Horse Dreams - PG I'm soo sorry, my computer froze
The alarm clock went off in Taylor’s room. Taylor opened an eye and saw that it was 4 am in the morning. She groaned and rolled over. As she rolled over she hit the edge of the bed and fell out. I guess this is a sign that I need to get out of bed. Taylor got up and threw her bed covers back onto the bed. Taylor looked around her room and spotted a pair of jeans that were laying on her chair by her desk. Taylor grabbed the jeans and pulled them on. She looked around the room for a shirt and spotted one lying on the floor in her closet. She pulled on the T-shirt and went to the bathroom. Taylor brushed her teeth and pulled a comb through her blond hair. She pulled her hair up in to a lazy pony tail. Taylor went down the stairs and into the kitchen. In the kitchen she grabbed a glass and poured herself a glass of orange juice and grabbed a muffin off of the oven top. Taylor quickly drank the glass of juice and put the glass into the dish washer. She went to the front hall and pulled on her boots and grabbed a thin jacket. When Taylor got outside she took a deep breath and breathed in the fresh, crisp, cool air of a spring morning. Taylor looked around and spotted activity at the small training track. Taylor headed to the training barn where Southern Comfort Farms kept their horses that were in training and racing. She walked into the barn and looked on the door of the office. She saw that Shadow of Glory was starting his training today. Shadow of Glory was a Grey colt and at 16 hands already. Shadow of Glory was sired by Dark Shadows (Night Away X Darkling) and out of Day’s of Glory (American Pride X Three Day Draw). Taylor turned around and walked into the tack room and grabbed Shadow’s groom bucket. She started whistling to herself and walked down the aisle to Shadow’s stall. Shadow had his head sticking out of the stall waiting for his morning feed. He gave a whinnying when he saw Taylor.
“Well hello to you too boy. I’ll get your food.” Taylor went into the feed room and grabbed Shadow’s feed. She walked to his stall and let herself in. Taylor hung his feed bucket up and put down the groom bucket. Shadow put his head in his bucket and started eating. Taylor grabbed the curry comb and started to groom Shadow. When she was done with the curry she grabbed the hard brush and brushed all of the dust that had settle onto Shadow during the night. Then she used the soft brush to give him a shiny, sleek look, after she finished brushing him, she cleaned his hoofs. Shadow finished eating his breakfast and turned around to inspect Taylor’s grooming. He nickered his approval. Taylor laughed and said,
“You silly horse.” She gave him a carrot and as Shadow munched on it he bobbed his head up and down. Taylor grabbed a lead shank and put it on Shadow. She lead him outside and put him in his paddock. When Shadow was free he let out a great big buck and then rolled in the dirt.
“SHADOW! Well there goes all of my hard work.” Taylor laughed and closed the gate. Then she walked to the barn and cleaned out Shadow’s stall. When she was done cleaning the stall she went to look for her mom. Taylor’s mom, Alex, was the head trainer at Southern Comfort Farms, and co-owned the horses with William Huntington, Will for short. Taylor headed for the training track remembering that it was 5 in the morning and some horses were heading off to Louisiana next week. Calling All Angels was going to race in the Fair Ground Oaks for 3 year old fillies. She was preparing for the Kentucky Oaks. When Taylor arrived to the track she saw that Calli was preparing to go onto the track and she watched at the rail. Tom, her exercise rider was standing at Calli’s head and was talking to Taylor’s mom, Alex.
“Tom, I want you to take her around for a mile at a slow gallop and then breeze her for a quarter mile. We will clock her before we head out to Louisiana.” Tom nodded and Alex boosted Tom up into the saddle. Calli pranced around and snorted. Tom squeezed Calli into a trot and guided her to the track. On the track Calli try to break into a canter but Tom kept a hold on her. A group of galloping horses passed and Calli wanted to go after them but Tom didn’t let her. Calli snorted and Tom guided her to the middle of the track. There he let a notch of rein out and Calli took off into a canter. After Calli was warmed up, Tom let another notch out and Calli took off at a slow gallop that wasn’t that slow. As they passed the mile pole Tom let out a few notches of rein and Calli put on a burst of speed. Tom crouched low to Calli and let out another notch. Calli put on more speed, when they passed the quarter pole, Calli was gaining more speed but Tom pulled her up. Tom rose in the saddle trying to slow Calli down. Calli snorted and tossed her head in protest but obeyed. Calli slowed down to a trot. Tom guided her to the track entrance. He dismounted and walked over to Taylor and Alex.
