I am honest and brave
I wonder if I’ll be allowed to be out in the open any time soon
I hear the faint sounds of airplanes flying over
I see myself outside playing with other children in the streets
I want to grow up to become a writer
I am honest and brave

I pretend that I’m taking a walk with my father, enjoying the beautiful day
I feel confused
I touch the lives of others around me during the toughest times
I worry that our hopes of hiding from the horror of the outside world will be destroyed
I cry at the thought that some of my friends may have already died
I am honest and brave

I understand that in spite of everything, people are really good at heart
I say that we shouldn’t dwell on the horror happening to those at death camps
I dream that I can be outdoors, able to breathe fresh air, and run and shout
I try to think of good things
I hope that the war will soon be over, allowing us to go out in the open
I am honest and brave
