MANEATER UNITED!

Chapter 1. Anticipation.

“You can’t be serious, you really mean we have to drive to the airport in that?” Joey looked sceptically at the small car that was parked outside the house. “What happened to the other car, the one you used to pick us up?”

Ellen, car-keys dangling from her left forefinger, coat under her other arm, threw her an innocent look. “What do you mean, you can’t be serious? What’s wrong with it?”

“Well, for starters it’s tiny, and secondly, we’re supposed to pick somebody up, remember? How the heck do you expect four adults to fit in a contraption that can barely hold three?”

“Heey, careful woman! Stop insulting my car. Would you rather walk to the airport? You’ll just have to squeeze together a bit more, that’s all.”

“Insult your car?” Joey giggled. “You sure that’s a car, and not a moped with a roof?”

“JOEY!” There was a warning tone in Ellen’s voice.

“Hehe, better be careful Jo,” from the background came the calm voice of Aleks, who just walked out of the garden, buttoning up her coat. “If you insult her car you’re insulting the Ellen.”
She grinned, “I’ve never seen somebody so attached to her set of wheels before.”

“Damned right I am,” Ellen looked triumphant, “I’ve worked my butt off to pay for that “contraption” as Joey wishes to call it. Besides, there’s more than enough room, as long as Kai didn’t bring too many bags with her.”

“And what if she has?” wanted Joey to know.

“Tsk, tsk.. questions, questions. We’ll jump that hurdle when it comes to it. If push comes to shove we’ll just have to keep them in our laps, or I’ll tie them to the roof.”

Joey nearly cringed with laughing and Aleks couldn’t hold back a giggle either.
“The roof…!” Joey gasped for air. “She means to tie Kai’s bags on the roof. Woman, there is not enough roof for that, a single bag is wider than that whole roof of yours.”

Ellen threw both giggling girls a dark look. “Yeah you two.. keep it up, by all means, keep it up.”
She leaned with her shoulder against the side of the car, and assumed a waiting posture.
“While the two of you are giggling and making fun of MY car, Kai’s plane it touching down and she’ll be wondering what the heck is keeping us.”

Aleks took pity and shoved Joey, “come on we’ll manage. We’ve managed before when Ellen picked me up from the airport, and we’ll manage again.”

“Besides,” Ellen chimed in, “there is no other way. Like I already told you, hubby and the kids took the other car to Les-Arcs-sur-Argent. They demanded a vacation of their own while we’re going to the States. I had them on the phone this morning when you ladies were sleeping in. They’re having a field day. Now, let’s get moving, or we’re gonna be too late.
Without further ado they all jumped in the car and drove off.

A little while later the car merged onto the freeway, and joined the long row of cars that was speeding towards Amsterdam.

“Man, is it always this crowded?” sighed Aleks.

Ellen grinned. “It’s a small country with some 16 million people, and 60% lives in the west. Of course it’s crowded, but don’t worry sweety, I’m used to it.”
She seamlessly cut off a car that was trying to overtake her without having the right of way and grinned again. “That will show him.”

Joey laughed from the backseat. “You’re dangerous woman, we’ll be lucky to make it to the airport in one piece. Oh girls, I can’t believe that we’re all going to be together in a few days.”

Aleks and Joey had been staying with Ellen over the past week and were now on their way to pick up another one of their friends. They had met purely by coincidence on a LOTR-based message board and were now gathering in Ellen’s place, before crossing the Atlantic to attend a huge Lord of the Rings convention that was about to take place in Atlanta.
There they would meet up with Carly, the fifth nut in a party of six.

They were all hoping to meet a lot of the other members from the message board at the convention, because a whole group of people intended to join, but not all were yet confirmed to show up.

Each of the girls had their own little reasons to be interested in Lord of the Rings. All had read and thoroughly enjoyed the books and all had relished in the movies. And truth be told, all had their own little (or big) crushes and/or obsessions with the some of the actors.

Joey reached over from the back and patted Ellen on her shoulder. “Hey you, danger-on-wheels, I damned well hope you make sure we arrive there and back again in one piece.
And that we don’t run into another Orlando look-alike, because then we’re all going to be in a hedge.”

Ellen, threw her a quick sideways glance before returning her gaze to the crowded highway and grumbled “we’re on the freeway woman, don’t you worry, even in my country there are no hedges on the freeway.”

Aleks perked her ears. “Hedges? Orlando-lookalike? What are you talking about Jo?

Joey nearly fell of her seat laughing. “You mean Ellen didn’t tell you that story? Oh woman, it was too good to be true. “

Aleks eyes lit up in anticipation. “Noo, she didn’t tell me.. what was that.. what happened?

Jo shoved Ellen “Didn’t you tell her?”

Ellen cringed. “No I didn’t. And it wasn’t all that funny, t’was more like embarrassing.”

Aleks turned around facing Joey. “Embarrassing? Jo, come on, spill.. what’s it all about?”

Joey smiled, “shall I tell her?”

Ellen shrugged. “Well, I doubt there will be a force in this world strong enough to hold you back. Go ahead, but remember Aleks, it’s not funny, it was weird, and eerie.”

Joey started “well it all happened when she…” she pointed at Ellen, “…was on her way home from work. She passed a guy on a bike, no doubt with one of her usual smooth overtaking-manoeuvres.”

“Heey.. stop insulting my driving abilities. He was never in any danger I swear,” protested Ellen.

Aleks grinned, “go on Jo.. what happened?”

“Well, while passing Ellen threw him a glance. And she noticed a certain resemblance to a certain Orlando Bloom.. man Aleks.. I swear, the woman is obsessed, she sees that guy everywhere.”

“Oh.. come on. That’s NOT true,” Ellen interrupted, “it was weird Aleks, I swear, he was just like him.. same hair, same posture, same moves. And when I passed him I couldn’t help but look and he even had the same nose and eyes.. and, and.. oh brother, for an instant, even though I knew it couldn’t be him, my mind was playing tricks on me.”

Aleks laughed, “and? Was it him?”

Joey grimaced. “Of course not, but our beloved Ellen was so thrown by the mere possibility of nearly driving Orlando off the road……….” “I didn’t drive him off the …” Ellen interfered. “…that she completely lost track and nearly parked her car into the hedge that was beside the road” continued Joey without taking notice of the interruption.

“NOOO!” Aleks roared with laughter, “you didn’t?!.. did you really end up in the hedge?”

A distinct red crept up Ellen’s cheeks. “No, I did not, I managed to steer clear of the hedge. And no, it wasn’t him of course, but the resemblance was striking. And please don’t bring it up at the convention. It was embarrassing to say the least. But damn.. did that guy look like him.”

Joey shoved Aleks. “HIM.. he looked like HIM, Ellen darling, in a few days time you’re gonna see HIM in real life, do you think you can survive that? Or do we have to scout the area for bushes?”

“Oh shut up,” said their victim cheerfully. “I can’t wait to see him in real life, even if it’s from a huge distance. Y’all know that very well, but don’t you start with me. I know you’re counting the days to see Lij in the flesh, Jozer. And if Aleks sees Dom walking through the door I better make sure to have a paperbag at hand to stop her from hyperventilating.
Ahh, there we are, arrivals… ladies, keep your eyes peeled for a parkingspace.”

With the combined help of three sets of eyes a vacant lot was found in no time, and they made their way to the arrivals hall cheering and laughing, eager to meet yet another gleeful member of Maneater United

That's a great start to a story. It's well-written and I especially like the happy banter between the 'characters'. It's lovely to see everyone added to the story, it gives it authentacy (sp?)

Can't wait till the wenches meet their men, haha, that will be fun no doubt. :) Great job!

(See I stink at reviewing, unless it's a horrid story...)

Chapter 2. (re)-United

The arrivals hall was crowded, loads of people walking in and out, dragging bags behind them or pushing luggage trolleys. The buzz of a big international airport surrounded the three girls the minute they entered the revolving doors.

“Whereto now?” Aleks looked around with a puzzled frown. “I sure wish that the powers that be would put up clearer signs. How the heck are we going to find her in this sea of faces?”

Ellen grinned. “You look like a homing pigeon that lost its compass.”

“Stop worrying Aleks see.. look over there.” Joey pointed in the distance where a huge sign was displaying the incoming flights and the gates where they were expected to land.
She trotted in that direction with the two other girls in tow.

“Anyone know her flightnumber?” it was Ellen who wanted to know.

“Flightnumber?” Joey and Aleks looked at each other and then to Ellen. “Don’t you know it then?”

“Who me? No, she talked to you guys over the phone last time, remember? I was shoving the kids in bed when she called. Did none of you think of asking her?”

Joey and Aleks looked at each other again and Joey burst out laughing. “Nope, never crossed our minds, we were too exited about everything.”

“Yeah,” Aleks nodded, “it still feels so unreal to be here, together, and on our way to the States in a few days. It’s like a dream come true.”

“Yeah, that’s all fine and dandy, but how the heck are we gonna find her now?” Ellen looked at the huge bulletin board that kept shifting numbers and places, every time a plane had landed.

Joey grinned, “how hard can it be? She comes from Australia, how many planes can there be coming from down under?”

“Well..”, Aleks did a quick survey. “I’ve noticed about 10 so far.”

“10??? All in one day? What’s going on out there, mass-evacuation?” Jo threw a glance at the board and came to the same conclusion, “uhmmm.. 11 actually Aleks, look, there’s one all the way down there too, flying in from Auckland.”