“Good job Tom, and you too Calli. Her time was 23 and change for the quarter. She is just like a colt.” Taylor walked up and petted Calli.
“Hey Taylor,” said Tom.
“Oh, hey Tom. Did you have a fun ride?”
“Oh yea. It was awesome.” Tom dismounted and went to go and mount up on his next mount. Taylor took Calli to the wash pit and un-tacked her. Then she put a cooler on Calli and walked her around for 10 minutes. Taylor checked to make sure Calli was dry and cool and put her in her stall. After she put her in the stall, Taylor went back up to the house. At the house, Taylor pulled off her boots and ran upstairs to take a shower. After she was done with her shower and putting on some clean clothes, Taylor headed downstairs and grabbed her book bag and headed out the door.
~~~~~~~~~**Chapter 2**~~~~~~~~~~
Taylor ran down the driveway and saw James sitting at the end of the driveway waiting for the bus.
“Hey James .”
“Oh, hey Ty. Did you watch the morning workouts?”
“Of course I did. I saw that you weren’t there like you always are, what was up with that?”
“Oh, I got up late.”
“Well you missed Calli’s great workout.”
“She always has a great workout. What was her time?”
“She did the quarter in 23 and some change.” James nodded his head. He really didn’t feel like talking about Calli at the moment. His dad was trying to get him into racing and gave him Calli as a present. James really wasn’t interested in racing and was more interested in Barrel Racing, and Steer roping. He was more of a cowboy then jockey. James saw the bus coming and picked up his book bag. Taylor saw him pick up his book bag and she got ready to go. The bus pulled to a stop at the end of the driveway and they got onto the bus. Taylor looked around for Caitlin her best friend and found her near the back of the bus. Taylor made her way to the back and sat down next to Caitlin.
“Hey Ty, what up?” Caitlin asked.
“Oh, not much. Calli put in a great workout today and Shadow starts his training today.”
“That’s good. Are you going to Fair Grounds next week?”
“Yea, its spring break and I want to see Calli race. And Random Choice, Immortal Dreams, and Away of Time are racing in the Louisiana Derby the day after Calli’s race.”
“Well have fun. I’m headed out to the beach down in Florida with my parents. Its going to be so much fun. My parents are renting a beach house and they gave me permission to invite a friend. I was going to invite you but your going to Louisiana. So I’m going to invite Amy.”
“Wow, I hope you have a lot of fun down in Florida. We’re going to send down Random Choice, Immortal Dreams, and Away of Time to run in the Florida Derby on the 13th. We are hoping to bring home 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. But that always doesn’t happen.” Caitlin nodded. The bus arrived at Henry Clay High School. Everyone stood up and loaded off of the bus. Taylor and Caitlin walked to their lockers. Taylor opened her locker and pulled out her Algebra I book and her English book.
“So Cait, how was your weekend? Do anything fun?”
“Nah, I had a English paper that I had to write and you know how my parents are, don’t let me do anything unless everything for school is done.”
“Yea. I’m sorry your weekend was bad.” While Caitlin and Taylor were talking a guy named Kyle, who was about 6’and had dirty blond hair with blue eyes, walked up behind Taylor. Caitlin pointed out that Kyle wanted to speak to her and she turned around.
“Hey Taylor.”
“Oh hey Kyle.” Taylor turned around to finish talking to Caitlin. Caitlin said goodbye and left Taylor and Kyle to talk alone.
“So...Taylor, did you have a good weekend?”
“Yea.” Taylor looked a little confused. Why is Kyle talking to me, she asked herself.
“Well I was wondering if you wanted to hang out sometime, like after school or something.” Taylor had a blank look on her face and was starting to scare Kyle. He started to walk away, when Taylor said,
“Yea sure, that would be cool.”
