Kings take on the Spurs in Western Conf. Showdown
Well,
The Kings came to the Alamadome for the only meeting of the year between these two playoff contenders. Both teams at 11-6, looked to get off to a good start for week 7 (Day19).
Well the game began very good for the San Antonio Spurs. Webber and the Kings were struggling to find a rhythm and Duncan took advantage. He had a good 1st quarter scoring 11 pts. The Spurs led 29-20 after the 1st.
The 2nd quarter was much more competitive as the Kings began to find their offense. The supporting cast for Webber and Williams began to hit key jumpers and vital three's. Christie and Stoyakovich hit from the arc. It was a much closer game going into the half, much to the dismay of Coach Sagemaster. 48-44 Spurs after 2.
The 3rd quarter picked up where the 2nd left off. Both teams trading baskets and trying to come up with key stops. Webber began to take over more of the King's offense on route to a 22 pt. performance. The twins were letting the Kings have it on the other side of the court. They would combine for 72 of the Spurs 102 pts. N. Anderson however hit a key three in the closing minutes of the 3rd. It was still a game going into the 4th, 73-70 Spurs.
Now this is where the Twin Towers showed why they are such a threat. They helped the Spurs make key stops on "D" as the Kings all of a sudden began to struggle. Duncan and Robinson helped the Spurs pull away to a 102-88 victory. This would be a night where the Alamadome would not fall
It was a great effort by coach SSMattharding, but the Kings fell short in the 4th.
Tim Duncan captured Player of the Game honors with 44 pts. and 12 rebounds.
I have a feeling it's not over though. These 2 teams might see each other again in the postseason.