“Come on girls” Ellen jumped in, “what’s this? 20 questions? Spot as many Australian planes as you can within a minute? We have to determine which one’s Kaizer’s. and to be honest, I haven’t got a clue.”

Joey came up with an idea. “Well we could go check them all out.”

“Oh suuure,” said Aleks, “11 planes and there are only three of us. Do the math woman, besides, they’re all landing in different spots of the airport, look, different gatenumbers all around.”

“Bloody Dutch,” grumbled Joey. “You’d think a modern country could come up with a little more efficiency in matters like these. Who the heck dreamt up the idea of directing all the planes from down south to different corners of the airport? Weird guys. Heey, where’s Ellen going?”

“Ellen!” Aleks shouted after the woman who was heading towards a desk at the end of the hall. “Where are you going?”

Ellen turned around and waived towards a spot somewhere in the distance. “Information desk!” she shouted back. “I’ll inquire!”

“For what?” Yelled Joey, “Hey miss, what flight is Kaizer on?! Even Dutch information desks can’t be that good!”

Ellen, her head still turned in their direction, gestured don’t worry, just wait there, I’ll be right back.
But her attention was focused on Aleks and Joey and not on where she was going. And when she turned around to stroll towards the information desk she smashed into a heavily plastered woman, who was pushing a trolley with way to many bags on it. The bags were scattered around and the woman shouted, “watch were you’re going idiot!”

Aleks and Joey hurried over, but Ellen had already gotten to her feet again and was now eying the furious woman with an air of utter disdain.
“What did you say?” She required to know. “Did you call me an idiot? Now who’s the idiot around here? What nut would stash so many bags on a trolley in the first place, and then scoot around the hall like a drunken maniac? By Jove, and that calls me an idiot!”

“Come on ladies, we’ve got more pressing matters at hand” and she marched across the hall in a royal fashion, with Joey and Aleks in her wake, giggling like mad.
“Hedges are much more convenient to crush into” hissed Joey from the corner of her mouth to Aleks, who snickered.

The information desk did just what its purpose was. Providing information, and thankfully the accurate one. After a lengthy conversion with a very pleasant and helpful employee they narrowed the field down to 4 possible planes.

“Ok..” Ellen suggested, “let’s draw straws, the fourth misses out, the other three we can each check up.”

“Sounds like a plan,” agreed Joey, and after the necessary actions with a piece of paper, each of them went in different directions, hoping that on one of the planes they would find their missing link.

But all their fussing turned out to be useless, because when they entered the area where the corridors split up towards the different gates, a huge mob of people burst out of one of them.
And when the first wave passed them, they heard a cheery voice from behind a couple of bulky, blond-haired men.
“YO! ELLEN!, JOZER!! MATES!!! I’m heeere!”

The blonde, curly hair of a shiny girl appeared from behind the group of men. She waived them goodbye as one of them handed her a bag. “Thanks blokes, t’was nice flying with y’all.. see ya around!”

“Girlies!!” With a whirl and a twirl she jumped in the arms of the three girls that were waiting. “You can’t imagine how exited I am. I’m finally here, in the flesh. OH man.. it’s soo good to see you.”

The group of men turned around, waived and shouted something. Kai turned in their direction and shouted back.. “SURE ALL BLACKS RULE!”

Joey, Aleks and Ellen exchanged glances and grinned. “Don’t tell me…” Ellen started. “Surely not….?” asked Joey.
“You got to be kidding me..” added Aleks.

Kai turned around with a wide grin. “Oh yeah… fans alright. We’ve had a great time on the flight, exchanged views, compared notes. And can you believe it, one of those blokes even had the address of Dough Howlett?”

“Nooo..” cheered Joey, “Really??? Of Dough Howlett? But, but that’s amazing!!
Who’s Dough Howlett?” She asked Aleks from the corner of her mouth, who threw her a I’ll be damned if I know look.

Kai nearly dropped her bag. “Oh guys,.. I can see I’ve got my work cut out for me during the next few weeks. Lots of intercultural explaining to do.”

“More like intercontinental explaining,” grinned Ellen. “Come on, let’s get your bags, and make for home, we have a lot of catching up to do, not to mention a lot of planning.
You’ve got exactly three days to get over your jetlag, woman, before you’re gonna score some more. Our flight for Atlanta leaves Friday.”

Kai smiled widely. “Are you guys just as exited as I am. Can you imagine girls? We’re gonna meet a lot more boardmembers.. AND we’re going to see the Urbanite in real life. Now how good does that sound?”

“Sounds awesome,” agreed Joey, “not to mention Lij.”

“And DOM!” Added Aleks.

Ellen didn’t say anything, but looked out of the window to the darkening sky, where the first faint stars were showing, with a vague, wry smile around the corners of her mouth.

“What’s wrong Ellen.” asked Aleks, “you’re soo quiet all of a sudden.”

“Well I was just thinking, of course I know that the changes of getting closer to one of those guys are slim, but somehow it feels like my changes are slimmer than yours.”

“Why’s that?” Wanted Joey to know.

“Well out of the entire LOTR crew, Orlando is the most in demand of all right now. They’ll be shielding him like the crown jewels, I’ll be lucky if I get to see him from a mile distance.”

The three other girls threw their arms around their slightly disappointed friend and partner-in-crime.
“Aww, don’t feel bad, maybe we’ll get lucky, maybe you’ll get lucky. And even if we don’t see them at all.. it will still be great to be together and meet the others. And heey.. we still have Carly to pick up.”

Ellen grinned.. “now that’s a pick-me-up if ever I heard one. And you’re all soo right. Come’on, see Aleks.. they actually have EXIT signs here. Let’s follow them out and see if we can stuff all this gorgeous women-flesh into that tiny car of mine.”

“Oh brother.. that car..” Joey grabbed Kai’s arm and pulled her along. “Listen Kai, I’ve got to tell you this.. Ellen’s got a thing with cars and hedges, and that’s..” their voices trailed off as they walked ahead.

Ellen looked at Aleks, “I’ll never hear the end of that car-hedge accident I fear.”

Aleks smiled and hooked into Ellen’s arm. “Don’t feel bad darling, if anyone’s to blame for the hedge-incident it’s Orlando.”

“Orlando?” Ellen gave her a strange look. “How do you figure that? The poor guy wasn’t even in the vicinity.”

“And what a shame that was eh?” teased Aleks. “No I mean, if he wasn’t so darned cute he wouldn’t have been the cause of the whole incident.”

Ellen squeezed Alek’s arm. “Yeah, but then again, we wouldn’t be here without him and the others right? Maneater United would not have been founded without Lij, Viggo, Orlando, Craig, Dom and Karl.”

The magic word Karl pulled Kai out of her conversation with Joey.
“Did I hear the gorgeous being mentioned?” She wanted to know. “Hey you hedge-crumbler, what’s up with my Karl?”

“Hedge-crumbler.. now I’m a hedge-crumbler.. I didn’t even touch the bloody bush.” Ellen protested. “And I was just saying to Aleks that the whole Maneater United thing would not have seen the light of day without the gorgeous ones.”

All girls nodded in full agreement, and continued following Alek’s praised Exit signs towards the parkinglot.

Re: :)
Chapter 3. Planes, trains and automobiles.

Three days later, almost on the dot, they were all back at the airport. It had been three days filled with laughter, teasing, keeping house together and watching LOTR into the wee hours of the night.
Even though they all knew the movies by heart, the sheer pleasure of watching them together, pointing out their favourite scenes to one another and grinning in sync about the fun parts, had made the experience even better.
Not to mention the fact that the droolworthy parts had been on replay over and over again.

And now, after a morning of packing frenzy, laced with long discussions about what to take with them and what to wear, they finally made their way to the airport.

“Heey!” exclaimed Aleks, “this place looks entirely different than what we saw when we picked up Kai!”

Kai, who was walking right behind her, pulling her bags along with her, dryly said, “that might have something to do with the fact that this is departures Aleks darling, not arrivals.”

“Noo,” entered Joey, “they actually have signs here.”

With a grand gesture she circumvented the huge space, packed with people and a multitude of counters, all carrying the names of the different airlines.
“See Aleks, loads of signs, now all we have to do is find that one special counter where we have to check in for our flight.”
She scouted the area with piercing eyes.

Aleks turned around and shouted “Heey, Ellen, which airline has been granted the honour of transporting us to the States?”

Ellen walked up to them and tried to dig up the tickets from her purse. “Purses..” she muttered, “I hate those things. Everything always gets lost in them.”

Kai grinned, “not a purse-type eh?”

Ellen looked up, “Ohhh, you noticed? I never carry those……”

Aleks looked a bit surprised. “Now that you mention it, I’ve never seen you with one. Where the heck do you keep your stuff then?”

Ellen turned towards her. “What stuff? Except for car keys and money I don’t need stuff.. I hate stuff, I loose stuff.”

Joey laughed out loud, “What about papers woman, and were do you keep your money then, if not in a purse?”

Ellen submerged in the insides of her purse again and mumbled under her breath. “bloody thing, where are those darned tickets… papers? I don’t carry papers… and as for money.. coatpocket works fine with me.”

Kai looked a bit shocked. “Don’t you loose your money that way?”

Ellen, still digging around in the innards of her purse said, “nah, never lost money…., for crying out loud, this thing is like a black hole, it sucks stuff in only to be lost for good.
Ohh, there they are.”