“Really? You mean it?” Kyle looked happy.
“Yea, just let me know when and where and at what time, so I don’t make prier arrangements.”
“Well...um...how about Wednesday after baseball practice?”
“Yea sure that would be great.”
“Well I guess I will see you later. You have lunch first right?”
“Yea.”
“Well so do I, you wanna sit together?”
“I guess that would be fine, I sit with Cait, Jon, and Amy.”
“OK. Well see you at lunch.” Kyle walked away and Taylor closed her locker and went to her Algebra class. They bell rang and class started. Taylor started to daydream about Kyle, and Shadow, and Calli. Why is Kyle, a good looking jock, asking me out? What does he see in me? Why me? I mean I’m not complaining or anything, I just want to know why me. Wow I can’t believe Shadow is finally going into training. I can’t wait to see him race. It is going to be beautiful. And Calli, she is going to the Kentucky Oaks, what a lucky horse. I can’t wait for Friday to come. I will be flying to Louisiana to watch Calli in the Fairground Oaks and to watch Random, Immy and Time in the Louisiana Derby. That is going to be so much fun. I hope they all win their races.
“Ms. Kingston, are you with us?”
“Yea.”
“Please answer the question then.”
“Can you repeat the question please?”
“Ms. Kingston please stay after class I need to talk to you. Mr. Farrell, What year was the Central Pacific and Union Pacific joined together to form the Transcontinental railroad?”
“Um....1862?”
“No, Mr. Farrell, if you were paying attention you would know that they became the Transcontinental railroad in 1869. The year that you gave me was the end of the Pony Express. You have a test on Friday.” The class groaned and the bell rang. Everyone packed up and headed to their next class. Taylor hung back and waited for everyone to file out of the class room. She went up to her teacher’s desk.
“You wanted to talk to me Ms. Railey.”
“Yes. I am seeing a major change in her class work and homework. Is there anything going on at home that might be affecting your work? Any problems with your parents or anything?”
“No. I don’t know what’s wrong. I’ll try harder to keep my grades up.”
“Well if there is any problems at all, you know you can come and talk to me about them.” Taylor nodded and headed off to her next class. Soon it was lunchtime and Taylor walked into the Cafeteria. She spotted Cait, Jon, and Amy and waved to them. They waved back, and Taylor headed over to the table. Taylor put her book bag on the ground and sat down next to Cait.
“So...Ty, tell us about Kyle talking to you,” prompted Amy. Taylor gave Cait a evil look.
“Thanks for blabbing everything Cait.”
“It wasn’t Cait that said anything. Jon saw you two talking to each other and he told me about it.” Taylor punched Jon in the arm and started telling.
“Well we started talking and he asked if I could hang out with him on Wednesday after baseball practice and I said yes.”
“Are you for serious?” asked Amy.
“Yea.” Taylor blushed.
“Wow. I would say yea too if a guy asked me to hang out.” Amy hinted trying to get Jon’s attention, but he was looking elsewhere and had no clue what was going on. Kyle saw Taylor and went over to the table she was at.
“Hi Ty. Can I sit down?” He pointed to the seat next to Taylor.
“Yea, sure.” Kyle sat down and started talking to Jon. They got into a big conversation about who was going to win the world series. Taylor, Caitlin, and Amy all looked at each other and sighed. Caitlin’s boyfriend, Adam, came over and got into the world series conversation also.
“So Cait, do you wanna come over tomorrow after school and go riding?”
“I’ll check with my dad and mom and see if its okay, but I would love too.”
“Cool. Amy too bad you are afraid of horses. I think it would be cool for all of us to hang out.”
“Yea too bad. Well I got other things to do any way’s so it doesn’t matter.” Amy looked kinda sad, but she quickly put on a smile. The lunch bell rang and everyone went to their classes. Soon the day was over and Taylor met James at the bus parking lot. They got on the bus and sat together. Caitlin had rehearsal for the school musical. When the bus arrived at their bus stop, Taylor and James got off of the bus and headed up the drive. James headed to the right, to the main house, whereas Taylor headed to the left, to her house.
