Brahmas make coaching change
Longtime Kalamazoo K-Wings coach Bill Inglis to succeed Todd Lalonde
Fort Worth-The Ft. Worth Brahmas, struggling this season with a CHL worst
7-16-3 record, made a coaching change this afternoon, removing Todd Lalonde
from behind the bench.
Brahmas general manager Mike Barack stated that Lalonde will remain with the
Brahmas organization in a capacity to be determined at a later date.
Bill Inglis, who has previous coaching experience in the NHL, AHL, and IHL,
will assume the coaching duties effective immediately for the Brahmas.
Inglis' first game as the Brahmas head coach will be tonight at 7:05 at the
Ft. Worth Convention Center when the Brahmas take on the Oklahoma City
Blazers.
Inglis is a 59-year-old native of Ottawa, Ontario. After a lengthy
professional playing career that included 26 NHL games with the Los Angeles
Kings and Buffalo Sabres, Inglis made his coaching debut in 1978-79 with the
Buffalo Sabres. After one year with the Sabres, Inglis went on to coach the
Rochester Americans (AHL), Toledo Gold Diggers (IHL) and Kalamazoo K-Wings
(IHL). Inglis won IHL Turner Cup championships in both 1982 and 1983 with
the Gold Diggers. He was also named as the IHL Coach of the Year in
1982-83.
Inglis's longest tenured stop was with the Kalamazoo K-Wings. He was the
head coach of the K-Wings from 1984-93, then the GM for the club from
1993-2000. Under his watch, the K-Wings served as the top affiliate for the
Dallas Stars from 1993-2000.
Barack said that the removal of Lalonde was a direct result of the team's
poor start this season.
"Putting a winning team on the ice is one of the main objectives for this
organization. To this point in the season we have struggled, and our
ownership group decided that we needed to make a change behind the bench,"
stated Barack.
Barack went on to say that the organization appreciated Lalonde's efforts
over his nearly two years with the club.
"Certainly we appreciate Todd Lalonde's work ethic and commitment to this
organization. Quite frankly we were just disappointed in our team's overall
record this season and decided it was necessary to make a coaching change,"
he said.
Craig Johnson, a veteran of more than 10 professional seasons and a member
of Lalonde's Brahmas' teams for the past two seasons, has also been named as
an assistant coach on Inglis' staff. Johnson will also join Inglis on the
Brahmas bench tonight.
A comprehensive bio and release on Bill Inglis will be sent out from the
Brahmas office on Monday. Following tonight's game against the Blazers, the
Brahmas will next be in action on Tuesday, Dec. 31 on home ice against the
Indianapolis Ice.