With a triumphant look she waved the tickets around. “Air France ladies.. one stop over in London and then it’s US of A here we come!”

Aleks circled around and pointed at a nearby counter. “Air France! Right over there! Follow me!”

The whole group invaded the Air France counter only to be in for the biggest disappointment of the day.
“OVERBOOKED??” Ellen spat out the words. “How can that BE? We’ve booked our flight weeeeeks ago. How can this flight be overbooked then?”

The ground-stewardess behind the counter gave them her most apologetic look.
“I’m sorry ma’am but it happens. On every flight more tickets are sold than there are chairs. Because on every flight, some people won’t show up, due to several reasons. It hardly ever happens that the all the tickets are being claimed, but much to my dismay, it has happened today.”

“But, but, but…” Joey stuttered, “how do we get to the States then?”

“Yeah, how..?” demanded Kai from behind, accompanied by Aleks.

“Well ladies, all I can do right now is book you on the next flight.”

“And when will that leave?” wanted Ellen to know.

The ground-stewardess worked some magic on the computer in front of her. But the outcome wasn’t magical at all.
“Tomorrow. I’m sorry,” she apologized again. “All the other flights are ….”

“Overbooked as well..” interrupted Joey.

“Well that’s mighty fine, mate, raged Kai. “You can’t be serious lady, do you really expect us to go back home, and sleep on it, hoping to catch a flight tomorrow?”

“The DVD-player will sooo not survive another night of LOTR” whispered Aleks in the back. Ellen chuckled.

The stewardess composed her face in most efficient mode.
“I’m very sorry ladies, but there’s nothing else I can do. I cannot book you on a flight when there are not enough seats.”

“Well, to me it sounds like you’ve done just that with this flight…” countered Joey.

“Yeah,” Ellen backed her up. “You’ve overbooked this one too.. might as well go ahead and try the same trick on a later flight.”

“I’m exceedingly sorry,” said the woman behind the counter, with a face that countered her words. “But there’s nothing else I can do. Do you want me to book you on the flight for tomorrow, or not at all?”

Ellen cut the Gordian knot. “Ok, book us, and better make sure that we get our seats this time.”

A few minutes later the new tickets were handed to her and she turned around to her friends.
“THIS, is definitely the last time I EVER book an Air France plane. It’s back to the good old KLM for me.”
She talked over her shoulder, “THEY deliver when you book a flight.”
And she walked away from the counter, leaving the ground-stewardess completely unimpressed.

“Sheesh.. what a sucky situation” said Kai. “Here we are, all ready to go and no way to go.”

Ellen looked at her, then glanced at Joey and Aleks and said “no matter what happens next, I badly need a fix of caffeine. I’m dying for a hot cup of coffee. Let’s head for the nearest place where we can sit, because if I have to drag that bloody bag for one minute longer I’m gonna scream.”

“I’m with you woman,” Joey nodded in utter agreement. “Coffee, fast, hot, strong, now!
And a steaming cup of tea for the Aleks.”

Kai smiled, “tea, coffee… soo not my thing.”

Ellen grinned, “well I doubt if they can fix you up with your beloved Milo, but we sure can try.”

Aleks tilted her head in the right direction and took the lead. “That-a-way ladies, we’re going to ease our suffering before we head on home.”

Re: :)
Chapter 4. To leave or not to leave?

They all followed Aleks through the crowds of people flocking in departures like a flight of migrating birds.

Aleks dodged a group of businessmen, who were standing around looking important with their laptop-cases under their arms, when suddenly she halted.

Joey and Kai who had been right behind her didn’t see it coming and crashed into her back.

“Aleks!” shrieked Kai. “What the heck are you doing woman! She took a quick look at Aleks’ face, who looked as if her eyes were going to pop out of their sockets.
“Aleks!?? What’s wrong?”

“There!” Aleks pointed towards the back of a young man, who was surrounded by a group of sturdy looking men.
“LOOK! It’s DOM! I can’t believe it! It’s DOM.. I swear!”

Ellen, who had been walking behind the whole group looked in the direction Aleks was pointing. All she could see was a man’s back, barely visible among the crowd. “Are you sure Aleks??”

Joey shoved Kai “If those two keep it up like that, we’re gonna need a gardener soon, to trim all those hedges.” Kai cringed with laughter until her eye fell on Joey’s face, who suddenly had stopped laughing.
“Jozer? Joey?!”

But Jo stood like the proverbial salt pillar and stared in the distance.

Ellen came closer and looked from Aleks to Joey and from Joey to Aleks, “what the heck is going on here? Jo?”

Without a word Joey pointed to a man, who was approaching the group of men that was still walking away from the girls.

“Tha….. that… that’sssss Elijah!!!”

Ellen took a closer look. A young man freed himself from the people he was with and jumped into the arms of the other guy that was approaching them. They performed an Indian dance in the middle of the departure hall and their screams and shouts of delight echoed against the ceiling.

Then, in a sudden move, one of the men turned around and they got full view of the most amazing blue eyes in the history of moviemaking.
Elijah Wood indeed!
His cheerful smile lit up the place and his melodious voice was carried across the hall.
Easily recognizable and amazing as ever.
Then the other guy turned as well, and Dominic Monaghan’s cheeky laugh and twinkling eyes made it all to clear that both men were extremely happy to see each other.

Aleks and Joey stood like frozen, just staring at the men they both admired and loved.
Ellen elbowed Kai and winked at her before shoving both Aleks and Joey in their backs.

“Well ladies..here’s your change.. and the change of a lifetime it is. Both here, in the flesh, close-by and in good spirits. Get your asses overthere and talk to them.”

“Talk…?” Joey’s voice hitched, “talk… about what? I don’t know what to say, what to do?

Aleks said, without ever taking her eyes off him. “No way am I going over there, I’m soo embarrassed, my legs feel like glue. Oh my.. but doesn’t he look mighty fine in real life?”

Kai looked with observing eyes “Well, he’s alright I guess, it’s not Karl, but then again, nothing’s like Karl. Come’on mates, Ellen’s right, now is your change, get over there, ask for their autographs, whatever. They look like nice blokes, and if you don’t take this opportunity, you’ll regret it forever.”

Ellen gave them both a little push again. “Don’t stand here like the proverbial logs.. GO!”

Joey, who had slightly regained possession over her speech said, “if I look into those eyes from up close I’m soo gonna melt. I don’t know what to say, really I don’t. How do you approach a guy like that?”
She looked at Ellen. “I don’t have a clue! Do you?”

Ellen laughed. “After all the fanfics you’ve written? Surely there were some pick-up lines in one of those that you could use?”

“PICK-UP lines?” Aleks looked at her friend wide-eyed and shocked. “You ‘re bonkers woman….., pick-up lines indeed!
I barely have the guts to say good-morning to the guy. Pick-up lines, for crying out loud.”

“Well, good-morning wouldn’t cut it in this case,” reposted Kai, “since it’s three in the afternoon, you’d look pretty stupid if you told him that.”

“I’m not gonna say anything.” Stated Aleks firmly. “I’ll just drool from afar instead of making a total idiot out of myself stuttering in his face.”

Joey nodded agreeing. “Same here, I wouldn’t know what to say either.”

“Well, with a good pick-up line you’d make a smashing impression,” suggested Ellen. “Most of the time they’re probably asked for autographs and/or hugs and/or pictures. Be original and make a lasting impression.”

“Original” grinned Kai, “sure, let’s be original here. What do you suggest? Hi, I’ve been sent by my friends over there to be original with you?”

Joey and Aleks roared with laughter. “Yeah, you tell them that if you dare. Woman, you’re scared shitless too. No way will you walk over there to talk to those guys.”

Ellen glanced at her friends from under her dark eyebrows and slowly asked “is that a dare ladies? Because I can never pass up a good dare, you know that.
And aren’t the three of you forgetting a little fact? Who walked over to Craig and asked him for a picture? And then asked him to sign it with all your names on it? That was me, if I’m not mistaken.”

As struck by lightening the three girls looked at each other.
“She’s right you know,” admitted Joey, “she did.”

Aleks uttered a nervous giggle. “You’re not going to go over there are you?”

“She’s actually going to try to talk to them.” Kai’s eyes twinkled at the prospect. “Go woman!”
She whispered. “Just look at is as a try-out, because next time when we accidentally run into Karl, I’m gonna demand that you do the same.”

Ellen raised her chin. No way would she back out although her heart was pounding and her blood-pressure had rocketed sky-high. Shees woman.. she thought to herself, what have you gotten yourself into. Stay calm. You can do this. Remember these are just the hobbits. Even though Lij is pretty gorgeous, it’s not Orlando you’re facing. She knew all to well that if he were there too, she would never have mustered the nerve to talk to them. Or at least she didn’t think so. Her knees were buckling at the mere thought.

Her mind was racing, weighing several possible lines to open up a conversation, while her feet slowly took her in the direction of the group of bodyguards, with in the centre the two men, who were still laughing and talking to each other.

“Oh no.. she’s going to do it” mumbled Aleks to Kai and Joey. “She’s really going over to them. Bloody hell!”

Ellen had covered the distance between her friends and Elijah and Dom halfway when suddenly…..

Chapter 5. Fiction or reality?

“ELLEN!! ANGEL, DARLING, BABY!!” The cheerful voice of a man thundered through the hall.
Ellen, but also Aleks, Joey and Kai turned into the direction of the interruption.