~~~~~~~~~~~~**Chapter 3**~~~~~~~~~~~~
Soon the day was over and Taylor met James at the bus parking lot. They got on the bus and sat together. Caitlin had rehearsal for the school musical. When the bus arrived at their bus stop, Taylor and James got off of the bus and headed up the drive. James headed to the right, to the main house, whereas Taylor headed to the left, to her house. Taylor unlocked the door with her house key and went inside. In the hallway, Taylor stripped off her coat and pulled off her shoes. She went upstairs and to her bedroom. Inside there she threw her book bag on the floor by her desk and changed into some riding clothes. Taylor went downstairs, grabbed her helmet and vest, and pulled on her boots. She went outside and went to the training barn and grabbed a lead shank. She went to Mystic Challenger’s pasture. When she got to the horse’s paddock, she gave a loud whistle and Mystic came galloping towards the fence. He was about to hit the fence, when he came to a sliding stop. Mystic was a quarter horse that was trained as a cow horse. He knew how to do sliding stops, rollbacks, turn on the heel, turn on the fore, barrel race, and etcetera. Taylor climbed over the fence and attached the lead shank to Mystic’s halter. She opened the gate and led him out. Then she closed the gate and headed up to the training barn. When she got to the barn, she put him in cross-ties and grabbed his groom bucket from the tack room. Taylor brushed him down and put a western saddle on him. James came inside the barn with his black quarter horse, The Jackpot. He put him in cross-ties, quickly brushed him down and tacked him up. Taylor put on her vest and helmet and led Mystic to a mounting block. James followed in pursuit and mounted up on Jack. He waited for Taylor to mount up and then they headed out on the trails. They passed the mare’s pasture and then the galloping lanes. After Taylor and James warmed up their horses they urged them into a trot. They headed down the trails. Soon they put their horses into a lope and loped down the trail. James and Taylor came to where the trail split into two ways. They took the left trail and headed into the forest. They came to a clearing, where James had set up some barrels and poles. They pulled their horses to a stop and went over to the start of the barrels.
“Hey Ty, do you have your stopwatch on ya?” Taylor pulled back her sleeve and reveled a stopwatch. James nodded in acknowledgment, and headed to the beginning of the barrels.
        “Can you time me and Jack?” Taylor nodded and guided Mystic to the start line. James kicked Jack into a gallop as Taylor hit the start button. James flew around the barrels, first to the right then to the left and then to the left again. He flew down the straight away and ran through the start-line. Taylor hit the stop button and looked at the time. She put a big smile on her face and looked at James. He walked Jack over to Taylor and asked,
“What was the time? Was it good?” He looked very grim, hoping that the time wasn’t bad.
        “The time was 25.62 seconds. Not bad at all. Needs a little more work, but its as good as the professionals.” Taylor smiled at James, and he gave a sigh of relief.
“Your turn.” Taylor shook her head no. But James urged her on,
“Come on, you can’t be that bad. Mystic is a barrel horse if you forgot. All’s you have to do is hang on and steer him.”
“OK, I’ll give it a go.” Taylor gave James her stopwatch and prepared Mystic for the barrels. She lined him up on the line and then kicked him into a gallop. James hit the start button and watched Taylor fly through the pattern. She galloped through the start-line and James hit the stop button. He looked at the time and looked really shocked.
“What was the time?”
“A few seconds better than mine.” Taylor gave him a weird look.
“Are you sure? Let me see.” She looked at the time and was like,
“Oh my gosh, wow. Well Mystic is older then Jack, and he has had more professional training then Jack, so it really isn’t that much of a difference.” James nodded and then looked at the time. It was getting near 4.30, and they decided to head back home. They loped their horses down the trail until the farm came into view and then they cooled down their horses. Taylor and James dismounted outside of the training barn and then led their horses into the barn. They put them in cross-ties and un tacked the horses. Taylor and James groomed their horses and led them back outside to their pasture. After they let the horses free they headed back to the barn to do their chores. Taylor had to clean Shadow of Glory’s, Random Ransom’s, Immortal Dream’s and Third Legacy’s stalls. James had to clean Calling All’s, Away of Time’s, Rock N’ Roll’s and Turning Tide’s stalls. They raced against each other seeing who would finish first. Taylor finished a few seconds before James and started laughing. James threw some straw at her and they started having a straw fight. A groom, Kelly, came in.
