I'm Venting - TX Electric De-regulation SUX
My kid has been trying to get electric service at his new place for a week, since Dec. 30. This new TX deregulated electricity thing SUX big time. They don't commit to service tmes, 24-48 hrs is all you get told. If it ain't on and you call back, "We're sorry, we're bery busy, give us 24-48 hrs". Seriously, that's all we keep getting told. And when we call WTU (our old local provider) they always refer you to another toll free# which is their affiliated REP (retail energy provider). If you don't like that, call the PUC Im told. So I filed an official complaint and will probably not ever have service until 2003. Hell, the company I work for PAYS the customer is we miss a commitment date. $25 residential $100 business and that's for new service, change of service or repair of service!!

They are trying to speed it up. Their trying to stop all the slamming, like what happened to the phone companies. So blame it on the phone companies for your electrical needs for taking so long.:)

No way, the run around they gave us to get service was nothing like what phone companies dealt with initially. I've been part of that industry for 18 years. The final straw was my kid called TXU back and they actually sent one of their OWN techs out the next morning to connect service. It took a ridiculous amount of phone calls, being put on hold and referred to dozens of numbers that all said the same thing...we don't do that part but I can connect you with who doeas. At least my company has a service guarantee so if we miss the commitment date and time, you get money back. And to make matters worse, the poor kid hasn't got an electric bill from this new fantastic electric company since the service was turned on. They can find him to send the final bill from the previous location BUT can't find him to send a bill for the new account. that's whack!