Across the hall a dashing, young man ran towards them. He was wearing a pilot’s uniform and held his uniform-cap in one hand, a stack of papers in the other.

Joey, Aleks and Kai glanced at him appreciatively. From his wavy, dark hair to his running feet he was gorgeous. Well-built, broad shouldered, and in a uniform that fitted him like a glove. His face, with dark eyes, chiselled cheekbones, and inviting lips, was clean-shaven, very handsome and sported smile that lit up the room.

He crashed into Ellen, who stood flabbergasted.

“Honeybee!!! Fancy running into you here!”
He grabbed her, pulled her in his arms and hugged her tight, kissing her on both cheeks.

“Oh, woman, you still taste like cherries and I haven’t seen you in soooo long!”

He placed a firm kiss on her lips and once again pressed her against his chest.

“Apple of my eye, where have you been hiding yourself?”

“Who the heck is that?” whispered Aleks from the corner of her mouth to Joey.
“And what’s with his obsession for fruit anyway?”

Kai frowned and suddenly something seemed to dawn upon her, “But.. but that’s.. that’s..” she stuttered.
She poked Joey in her side “you know.. from that fic…!”

Joey’s face lit up like the return of the sun after a full eclipse. “NOOO!.. that can’t be!”

Aleks, who was still in the dark, looked from Joey to Kai and back, “come on you guys.. what do you mean, who do you mean. Who IS this guy?”

In the meantime the whole commotion had drawn the attention of a lot of people in the vicinity. The group of bodyguards that was surrounding Elijah and Dom had turned around in a defensive posture, thinking that the loud exclamations had been intended for the celebrities they were supposed guard.

And in turn, their actions had interrupted Elijah and Dom’s conversation.
They were now both looking at the sight of Ellen, who, looking a bit shaken by the entire thing, was being thoroughly embraced by the handsome pilot.

Kai, Aleks and Joey hurried towards their friend, to see what the hell this was all about, but before they could reach her another unexpected thing happened.

From the corner of her eye Joey, who had been ogling Elijah right through the whole situation, noticed that he made a gesture to one of his companions.

A sturdy man detached himself of the group and started to walk over to Ellen, with Elijah in tow.
He put a sheer enormous hand on the pilot’s shoulder and asked “is this man bothering you ma’am?”

The good-looking man in the uniform turned around and looked up at the huge bodyguard, swallowed once and said in a high-pitched voice, “Bothering….? Bothering..? I’m not bothering her.. Ellen.. explain to this…..” he eyed the bodyguard from top to toe. “..dastardly man that I’m not bothering you!”

Ellen, who had looked amazed at first, was now laughing her head off. “DAVID!! You NUT!”

“No sir,” she turned to the bodyguard. “He’s not bothering me, he’s a bit weird but very harmless, I assure you.”

By now Aleks, Joey and Kai had turned up behind her and Joey whispered in her ear, “David?? As in THE David from..?”

Ellen grinned. “The very same. Darlings,” she turned around to her friends. “Let me introduce you to David Ellery. Pilot extraordinaire of IFF. And a good friend of mine.”

Aleks’ jaws dropped. “David?? As in the David from your fic? He exists? Like … he’s real?”

David looked at Ellen a bit shocked.

“Fic? What fic? Did you WRITE about me? But darling.. that’s amazing, why didn’t you tell me? I feel honoured indeed!”

He turned towards the three girls. “Of course I’m real darlings, as real as can be. Who are these lovely creatures Ellen? Friends of yours?”
He threw them a flirting glance. “And such pretty ones too.”

Ellen giggled. “Brace yourselves girls. David’s on the prowl.”

Kai pulled at her sleeve and brought her mouth close to her ears “Ellen, wasn’t he??”
But her voice wasn’t low enough and Joey picked up her words. She threw her a wide grin “Yeah, he was, at least in the fic he was.”

David, with his quick mind, had figured it out already “and in real life too, my darlings, but still, one cannot blame a man for looking eh..?”

By that time Elijah, following his bodyguard, who was now standing a bit to the side, not knowing what to do, had reached them.

Aleks noticed that Dom, curious about what was happening, also walked over, and she felt a shiver of anticipation crawl down her spine.
“So everything is in order ma’m?” asked Elijah politely. “It seemed like a hairy situation, so I thought it best to take some action.”

Ellen turned towards him and threw him a wide smile. Her eyes twinkled at the sight of Joey who was pale as a sheet but holding her own, even though Elijah was standing now only inches away from her.

“And lend me your bodyguard? Thank you sir, but everything is fine. This, rather outgoing personality, is an old friend of mine, but I’m really grateful for your concern and help.”
She smiled again while a devious little plan entered her mind.

“May I offer you a cup of coffee as reward for your chivalrous intervention?” She asked flat-out.

Joey nearly fainted. The idea of having coffee with this man was more than she could bear. To sit at a table knee to knee with him, staring in those amazing blue eyes over the rim of a coffee-cup was like a dream come true. She felt more than she saw that Kai was relishing the entire situation, grinning like mad in the background.

By now Dom had entered the circle of the little group and the entire contingent of bodyguards stood around them, shielding them from the public.

“Lij?!” His slightly rusty voice held a question. “What’s going on man?”

Elijah flicked him a one-sided grin and said. “I’ve just been accused of chivalrous intervention by this lovely lady here.”

Dom roared with laughter. “You? and chivalrous intervention? No way.. devious intent is more like it.”

He looked at Aleks and grinned at her. She felt her knees go jello on her and fumbled with the handle of her bag.

““Ello,” his lopsided grin made her gasp for air. “And who do we have ‘ere?”

His smile was intended for her alone, and she felt a light sensation enter her brain.

“What’s yer name?”

Completely at a loss for words, Aleks could do nothing but stare. “Yer name?” Dom insisted “Come on, don’t be shy, I’m not THAT goodlooking. Surely a lovely girl like you has a name.”
His efforts to ease her suffering were only adding to the situation.

“My.. my.. I’m.. I mean..” there were no coherent words forming in her mind.

His piercing blue eyes under the dark, bushy eyebrows glistened, his cheeky smile deepened and Aleks felt her blood flow to her head while a deep red coloured her cheeks.

“So you lost yer tongue.” He teased. “Feeling a bit uneasy around us?”

“No, yes, uhmm no.” she stuttered.

He grinned again. Then he suddenly turned towards Kai, who was laughing her head off at the entire situation.

Her blonde curls danced at the rhythm of her suppressed giggles.

Dom threw her a sideways glance, tilted his head and said. “And what are you laughing about beautiful? Something sure seems funny to you, or did you loose your tongue also?”

Kai grinned and said. “No mate, not me, not ever.”

“Ahh,” Dom’s face lit up. “From down under ain’t ya? Good to meet ya! T’as been a long time since I heard that accent.”

Joey turned her head and declared. “Not lost her tongue? Ha!, Just you wait, when Kaizer meets the Urbanite you won’t hear a squeak from her, no siree, she’ll be in puddles on the floor when that happens.”

Dom nearly folded double. “The urbanite! OH man.. that’s a good one, haven’t heard that one before. Soo, you’re into the Karl aren’t you?”

Kai blushed and hid her eyes under the rim of her black hat.

Dom lowered his head and tried to peek under it. “Don’t you worry sweetheart, yer secret is safe with me, I won’t tell him.”

Elijah, who had been talking to Ellen and David, turned away the moment he heard Joey’s remark.

His mesmerizing eyes were fixed upon her face. From this close she could clearly see the circle of darker blue around the iris, and there seemed to be specks of silver dancing in its depths.
Unable to move she could just stare. He leaned towards her not wanting to disturb the conversation between Ellen and David and asked “are you guys coming or going?”

She caught a whiff of his scent and felt her knees go weak again, but managed to utter “we’re trying to get going actually.”

Elijah smiled, and said “going? Going where? On holiday?”

“No,” Joey returned, “not holiday, we’re on our way to Atlanta actually.”

Somehow she couldn’t bring herself to admitting that they were going to a LOTR convention, that she would have loved to meet him, that she never thought there would be the slightest change to even talk to him.

Uttering coherent words seemed to be completely impossible now that his eyes were gazing in hers. She felt her mouth turn dry when he moved even closer and said. “Hey, that’s a coincidence, so are we.”

As if I didn’t know, you guys are the main attraction of the convention she thought, but she didn’t dare say it out loud.

He continued. “But we still have to wait a little while, our plane is not yet boarding.”

“Well,” he turned towards the rest of the group. “Are we going to be standing around here, or are we going to get that cup of coffee that this charming lady over here so graciously offered?”

Re: :)
Chapter 6. Don’t rain on my parade.

It turned out to be quite a procession when they headed for the coffee-corner. The bodyguards parted the crowds like the swells of the red sea to make way for Elijah and Dom.
Aleks, Joey, Kai were marching in their wake and the rear was formed by Ellen and David. He had his arm linked with Ellen and was chatting away, pulling her close with every third word.

Reaching the oasis for coffee-drinkers turned out to be a tricky expedition to say the least. Every fifth step they took they were interrupted by yet another group of crazed fan-girls, and although the bodyguards did their best to keep the group on track, Elijah and Dom, as usual, were not being cooperative and kept dodging the guards’ attempts to keep the girls at bay.
Both men were signing autographs left and right, answering the idiotic questions they were asked, and smiled to everyone.