“Hey ya’ll two. Stop it. Your gonna have to clean this mess up. Ya know that don’t ya. I hope so. Cuz I’m not cleaning it up, and Taylor your mom is looking for you.” Kelly left and Taylor and James started cleaning up the mess. When they were done cleaning the mess, Taylor said goodnight to Shadow and Calli and then went up to the cottage. The sun was going down and Taylor sat on the front porch for a few minutes watching it. She went inside and called out,
“Mom? You here?”
“In the kitchen.” Taylor headed to the kitchen and saw her mom sitting down at the kitchen table. In front of her was a newspaper.
“Hi mom.” Alex looked up and smiled. She had tear’s in her eyes.
“What’s wrong mom? Is it dad?” Alex wiped away the tears and stood up. She pulled Taylor into hug.
“
It’s nothing Ty. Nothing. I’m fine. Everything is going to be all right.”
“Are you sure mom?”
“Yes dear. Are you hungry?” Taylor nodded and Alex started making dinner. Taylor glanced at the table and looked at the headline of the newspaper. Taylor picks up the newspaper and started reading.
A Man Nearly Dies in a Fatal Riding Accident.
A fatal accident happened this morning at 10am at Hollywood Park. Charles Kingston was exercising a horse named American Starburst, and a black horse out of no where came galloping down the muddy track without a rider. Charles heard a horse behind him, but thought it was just another horse exercising. The black stallion came galloping behind Charles and Starburst, and bumped into them. Starburst slipped in the mud and went crashing into the rail. Charles flew over top of the horse and landed on the track. The other riders that were exercising their horses did not notice Charles on the ground until it was to late. They came galloping over him and hooves barely missed Charles. He is currently in a nearby hospital conditions unknown. The owner of the unknown black stallion is yet to be unidentified. The reason for the stallion’s being loose is also unknown. The horse was not saddled, and was not on the schedule for being exercised.
Taylor finished reading the article and had a few tears in her eyes. Her mom was looking at her and then she too started crying again. They embraced each other for about 10 minutes. Then Taylor smelt something burning.
“Mom?”
“Yes dear?”
“There’s something burning.” Alex ran to the oven and opened it up. She pulled out the burnt casserole.
“Well it looks like we will be ordering out tonight.” Taylor went to go find the Chinese menu, and called Son Juh. She placed the order and waited for the delivery to arrive. The phone rang, and Alex answered it. Taylor listened in on the conversation.
“Hello?”
“Hi, are you Alex Kingston?”
“Yes.”
“I’m calling to let you know that your husband was in a accident this morning, and that he is in Centinela Hospital Medical Center, in Inglewood, California.”
“Thank you. Do you know his condition?”
“He has a mild concussion, and a few broken bones. He won’t be able to ride for at least 6 months. And may be in the hospital for a few weeks until he improves.”
“Thank you for your help.”
“Your welcome.” Alex hung up the phone and the doorbell rang. Taylor answered it and it was the delivery man.
“Here’s your order. The total is $12.50.” Taylor handed him $15 and closed the door as soon as he walked away. She took the food into the kitchen and gave her mom her food. They ate in silence and then Taylor went upstairs to do her homework. After she was done with her homework she went to bed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~**Chapter 4**~~~~~~~~~~~
Taylor woke up to the sound of the alarm ringing. She hit it a few times and the clock fell to the ground. The rising sun hit her in the eyes, and she pulled the cover’s over her head. Outside you could hear the morning activities going on. Grooms were preparing horses for exercising, horses were kicking their stalls demanding their breakfast, and the sound of galloping horses on the track. Taylor couldn’t sleep anymore and finally got up. She glanced at the clock on the ground and saw that it was 6.00am in the morning. She was supposed to have woken up an hour ago. Taylor hurried to put on her jeans and a shirt and went downstairs. She pulled on her boots and ran out the house. Taylor went into the training barn and saw that Shadow was not in his stall. She frantically searched for him, and asked all the grooms that passed by her. They all shook their head no when she asked them if they had seen him. Taylor went to the track looking for her mother. She spotted her standing by the rail talking to Tom who was sitting on Ponderosa. Tom took off on Ponderosa, and Taylor went over to her mother.
