Most Annoying Christmas Song Ever
It's the holidays, and with it comes all the festive decoration, multi-colored lights, and... sigh... the music. Not that I don't like holiday music; I do, it's just there's usually one or two songs that are ALWAYS playing on the radio or in the stores where ever I go. And it's highly annoying.
So I thought it would be interesting if we compiled a list of the most annoying Christmas music ever made. Just to vent it out of our systems. Here's my top picks:
Paul McCartney: Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time
God I hate this song. I have no idea why the local radio station keeps playing this insipid little number over and over and over... The music itself sounds like someone beating an 80's Cassio keyboard to death with a hammer. Someone who happens to be tone deaf. And the lyrics are equally moronic: "The mood is right / The spirits up / Were here tonight / And that's enough." Puts you in the Holiday mood, right?
The Beach Boys: The Man With All The Toys
This would be a perfectly acceptable Christmas song about Ol' Saint Nick if it weren't for the back-up singers repeating "baa!" every second of the song. It's right up there with "Jenny 876-5309" in terms of annoying repetition of a phrase. One listen to the song will get "Baa! Baa! Baa! Baa! Baa!" stuck in your head for many weeks after the holidays have ended.
So sirs and/or madams, which December ditty drives you daft? Which holiday hoedown have you hatred for? Which... um... (pulls out thesaurus) crazed Christmas carol can't you comprehend? --Okay, that's enough of that.
Annoying Christmas Songs
I gotta agree with the "Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time" song. It's GARBAGE! HATE!
"My Favorite Things" (see: The Sound Of Music) got transmuted to being a christmas song, and I think that's annoying as hell. Thankfully, I have an MP3 of Negativland twisting the song to hell at a concert, so I always just think of that. "Raindrops on kittens... whiskers on roses..."
Some of the parody songs I hate. "The Twelve Pains of Christmas" makes me want to break Bob Rivers face open. It's sad too, since he's done so many good ones (do yourself a favor and download Bob Rivers "Santa Claus" - it's a parody of Black Sabbath's "Iron Man")
I've been considering putting together a christmas album of tolerable songs. I have a partial list:
OCCUPANT - Another Happy Holiday
The Kinks - Father Christmas
That punk cover of "You're A Mean One Mister Grinch"
Some selections from Mark Mothersbaugh's "Joyeux Mutato" album.
Re: Most Annoying Chirstmas Song Ever
First of all the Gap Commercial's not a Christmas song it's a Gap Commercial, secondly don't bash it, my Roomie loves that commercial, and as far as annoying x-mas songs go, why hasn't anyone mentioned the Chipmunks song, Christmas time is here, or what ever, come on thats the definition.

Um... Yeah...
There's this utterly atrocious song that my roommate listens to called "Santa got a Sunburn" that easily trumps any of those you've listed. It's sung by some lunatic called "Barefoot Man" who performs exclusively in the Cayman Islands. Apparently it's huge down there, but DAMN is it annoying. I am in the process of looking for it and will put it on my webspace if I find it so y'all can hear it. But, anyway, that's my vote.
Off subject, but not really
Okay this isn't a song, but it falls into the bad Christmas media catagory. On Wednesday at 8:30 ET/7:30 Central on the Cartoon Network there is a horrible Christmas classic. Yup, you guessed it: Christmas Comes to Pac-Land
If you haven't seen this train wreck, I suguest that you toon in (get it? hahaha! shut up Pat)
Back to annoying Christmas songs...
Ok, have you guys ever had to sit and listen through the Old Navy Christmas CD? I mean, I like Old Navy and all, but that CD is REALLY annoying. All you can think about when it's on is silly choreographed dancing with a bunch of people in their khaki pants and their striped sweaters and whatnot...
I know that I'm really behind now. Believe me, it's not my choice... I'm just really bogged down with so much classwork that I can't update as often as I want to. The sad thing is that this is only the second week of classes in this quarter... I don't even want to imagine what things will be like when finals roll around. But I do plan to continue the comic strip... it's just a problem of finding the right time for it.
I hope to be able to catch up this weekend. I'm not sure if I can, but I'll try.
term time, prison sentence, what's the diff?
Again, I'm confused.
Back in October, I was starting back, you were having your mid-terms. Now I'm finishing up in a week, and you're only on your second week?
Well, I suppose I should factor in that we have one of the shortest term times, compared to the other universities around here.
Are you going to get home for the holidays?
And as for update times, hey, I pride myself on being one of the laziest cartoonists on Keenspace! I have one of the lowest labour-intensive comics to produce, and I barely ever do it! WOO-HOO!
Re: term time, prison sentence, what's the diff?
I'm on "quarters," which means I have three semesters of classes while most colleges have two. This is so we can take more varied classes during our years here, and so we can slowly lose any shred of our sanity we have remaining. Nice trade off, I guess.
I'll be home for the holidays in one week from today, but I'll only have two weeks of break, while everyone else I know will get a month or two. Yay.
And I just realized I missed the Pac-Man Christmas Special. Darn! But that new special from those guys who made Wallace and Gromit will be on CBS later tonight at nine. Sounds good to me!

Speaking of Annoying Christmas songs..
Wow, I haven't posted in a while. But since the subject was brought up, I thought I'd give my two cents *clink clink*
In Pittsburgh, they have not one but two Christmas music stations which blast really bad 80's and/or Kenny G renditions of holiday classics 24 hours a day from Thanksgiving to New Years. I unfourtunately have my alarm clock set to one of these stations (I'm too lazy to switch it) and the songs I wake up to completely ruin any aspect of holiday "cheer" I may feel entitled to have at 5 in the morning. (Yes, being a sophmore I still have to wake up at 5:00 am five days out of the week, unlike you college folk ) Here is a list of some of the songs I've woken up to this past weeks:
Several songs by Kenny G.
"Hey Santa"
"Please Celebrate Me Home"
"All I Want For Christmas Is You"
"This Christmas (I Gave You My Heart)"-I don't know the real title to this song...
"Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time"-This station is where the hatred started for Brian, Pat, and myself...the station *loves* this song; they even use it in their advertisements.
But their is one song which truly shows the spirit of the holidays around Pennsylvania:
"The Second Week of Deer Camp" by Dr. Demento. It's annoying, it's stupid, but it's funny if you live in an area where you get the first day of deer season off as a school holiday.
Anyways, there's my list. There are many, many more, but I don't want to say too much. *looks up at her post* aie...too late.
Y'learn something new every day
This just manages to stay on topic, but not quite.
A local radio station today conducted a fiendish experiment, whereby they played the (never off the air) "Sk8r Boi" and the probably largely forgotten Tiffany's "I think we're alone now" simultaneously to prove that they're the same song.
It's almost as surreal as two of my friends pointing out that "Smells like teen spirit" sounds similar to "More than a feeling".
Here it is, at long last...
Believe it or not, I ACTUALLY FOUND (translation: my roommate made) AN MP3 of "Santa got a sunburn." It is now available for your listening pleasure:
Listen to it and tell me if you think it's annoying. John-Michael insists that it is the greatest Christmas song ever. We'll see what the consensus opinion is. Enjoy!
Santa's Sunburn Hurts!
Yeah, I'd have to say that's a pretty annoying song. I think the worst part is the kids in the background with the hick accent, though.
(Just because I'm Texan doesn't mean I have to talk like it...)
Re: Most Annoying Christmas Song Ever
I highly recommend KATE BUSH's song "DECEMBER WILL BE MAGIC AGAIN". If you enjoy getting reactions out of people as much as I do, then this song is guaranteed to drive anyone insane. Happy Hunting.