Joey, Aleks and Kai eyed the whole commotion from the back of the parade. Kai seemed to have a field day and was grinning from underneath the rim of her hat. Something seemed to amuse her tremendously and there was a bounce in her stride that clearly showed that she was up to something when all of a sudden a blonde, longhaired girl broke through the line the bodyguards maintained around the ex-hobbits, and nearly jumped into Dom’s arms.
“DOM! DOM! She shouted at the top of her longs. I love you! I want to have your babies! Pleaaaase marry me?”

Poor Dom, his hearing was momentarily impaired by her high pitched shrieks and he carefully peeled her off his body. He held her hands and smiled an endearing smile. “Ever so kind, my girl, but I respectfully have to decline. Can I make you happy with an autograph instead?” He pulled out his pen and scribbled something on a piece of paper the girl was holding.

Apparently that was just as satisfactory as a proposal to marriage, because the girl walked away, shouting happily to her friends: “he wrote “lots of love” underneath!”

But the breach in the security made it possible for other girls to come closer and weird questions, stupid remarks and overall silliness flew threw the air. “Oh my god, his eyes really are that blue! I wonder where they have their feet! Never realized he was that short! Elijah, can I have a kiss? Dom, what’s your favourite colour?”

Aleks whispered to Joey from the corner of her mouth “Can you believe this?” She put up a high girly voice “where do they have their feet…? What about in their shoes, moron! And his favourite colour.. Don’t they know anything? Blue of course!”
She grumbled “All those silly girls with their silly questions…. Don’t these guys grow tired of all that shis?”

“They probably do” answered Joey, who was throwing annoyed glances to yet another pack of girls that was walking along with them giggling and whispering.
One of them suddenly saw her chance to burst through the line of guards and ran towards Elijah. When she was right in front of him she lifted up her shirt and handed the flabbergasted Elijah a black marker.

“Right here please” she said, pointing to her stomach.

Elijah grinned at Dom and slightly bent over, ready to put his mark on the girls tanned skin, when suddenly Joey strode forwards and forcefully bumped into her back.

The marker went astray and drew a thick, black line across her bellybutton and made her suddenly look like the victim of a magician who never got a grip on the trick of the severed lady.

Elijah looked shocked and tried to apologize to the girl, but Dom was in fits of laughter.
The girl threw an astonished look at her stomach, and then lowered her shirt.

Aleks and Kai, who had been grinning from behind at Joey’s move, saw her grab a piece of paper from the hands of another girl.

“Ohhh! I’m sooo sorry!” said Joey. “Here!”
She handed the girl the piece of paper.
“Flat surfaces are soo much easier to write on you know…”

Elijah, glad that he got saved from an embarrassing situation, threw her an appreciative glance and signed the piece of paper.

After what seemed to take ages they finally made it to the coffee-corner. “Well, finally” sighed Kai, “I thought that would take forever.”

The room was half empty when they entered, but nearly filled to the brim when the entire entourage made their way in to occupy the various tables.

Ellen pulled on Kai’s sleeve. “Kaizer darling, David has got something to ask me, he says he might be able to pull some strings to get us on an earlier flight. I’m gonna go with him and see what he’s up to. Go grab some coffee with the boys and I’ll catch up with you guys later ok?”

“Can we only grab coffee? Too bad.” grinned Joey, who was listening in.

Ellen smirked. “Are you planning on grabbing something else woman?”

“Naaah..” said Aleks, “we’ll leave the grabbing for now, and go for coffee and tea instead.” She turned to Kai, “and Milo for you, that is if we can score any in the flat countries.”

Kai looked suddenly very enthusiastic and tried to find out where Elijah and Dom had wandered off to.
They had already successfully overpowered a table and were discussing the issue of ordering drinks with the waitress. Elijah spotted them and waived them over, “heey, get overhere, we found a nice table. Grab a chair and join us!”

“OMG. There’s that grabbing thing again,” sighed Aleks. “No grabbing today ladies, ya hear!”

Joey waved back at Elijah and yelled “we’ll be right there” and Kai added, “warning! There will be major grabbing going on in a second, mates!”

Dom chuckled and made wide-armed gestures at the waitress. Apparently he was trying to make a point but was in no way making any progress.

Ellen turned around and took David’s arm again, “I’ll be right back darlings, order me some coffee alright?”

David threw a flirting glance at the three other girls and said, “Sweethearts, I’m gonna abduct this sexy lady, so you better not wait up for her.”

Ellen yanked his arm and stated, “stop with the bragging, man, if you had me alone you wouldn’t even know what to do with me. Come on easy lover, and tell me about this plan of yours.”

“Of course, oh ye sexy one,” grinned David and turned to Aleks, Kai and Joey. “I’m not gonna say goodbye to you darlings, because this plan of mine concerns you too. I’ll be back.”

“Stop threatening my friends,” grinned Ellen and pulled him to the door of the coffee-corner.
The three girls watched them leave. David leaned over to Ellen and kissed her on her cheek once more. A few girls who were just entering the room eyed the handsome pilot from top to toe and threw Ellen a jealous look.
“If only they knew,” grinned Joey.

Chapter 7. The necessity of coffee-breaks

Aleks poked her in the back. “Come on.. Mr. blue eyes is sitting right overthere.
And we don’t want to keep him waiting now do we?”

“Ohh, you’re a fine one to talk …”countered Joey “.. as if you aren’t dying to sit next to the Dommeh.”

Aleks blushed. The mere thought of sitting at the same table, having a conversation with him seemed to freeze her mind. A whirlwind of butterflies migrated from her stomach to her head when she saw Dom smile at her, gesturing her to sit beside him.

After playing some musical chairs they all found a seat around the rather small, round table while the waitress appeared with a large tray.
Joey and Elijah both had coffee and Aleks and Dom were looking at a hot, steaming cup of tea.

Elijah gave Kai an apologetic look. “Sorry, I don’t think they serve that drink you like so much around here. At least she..” he pointed at the waitress, “has never heard of it.”

“That’s alright mate,” Kai waived his apologies into thin air. “I’ll see what I can do. Maybe they need a native Aussie to negotiate the delivery of a supply of Milo.”

She walked over to the counter and entered into an explanation the size of a United Nations speech with the waitress, laying out the whereabouts, backgrounds and characteristics of hot Milo, while the group back at the table snickered at the dazed look on the face of the poor waitress.

The round table enabled them all to sit side by side. So Joey found herself sitting next to Elijah. She watched his hands with the long fingers stirring his coffee, adding the lumps of sugar and a drop of milk.
Somehow these ordinary, daily routines seemed very intricate and fascinating, now that it were his hands manoeuvering the spoon and his blue eyes that were closed when he brought the cup to his lips to take a sip, carefully trying the hot liquid.

A shiver travelled down her spine when she saw him swallow and put the cup back down, his lips slightly moist from the hot coffee.

Her mind seemed empty when suddenly, like a flash of lightening, the thought searched through her brain he’s so close, I could easily bend over and taste the coffee from his lips.

She couldn’t seem to tear her eyes away from his mouth when, as in slow motion, he turned his head towards her and a warm smile curled around the corners of his lips.

He looked at her and really liked what he saw. A girl with glittering eyes, a generous mouth and soft blonde hair.
There was character and determination in the lines of her face.
Oh, he had bloody well noticed the stunt she’d pulled with the girl down the hall and he realized that he loved her spunk. He had enjoyed seeing that she didn’t seem to be soo indifferent as she tried to be.

And now he realized she was looking at his lips. What was she thinking? Was there something between his teeth?

He took another sip of his hot coffee and leaned over to her. “I didn’t catch your name…” he tried to open the conversation.

“That’s because I haven’t given my name yet” Joey countered.

His sly grin twinkled in his eyes. “I see,” he said. “Well would you mind giving it now, or is it to remain a secret?”

“Oh, it’s no secret” she tried to sound nonchalant but a big lump was forming in her stomach. The sheer impossibility of the situation suddenly shook her. Here she was, sitting in an airport coffeecorner, looking in the eyes of the one person she’d never thought she’d meet.

Aleks, who had been throwing her a slightly shocked look at her reply, now kicked her under the table, trying to signal her to cool it.
Unfortunately, her aim was waay off and she ended up kicking Dom’s knee.

“Ouch” he moaned and directed his gaze to Elijah. “Now what did I do? I never said a word!!”

Elijah tore his eyes away from Joey and lifted his eyebrows “what??”

“You kicked me!” Accused Dom. “And hard too! What’s wrong with you man? I never even looked at the woman! Not that I would mind though,” he grinned and blinked at Joey.

“Kicked you?? Shees, what did they pour in that tea of yours? I never laid a hand on you, you idiot.” Lij looked annoyed.

“No, not a hand.. but I damned well nearly had your foot in my privates” grumbled Dom, and rubbed his knee under the table.

“Bloody hell dude, you’re as insane as ever,” concluded Elijah. “I never touched you, I’ve never had nor ever will have the desire to even go near your privates.”

Dom raised one eyebrow and prepaired himself for a spiffy reply when his eyes fell on Aleks’ face, who had turned bright red.
The fire in his eyes dimmed to a soft glow when he asked “what’s wrong love, tea too hot?”

“Nnnooo” answered Aleks, “the tea is fine, it’s just.. well..I kicked you.. but I never meant to, and certainly not.. there.”
Her cheeks seemed to get flushed even more.

“Why did you kick me then,” Dom wanted to know. “What did I do to deserve that, darling?”

