Lost in the Darkness (Pain Redefined) [1-8-311]
January 8, 311
"I AM NOT A MONSTER!" The scream echoed throughout the subterranean cavern. Even though his voice was hoarse with the repeated argument, Koltana found the power to scream again. He didn't even sound human anymore. I supposed that is a blessing more than a curse--it will drive off anyone trying to find me... He slumped to the ground, his breath scalding his burdened throat as he breathed those heavy breaths.
Another hand found his shoulder, and Koltana's eyes kept to the ground, not willing to look up at his verbal assailant, "Oh, yes.... Keep screaming! It won't be long before news of the monster in these caverns makes it to Genil... and you know who will come to investigate the disturbance...?" A vicious grin spread over those lips that Koltana refused to look at, and Koltana felt the unreal breath against his ear as the other dipped down to press those lips right up close to his lobe, "And what do you think Morrigan will do when she finds the source of all... those.... deaths?" The voice let it linger in the air, emphasizing each word as a curse upon the Elder slumped lifelessly against the floor.
"Shut up. You don't know what happened that day..!" Again, Koltana was threatened by his rage--that anger welled up inside of him to a frightening boil. The other in the room slipped away from him, concern on its face. He couldn't have Koltana's anger outweighing his sorrow, after all.
"Oh? I don't know, do I?" The hiss of its voice came through those smiling lips, "Let's find out--shall we?" Artist's fingers raised into the air and drew a snap from the friction created on his thumb and index finger. Sparks flew, and burned away reality to release an orb into his hand, clear crystal like the ones you see in fortune-telling shops. "Are you curious?" It turned, the black of its movements fading into the shadows. In his mind, Koltana painted it black, and it threw the orb to him. He caught it, holding the orb before him as he stared into it with an unease granted only by knowledge, "You know what it is, don't you?" The smirk in its words matched the one on its lips, "It's a memory harvester. I just so happened to create it on the day of the incident--Shall we take a peak into their memories?" The light and strength in Koltana's eyes began to whither before the images shown inside the orb's center. Good. Give in to your despair... then this body will be all mine. "That's right... you know better than anyone; their memories don't lie... and guess what? They are screaming curses at the monster that stole their second chance from them!" Only a matter of time... then you'll be all mine, Koltana. I'll have my fill of slaughter and screams one day soon. "Well... for now, I'll leave you to your dear, sweet memories."
It turned from him, it's lithe frame and glaring eyes gone from his mind as it began to walk away. "They're looking for you..." The hiss was soft, and Koltana didn't process it, "You were seen. When they find you, will it be you, Koltana, or I that kills them? Shall we play a game... and find out?" He disappeared then, walking even out of Koltana's sight into the dark recesses of the caverns. Koltana sat there with his eyes lost inside the center of that orb, as that dark day replayed over and over again, but no matter how hard he looked, he could not find the man who had been tormenting him since he had come here... He looked hard and changed his focus--someone had held the orb that night... but it was... Me? How could I have been holding it... there is only one me... right? He looked up after the man who had walked away. A phantom?
They're looking for you... You were seen. When they find you, will it be you, Koltana, or I that kills them? Shall we play a game... and find out?
"Oh... god..." Morrigan was coming. What would come of her appearance? Would she kill him for what he had done? Would he.. kill her? The consequences rolled through his mind with the tears of regret to accompany them as the silence and peace of sleep took him.
