Outlaws sign former WPHL MVP
Jamie Thompson!
SAN ANGELO - Concho Valley Pro Hockey is very excited today to announce the signing of former Western Professional Hockey League Most Valuable Player Jamie Thompson for the 2002-2003 season. Thompson will occupy one of the five veterans slots for the team as well as being a player-assistant coach along with Chris Peach. After playing three years at the University of Maine, Thompson joined the El Paso Buzzards in 1996 for the WPHL's inaugural season. He then proceeded to lead the Buzzards to back-to-back Championships in 1996-97 and 1997-98. In 1997-98 Thompson (pictured receiving the MVP Award) led the WPHL in goals-scored with 71 and was named both the league MVP and the WPHL Man of the Year. His WPHL totals include 184 points (105 goals) in just 108 games.
Thompson left the WPHL after the 1997-98 season and signed a 2-year deal with the NHL's St. Louis Blues. He played 2 ½ seasons for the Blues' AHL team, the Worcester IceCats, and finished last season with the AHL Providence Bruins - notching 31 goals and 21 assists in 145 AHL games. He also spent most of one season in the East Coast Hockey League where he was voted to the All-Star Game in 1998-99.
"Jamie Thompson is obviously the biggest signing of my career," says Head Coach Brent Scott. "J.T. is a great person and a great hockey player. He will definitely bring a lot of skill and a lot of class to our organization." The club has now signed 14 players for the 2002-2003 season. They have two goalies, 8 forwards and 4 defensemen under contract and have filled 4 of their 5 veterans slots. Training Camp opens on October 7th and the first game of the season is October 18th at home against El Paso.