He looked at Aleks and found her adorable. She seemed to be a bit uncomfortable around him and some part of him was dying to find out if it was he or the celebrity thing that made her soo jumpy.
He took an even closer look and found that her brown eyes had a soft, warm glow and that her lips were impeccably curved.

“Ohh.. you did nothing, really” Aleks felt miserable. “I wasn’t aiming at you in the first place. I meant to kick Joey. I’m sorry Mr. Monaghan” She looked down to the surface of the table.

“Dom” said Dom.. “the name is DOM!”

“I’m sorry Dom” Aleks looked up, only to meet his kind eyes under furrowed brows.
He wasn’t teasing this time, he bend over and a gentle smile curled his lips.

Aleks felt her heart drop in her stomach as she saw him come closer, and closer still, until she could see her reflection in his eyes. What was he going to do? Was he about to kiss her?

Nervously she bit her lower lip when suddenly he whispered “you haven’t finished your tea, you know that? And there’s no need to feel so nervous around us, darling. We’re only human.”
He placed his warm hand ontop of hers.

Aleks could feel the softness of his palm when he softly squeezed. Hot and cold shivers ran up and down her spine like a nest of migrating mice. He was holding her hand, the man who had played around her dreams for such a long time was now sitting next to her, holding her hand.
He shoved his chair a little closer to hers and she could feel the pressure of his thigh against hers, feel the warmth through the fabric of his jeans against her skin.
He leaned even closer when a shrieking sound shattered the moment.

Re: :)
Chapter 8. Close encounters of the middle-earth kind

The shrill sound of a beeping cell phone made all four reach for their respective pockets and purses at the same time Kai came back.
She was laughing her head off at the sight of all four people heading simultaneously for their communicative contraptions.
“You should see this, really..” she exclaimed, “have you studied this move or is it just a random thing?”

With sheepish smiles all four retracted their hands from pant-, coatpocket and purses.
The shrieking sound continued.

“Well isn’t one of you being hailed?” Kai informed “and might it not be a good idea if that particular person answered it and put a stop to this racket?” she added sarcastically.

Dom nudged Aleks, “It’s your purse that’s making the noises..” he whispered.

Aleks looked shocked and peeked under the table “Oh man..” she said, “you’re right.”
She dug deep in the innards of her purse and extracted a blue cellphone.
“Sorry about that” she excused herself, pressed the answer button and put the phone to her ear.

But the shrill sound continued.
Confused Aleks looked at her phone and then shook it, but the ringing continued.

They were now getting the attention of everyone in the entire coffee-corner. Heads were turned and giggles were smothered.

Aleks’ cheeks began to flush again when she shook the thingy again and mumbled “I don’t understand it, what’s wrong with this thing?”

“Polish brand I’m sure” teased Joey.

But Dom, perceptive as ever, now pushed Elijah. “It’s yours man!”

Lij immediately grabbed inside his coat-pocket and extracted a silver slink cell, ringing its head off.
“Imagine the odds of two phones having exactly the same ringtone” he said when he brought it to his ear. But the sound persisted.

“Bloody hell..” muttered Joey.. “now who’s phone is this..? Why don’t we all put these damned things on the table and play quartet.”

But it turned out to be the one of a man sitting at an adjacent table and all laughed their heads off.

Meanwhile Aleks had managed to get the conversation going with the person on the other end of her cell and her eyes lit up.

“It’s Elle, everybody!” she yelled “and she has the best of news. There has been a fire at her college and it’s burnt to a crisp. No no..” she nipped a fast remark by Joey in the bud, “that’s not the good news of course.. well it is in a way.. it means that her college will be closed for the next week and she will be able to make it afterall.”

“YAY!!”
“Thank heavens for lazy fireman!”
Both Joey and Kai were smiling from ear to ear.

Aleks talked into her phone again “….. yeah……. Did you hear? ……. We’re soo thrilled to finally meet you…… noo. Ellen’s not here… she’s talking to David…… David who? Don’t you remember, from the fic…. Yeah he’s real! Go figure that, wonder what else is real that she wrote about and told us it was fiction…. Soo.. we’ll meet you at … no, don’t know the time of arrival yet… the plane was overbooked, they rebooked us on tomorrow’s flight…… You will meet us there??? OH MAN!!! That’s sooo great!”

Joey and Kai shoved each other, “oh Jozer, I can’t wait to meet her, this will be such a wonderful time mate.”

Joey was grinning and nodding, until Dom caught her eye.
“Who’s that on the phone?” he wanted to know, “and why are you two grinning like a cat that just found the cream?”

“That’s Elle, a friend of ours,” Joey explained. “And we just found out that she’s going to the same event that we’re going to, although it looked like she couldn’t make it at first.
AND she’s gonna pick us up at the airport I think.”
She smiled. “Awesome, all of us together for the first time. Now all we need is Carly to attend. I soo hope she’s gonna be able to make it.”

“And MON!” added Kai. “I hope that that incredible husband of hers will be available to take care of things at home so she can come too. It would be great to see all of us rove the city.”

“Alrighty.. “Aleks was still talking to Elle. “As soon as I know our arrival-time I’ll call you…. yeah, I have your number, don’t worry….” She grinned, “I can’t wait either…. See you soon darling.” She hung up.
"Well guys.. did you get all that?”

“Sure did” smiled both Kai and Joey “this will be the best time yet.”

Elijah had turned around slightly not to disturb the conversation going on but now faced the rest of the group.
He was still talking to whoever called him. “Yeah.. we’re having coffee and tea right now… well I’m having the coffee and Dom is having the tea as usual, that nut… Where are you now?.. Noo we’re in the coffee corner with some extremely pleasant company…” He winked at Joey. “No, we still have to wait a few more hours, the plane won’t leave until 8 this evening…. Yeah., I know it sucks but it can’t be helped dude…… well why did you decide to transfer in Amsterdam then……ahh.. I see.. well much obliged.. see you dude..” he put down the phone.
Kai stood up, “be right back mates, just gonna get my order.”

The rest of them saw her walk over to the counter and return with a cup of steaming hot something.
When she approached the table Joey grinned “Got your precious Milo have you?”

“Well the next best thing according to the waitress.” Kai threw an inquisitive glance at the substance in the cup. “She insists that it’s the Dutch equivalent of Milo,” Kai looked up, “but I cannot for the life of me imagine that this flat stamp of a country can produce something that comes even close to Milo.”

Aleks grinned, “Don’t let Ellen hear ya.”

Kaizer smiled, “she’s a dear, but they don’t appreciate a good Milo here… or the honourable game of football either.”

“OMG” moaned Joey “.. there she goes with them blacks again…”

“Football??” Dom perked his ears “You’re into football, woman?”

Kai grinned from ear to ear “Dedicated All Blacks fan here Mr Monaghan…”

“Oh wow!” Dom smiled, “I’ve seen them play when we were down south” he pushed Lij, “remember man.. twas a great day…”

“Because the Blacks won of course” said a haughty Kai.

“Well.. actually they lost,” chuckeled Lij, “to the Wallabies.”

“Noooo..” Kai heaved a bigh sigh, “that must have been the time when Dough Howlett was injured, with him in play they would have won for sure!”

Aleks pushed Dom “Please don’t start her up” she pleaded.
Dom looked sideways and smiled directly into her eyes. “You don’t like football..?”

“Not particularly no” admitted Aleks.

“Ahh.. but then you haven’t seen the right games. Remember me to take you to a game some time, we’ll have a blast.”

A warm glow came alive in Aleks’ chest. He would like to see her again.. he so much as invited her for another gettogether. Unaware of the fact that her happiness ignited a mesmerizing golden fire in her eyes she smiled. “I would love that.”

Lij shoved Joey. “What about you, would you like to see a game too? “

“With Dom and Aleks..? Not necessarily so” shrugged Joey.

“No you little minx” reposted Lij, “with me.. when we’re in the States, because that’s were you girls are heading too, right?”

“Yeaaaah..” answered Joey, who definitely didn’t want to sound eager, although the thought of spending a night at a game with Lij sounded pretty appealing.

little devil thought Lij and looked into her evasive eyes. She wants to go but sure as hell would never admit it. Man, I love it.
He leaned over, the hypnotizing blue of his eyes catching the incoming rays of the afternoonsun. “Well?” He asked “Do you or don’t you?”

“Do I what?” Said Joey, who looked back, careful not to show her feelings but thinking how blue can eyes get anyway….

“Come with me to a game of football” replied Lij patiently. “I would really like you to come you know..”

“Ohh.. to enlighten me about the joys of fellows fighting over a weird sized ball..” smirked Joey.

“No you little tease” Lij caved in at the sight of her smile. “Because I like your company. There.. satisfied?”

Joey heaved an invisible sigh.. did he really say that.. that he liked her company?
“Oh very well alright then..” she made it sound like she was granting him a wish. “I’ll go with you to a game.”

Kai, who had put down the tray, had picked up the cup and had tried a sip of the hot substance inside..
“Mhhmmmm..” she mumbled, “not as bad as I thought…”

She brought the cup back to her lips again and closed her eyes, savouring the rich warm taste when suddenly she heard Dom say “well finally.. that took you long enough…”

She opened her eyes and glanced from under the rim of her hat.
One look was enough, she froze on the spot. Two deep brown eyes in a incredibly handsome face pierced into hers and a warm, slightly rusty, sexy voice asked. “Is that Milo I’m smelling….?”
It was as if her heart fell between her legs.

