprenticce and the Trade Federation leaders looking like the chancelor, which put the risk of exposure extremely high, even though he was hooded. Better than merely put on a hood for disguise, his identity would have been far better protected if he took his "mask" off when he appeared as Sidious.
Re: Palpatine's face
Going back to the first explanation, perhaps the proximity of Windu blocking the force lightening is the factor in why some of it rebounded back to the Emperor and why this didn't happen at other times. Proximity.
Re: Palpatine's face
I just realized there are books that refer to the dark side melting the flesh off Palpatine's body and that of his clones. The trouble with this is it is not canon. GL repeatedly said he would not be held to the confines of published literature.
