Murlocs
Murlocs will be the new Alliance race and here is why I think so,
They fit the "ugly" factor.
Baby murloc pets were the main gift at Blizcon.
They have recently posted inklings about their history on the WoW main site.
It would give the Alliance two capitol cites on Kalimdor. Azshara will be the starting zone. Will give them reason to flesh out this under used zone.
They already have a working charater model in game.
They don't belong to either side.
Before the recent posting, not much was known about them.
They are already casters and warriors.
They already come in different colors in game.
I am seriously hoping for a release soon as they have made the announcement of test servers coming soon. You would think that they would make a formal announcement about the new race before the test servers go live. I am guessing expansion will be out for Christmas this year.

In all seriousness Sytry, you do use good logic, so you may be on to something. I wonder what they would do about their speech though.
I am hoping for the release in the not so distant future as well. I so hate the current end game content. Too much emphasis on epic gear and not enough exploration and development of character to suit me. Plus, all the loot stuff creates way too much drama in my guild. And they really are a fairly laid back guild. I can only imagine what it is like in some of the big-time raiding guilds.

The speech issue is something I was wondering about in my theory. Although, I hear recently from someone who is supposedly related to a developer, that it is going to be something not already in game. That it is going to be something completely new, but is already in the lore.
That is one of the main things that concern me about joining a big guild. Fighting over loot and all the things that I worked hard to gather, isn't mine, but belongs to the guild.