Re: :)
Chapter 9. Of drinks and other things

She swallowed hard and slowly turned around only to be met by the most piercing brown eyes she’d ever come across.
His magnetism in real life was far greater than that on the silver screen. Her gaze darted from his tousled, dark hair, across the stubble on his face, down to his bleached jeans. The grey t-shirt he was wearing stretched across his broad chest, outlining every muscle.

“I swear, I can smell a cup of Milo a mile across,” his grin seemed only for her and made her feel weak in the knees. “Did you get that for me, love?”
The twinkle in his eyes sent the others in the room far off into a haze, as the world seemed to revolve only around her and him and the steaming cup of Milo in between.

“KARL!” Both Elijah and Dom roared with laughter. “Stop working that magic on that poor woman man, and get you ass over here.”

Karl winked at Kai, and a devious smile curled his lips. “Later” he mouthed and turned towards the table.

“Ahh ye hobbit-dudes,” his grin grew wider. “No matter where those feet of yours drag you, I will always find you behind a table laden with food and surrounded by lovely females.”

“Feet,” muttered Elijah. “As always hung up on the feet. Mind your own pins man.”
He glanced at Karl’s lower half and stuck his tongue in his cheek. “WHAT in blazes are those you’re wearing?!”

Dom took a nosedive and peeked around the corner of the table to see what the commotion was about.
When he returned to the level world his face was red from laughter.
On Karl’s feet were purple sneakers!

“OH dude..!” he gasped. “How the hell did you get those through customs?”

Karl grinned confidently. “Didn’t make it through customs you Scottish fool. I’m changing planes here and in this fly-by-heaven you don’t have to clear customs when you’re in transit.”

“Changing planes?” wanted Elijah to know, “if you’re only changing planes here, what the heck took those feet of yours this long to drag you here? Don’t tell me you’ve been charming the pants of the ladies around here too!”

“Naaah.” reposted Dom. “It’s not the girls who get their pants charmed off. Dear Karl overhere is the grandmaster of the skill of pantsdropping, Lij, you know that.”

“Oh yeah, I remember,” grinned Elijah. He looked at Kai who had suddenly gotten awfully red in the face. “And so does she.” He pointed to Kai, who was grinning like mad with a hopeful gleam in her eyes at the prospect of Karl dropping pants in the nearby future

All gazes turned to poor Kai now. Elijah and Dom were grinning, while Aleks and Joey had huge questionmarks written all over their faces.
Karl threw her a sideways “I dare you” glance.
Kai, who definitely remembered the story about Karl dropping his pants in front of a huge crowd, after he was, for the millionths time, asked if he wore boxers or briefs, lowered her eyes and chuckled behind the rim of her hat.
“I remember yeah..” she said and looked at Aleks and Joey. Joey shrugged her an I’llbedamnedifIknow shrug but Kai grinned and said “I’ll spare him the embarrassment for now, after all he’s only just met us, I’ll tell you girls later.”

“Thank you love, much obliged” Karl slightly declined his head “Fair play indeed!”
Again he burned his fiery eyes in hers and she felt a shiver go down her spine.

“Ahh” came Elijah, “he’s off the hook for now. Too bad. Oh well, there will always be second chances.”

“Or thirds” nodded Dom. “Come Karlman, take a seat, are you on the same flight out as we are?”

Karl dropped his long limbs on the seat next to Dom and pulled up a chair from the empty table next to them. He patted the seat and said to Kai. “Sit here love, and tell me where you whipped up that Milo.”
He turned to Elijah and said, “well, if you lot are flying out with the 8 o’clock plane yep, I’m with you guys. But what’s the story behind all these lovelies here.”

He eyed the group around the table. His gaze lingered on Aleks, who suddenly felt a bit wheezy in her stomach. His eyes seemed to burn a hole in her heart, so intense, so hot. His sly grin made her feel warm inside.

“What’s your name love?” All of a sudden Aleks realized that Dom’s arm was suddenly resting on the back of her seat.

“This is Aleks,” he answered for her and shoved a little closer.
His thigh was now positively resting against the entire length of her leg, she could feel the warmth of his skin through the fabric. A warm glow overtook her cheeks when Karl raised his eyebrows.

“And she has no voice of her own.” His rusty voice seemed to hide the pun.

“Yes, of course I have,” she said with a tremble in her voice. It was not the Karl-effect that made her feel weak anymore, but the nearness of Dom.

“Ahh adorable.” Karl’s voice sounded warm before he turned his eyes to Joey. “And who might this be?”

“Joey,” she answered quickly, slightly worried that Elijah would pull the same protectiveness on her as Dom displayed towards Aleks. No way in hell would she want this Mr. Charm-on-legs to get the idea that she was incapable of handling her own affairs.

“Joey?” The surprise in Karl’s voice was clear.. “as in the kangaroo way?”

“Well I’m nothing like any kangaroo you’ll ever come across, that’s for sure” reposted Joey, “don’t make the mistake of thinking I’m a harmless jump-around.”

A one-sided grin and a teasing fire were lit in Karl’s eyes. “Don’t worry love, I will never make that mistake, you’re a touch-me-not, that’s for sure. Mind you, you and I are gonna have lots of fun together.”

Elijah’s deep blue eyes suddenly turned into a steely glare.
He didn’t say a word, because by now he had fully realized that Joey was not the girl for sweettalk and fuzzy-wuzzyness.
But to sit back and watch Karl moving in on what he considered his territory was not something he would allow without a fight.
The piercing blue crossed blades with the magnetic brown.

Kai thought they look like two stallions, eying each other before the attack, when suddenly Karl lent back and a knowing smile curled the corners of his lips.
He put his left arm behind Kai’s back and placed it on her chair. Every time her back brushed against his arm the sensation sent tingling sensations down her skin.

“It’s great to meet you all, darlings, and I’m real glad to be among hobbits once more.” His dazzling laugh embraced the whole table. “So are we all on the same flight or are the ladies here heading for another destiny?”

“No,” said Joey, “we’re on our way to the States too. Only our plane was overbooked so we have to wait till tomorrow before we can fly out.“

“And in the meantime you graciously offered to keep us company?” asked Karl.

“Yeah,” said Aleks, “Elijah helped us with what seemed to be an awkward situation and ….”

“… was offered a cup of coffee for my well behaved manners…” added Elijah.

Karl nearly folded double “You! well behaved manners? AHHH.. apparently these lovely ladies haven’t met the real Lij yet.” He roared with laughter.

Elijah looked a bit haughty. “I can be well behaved thankyouverymuch. Besides, the lady in question seemed to think so.”

“Ahh.. so there’s another beauty lurking about” concluded Karl. “Where is she hiding?”
he teasingly tried to peek under the table.

“Gone AWOL on us with another man for now” answered Dom. “Apparently the guy that seemed to bother her was an old friend.” The blank look in Karl’s eyes clearly showed that he didn’t understand one word of it all.

“Never mind.” Elijah jumped in. “It’s a long story. Can I get you a cup of something? It will be quite a while before we have to board our plane.”

“Ahh.. good plan” said Karl. “Well, a cup of whatever it is you’re having, sure sounds mighty fine” he turned to Kai. “Is that really Milo?”

Kai smiled. “Next best thing this country can come up with. Doesn’t taste too bad though.”
“Can I try?” He burned his penetrating gaze in her eyes again.

By now she was slowly getting used to the intense eyecontact that he seemed to make with the person he was talking to. It still sent weird sensations down her body, but now she was at least capable of returning his look.

“Sure..” she answered and pushed the cup in his direction before lifting it up to hand it to him.

Their fingers touched when he took it from her hands. He grabbed the cup with both hands and looked at her through the rising steam as he put his lips on the rim and tried a careful sip.

The warm, sweet, velvety substance glided down his throat and tickled his nostrils.
“Good stuff. No Milo, but good nonetheless.” He exchanged a knowing smile with Kai, who nodded.
“I’ll have one of those too, Lij.”

He handed the cup back to Kai, who couldn’t help but stare at the lightbrown milkmustache that had formed on his upperlip.

Karl’s eyes fell on her stare and he grinned “..did it again didn’t I?”

“Yeah..” she almost sighed, and before she even realized it, she had said it “.. can I? I mean.. may I?”

“You sure can and may” he lifted his chin a bit.

Stepping on the road of no return Kai stretched out her hand and gently wiped away the remaining Milo from his upper lip.
The stubble softly pricked her fingertips, his warm exhale caressed her hand and the warmth of his skin made her feel all tingly inside.
He opened his lips and for a spit second she thought he would kiss her fingertips, but then she felt him smile.

“Thanks honey. Can’t be walking about looking like a Milo addict now can I?” his lopsided smile was just for her.

“Heey guys.. got some great news!” The cheerful voice of Ellen came from behind.

Re: :)
Chapter 10. Will the fellowship ever be airborne?

She walked up to the group around the table with the handsome David right behind her. He was grinning all over, apparently very pleased with what was about to take place.

“Great news?” Beamed both Joey and Aleks. Kai was still mesmerized by the look of Karl, leaning back in his chair, wiping the rest of the Milo from his face with a handkerchief.

“Yeah darlings, the greatest” announced David. “You never know what kind of surprise I have in store for you all.”

Ellen shoved him. “Stop playing Santa Claus darling.
We’ve come up with a solution for our overbooked problem ladies. There’s no need to drag them suitcases back home, we’re leaving today after all.”

Joey grinned. “No need to overload the DVD-player once more, watching the same movies over and over again.”

“Ohh..” countered Kai “as if you would have problem with that..”

“Ok ok..” retaliated Joey “no need to face the roofed moped again then..”

“Heeey..” protested Ellen. “If you’d rather walk instead just lemme know, but stop insulting my car, woman!”

“She calls that a car” moaned Joey. “Kai, you’ve seen the thing.. gimme your verdict. Is that a car or a motorized bike? And let’s not begin to mention the way she drives it.. that that.. maniac on wheels.”

“Hehe” entered Aleks “and let’s not forget to mention her partiality for hedges.”

“OH YEAH!” Chimed Joey, “especially when that overactive imagination of hers thinks she spotted….”

“HEEEEY! Is this funny interlude finished by now? Because if you guys keep this up, I’m gonna fly to the States alone. After all, it was me who organized a way out of this waiting-game.”

“YOU organized?!” said David. “I thought it was ME who was the saviour of the damsels in distress here…” he put his arm around Ellen’s shoulders and softly yanked her back and forth.
“Stop taking all my credit baby.”

Elijah, Dom and Karl were grinning through the entire situation and Elijah’s smile widened when Joey, seemingly irritated, turned to David and asked “Well, what’s that solution then, don’t keep us in suspense any longer.”

“Yeah” entered Kai “even though you’re gorgeous, that doesn’t give you the right to keep us dangling like that.

“Ohh.. so you think he’s gorgeous eh..?” Karl said to her.

Kai was caught off guard “Well.. uh.. ahhh.. so are you of course.. I mean.. not that he’s more gorgeous than you…I mean.. oh man..” she suddenly stopped.

“Nooo..” teased Dom, who had intercepted several dreamy looks from Kai to Karl. “No way he’s more gorgeous than the Urbanite.”

“The Urbanite!” Karl looked up and started laughing. “Who the hell dreamt that up? You??” he looked at Kai.

“No no..” she stammered helplessly, caught in the fiery glow of his dark eyes.

“Yes she did.” said helpful Dom, and he suddenly looked sideways to Aleks. “Did you just push me?”

“Yes, as a matter of fact, I did” said Aleks who was feeling more comfortable around him every minute.

“And did you mean to?” wanted Dom to know.

“Definitely!” grinned Aleks.

“Well, your aim certainly has improved then” concluded Dom. “But what’s with the pushing darling.. unless it’s because you like to touch me.”

Ellen swallowed. She knew her Aleks, and this cheeky behaviour of Dom might make her feel uncomfortable all over again. But, as usual, Aleks surprised her with her wits.

“Well, actually I do” Aleks reposted. “But that’s beside the point here. I was shoving you to tell you to be nice.”

“Be NICE??” grinned Dom. “That’s NOT in my nature.”

“Sure it is,” said Aleks with a loving yet teasing smile. “You just need to be taught how.”

“Ahh.. and you’re volunteering?” wanted Dom to know.

“I might..” said Aleks with a mysterious smile, “but for now, be nice to my friend Kai, or you’ll have me to answer too.”

“Oh my” said Joey. “Attack of the polish avengers. Beware Dom, she’s dangerous when provoked.”

That was a chance Elijah couldn’t pass up “And you, are you dangerous when provoked?” he whispered and worked the magic of his dazzling eyes on her.

“Stop throwing me those baby-blues Mr. Wood. I’m immune.” She retaliated. “And yes, I’m extremely dangerous when provoked, don’t try it.. you might get burnt in the process.”

“Maybe I would like to get burnt every once in a while.” he said without regret.

“Will you two lovebirds cut it out” interfered Ellen. “We’ve been offered a free ride on a private jet, you guys.”

“Private jet?”

“Offered?”

“Free ride?”

Voices came from everywhere.

“What?.. how?.. where..?”

“Well, I told you guys that I worked for an international fragrance company .. and that the company has a private jet.. well David is the pilot of that jet.. and it so happens that he has to fly to the States.. Now, he has graciously offered to alter his flight schedule and will happily take us along to Atlanta.
David..” Ellen gestured to the good-looking guy who had been standing next to her enjoying the situation unfolding in front of his eyes.

“Yep, it’s true.. I was supposed to go to New York. But I’ve got plenty of time and my schedule easily allows me to make a stop at Atlanta, so I can take you guys there. I’ve already submitted my altered flight route and we can leave within the next hour.”

Re: Chapter 11 is UP!!!
Chapter 11. A question of destination.

“WHAT?!!! OMG!.. AWESOME!.. We’re gonna go by private jet! THANK YOU!”
The exclamations of joy and gratitude flew over the table until Ellen suddenly noticed a look of disappointment in the eyes of the guys and the glint of a thought in Elijah’s.

“What’s wrong guys?” she asked. It was Karl who answered. “Sheees.. private jet.. and within the hour. That’s too bad. We, and I think I speak for the rest of us also, would have liked to spent some more time with all of you.” In his eyes the disappointment was obvious.

“Atlanta….” said Elijah with a thoughtful tone in this voice. “Atlanta eh?
So you girls are going to Atlanta……”

"That's three times" reposted Joey with a sideways glance. "We're only going once you know. And what's so special about that?” Suddenly she clapped her hand before her mouth.

“Nothing…” said Lij with a knowing grin. “Only that we’re going to Atlanta too.”

“With a commercial flight” added Dom.

“At 8 this evening.” Complimented Karl.

"What a coincidence, don't you think?" A knowing smile curled around Elijah's perfect lips while he looked at Joey. "Fancy all of us going to Atlanta...." He pushed Dom and Karl. "Did you hear that guys, the girls are going to Atlanta too..."

"Yeah, I heard" said Karl, who still didn't get it. "Sooo? Is there a law against women going to Atlanta?"

But in Dom's eyes a glint of understanding was lit. "Ohhhhh!" he said and looked deep in Alek's eyes. "That wouldn't have something to do with a certain convention that was going on in Atlanta, now would it?"

Aleks and Joey looked at each other, desperate to come up with some kind of plausible reason they would have to go to Atlanta too, without having to admit to the guys that they were planning on attending the exact same conference, only as audience. Let alone admitting that they all had been savouring major crushes on the same men they were sharing a table with.

Ellen, who was still standing next to David, suddenly saw him straighten his back and closed her eyes. Somehow she knew what was coming.

The moment David had mentioned the word Atlanta she realized that the cat was out of the bag.
She noticed that both Joey and Aleks were holding their breaths and that Kai was staring at David from underneath the rim of her hat.

“Ohh.. but there is more than enough room for all of you. I can stash away three more people. Come along with us.” David flashed a dashing smile in the direction of the guys.

Ellen let go of her breath, only now realizing that she had held it too. David, I love you she thought.

“FOR US??” Three pair of male eyes looked at David.

It was Lij who started. “You mean you’re offering to take us along too?”

“Suuure” said David. “There’s plenty of room, and if you guys have to go there too..”

“We do!” said Dom. “Ohhh, we definitely sooo do. It’s just that I’ve never flown a private jet before in my whole life I think.”

“Well this will be your first change” grinned David. “Nothing special about it.”

Karl started grinning. “Talk about a maiden voyage. Ohh, he’s soo innocent our little Dom.”

“WHO are you calling innocent?” flared up Dom. Look at yourself man. Playing man of the world…, as if you’re spending all of your days in private jets.”

Karl grinned wider. “Can’t say that I have. It will be the first time for me too.”

Ellen took David’s arm and pulled him close. “Thanks darling,” she mumbled in his ear. “I owe you one.”
David kissed her cheek and said, “Naah, after all you’ve done for me this is the least I can do to repay you.

“Did for you?” butted Elijah in. “What did she do for you David?”

Ellen glanced at Elijah. “Quite the inquisitive type aren’t you? None of your business my dear.” She turned to the rest of the gang. “Well, it seems like we have rounded up a nice bunch of flying virgins here.”

The three guys burst out laughing. “Virgins! Well that’s a first.”

Grinning Karl turned to David. “But we really appreciate your offer my friend. But are you sure you’re not getting into some kind of trouble for taking strangers along with you?”

“Hey.. it’s ok..” said Ellen. “I checked with Nora, she’s fine with it and when she’s fine with it, so is Robert. And he’s the company’s big man. No, don’t worry Karl, the jet is ours to use for now. And so is David.”

“And David has no problem whatsoever to be used by a couple of guys as goodlooking as you all are” grinned David.

Karl chuckled. “Guys, we just got promoted into the big world.”

He threw Ellen an appreciative look. “Didn’t realize you were such a biggy, darling.”

Ellen puckered her lips. “You ain’t seen nothing yet my friend.”

Karl burned his smouldering eyes into hers.
“I noticed” he said with a warm enchanting voice.

Joey grinned. “Don’t waste your breath darling” she said to Karl. “Ellen’s affections lie elsewhere.”

“Ohh?” Said karl with a question in his voice. “And where might that be?”

“Not with you darling” said Aleks, who got shoved in her side by Dom for her remark
“Don’t darling him” he said. “He’s lethal with women.”

Ellen smirked. “Keep trying Karl. You never know, but for now we have to get our stuff together.”

“Yeah” added David. “I’ve got clearance to depart within 50 minutes, we better get a move on.”

All ducked to gather bags and other stuff when suddenly…..