“Have you seen Shadow this morning?” Alex looked at Taylor and sighed.
“Well if you got up at the time you were supposed to have gotten up at, you would know that he is in the round pen, training.” Taylor looked relived.
“I’m sorry mom. I stayed up last night worrying about dad.”
“Oh Taylor I’m so sorry. You know we can’t visit him, you have school, and I have horses to train. And well next week we are going to Louisiana, we might be able to drive to see him, but you would miss some school.” Taylor nodded, and gave her mom a hug.
“It will be all right mom. You need to go back to watching the horses, and I need to clean Shadow’s stall along with Legacy’s, Dreams, and Ransom’s.” Taylor walked away and Alex returned to watching the exercising horses. Taylor quickly cleaned the stalls and headed up to her cottage. She changed into her school clothes, grabbed her book bag and went outside. She ran down the driveway, and got to the bus stop just as the bus was pulling up. Taylor spotted Caitlin in the middle of the bus and walked down the aisle. She got to the seat and plopped down next to her.
“I heard about your dad Ty. I’m so sorry.” Caitlin tried to but a small smile on, but she frowned instead.
“It’s OK. I know in my heart that he is fine and doing good. Plus I will be seeing him soon.” Taylor hugged her friend and then stopped talking.
“My mom said it was okay for me to come over today, that is if you are still up to riding.” Caitlin took a glance at Taylor and she just nodded.
“Yea, I guess. You could ride Caution Flag.”
“Cool.” They stopped talking and for the rest of the bus ride they were silent. When they arrived at school, Taylor and Caitlin went to their locker. They got out the books that they needed and then closed their lockers. Taylor looked ahead of her and saw Kyle standing with a group of friends talking. She walked over to him.
“Hey Ty.” Kyle waved and smiled at Taylor. She returned the smile and wave.
“Hi Kyle, are we still on for tomorrow night?”
“Yea, if you still want to, you know hang out, after all that has happened you know?”
“Oh, yea, I still want to hang out.” Taylor smiled.
“Cool. Well I will meet you after school in the gym on Wednesday.” Kyle returned the smile and turned to finish talking to his friends. Taylor left and went to her classroom.
The end of school bell rang and everyone rushed out of their classrooms. Taylor went to her locker and dropped off her books. Inside her locker was a note, she took the note and put it in her pocket. Caitlin spotted Taylor at her locker and walked over to her.
“Ready to go riding?” Taylor smiled and nodded.
“Sure am. Well lets go.” Taylor shut her locker. Caitlin and Taylor walked to the bus. They got on the bus, and the bus took off. As they arrived at the farm, James, Taylor, and Caitlin got off the bus. Taylor and Caitlin headed up to her cottage, and James headed to the mare’s barn. When Taylor and Caitlin got to Taylor’s cottage they went inside, and dropped off their book bags. They went upstairs and changed into their riding clothes. They pulled on their boots and headed outside to the barn. Inside the barn, Taylor and Caitlin grabbed two lead shanks and headed out to the pastures. Taylor gave a sharp whistle and Mystic came galloping over. He did a sliding stop and then tossed his head snorting. Caitlin yelled out,
“Caution boy, come here Caution.”
Taylor gave a sharp whistle and Mystic came galloping over. He did a sliding stop and then tossed his head snorting. Caitlin yelled out,
“Caution boy, come here Caution.” Caution Flag came trotting over. He butted his head against Caitlin’s chest and nickered. Taylor, Mystic, Caitlin, and Caution all walked to the training barn. Ty and Cait put their horses into cross-ties and brushed them down. They put English saddles on and led the horse’s out. Tyand Cait mounted up and headed down the driveway. They were heading towards Flying Dragon Farms. Flying Dragon Farms or F.D.F, was a show stable. The riders competed in other shows in town against other stables and other riders. Ty and Cait trotted down the road to F.D.F. When they arrived at the end of the driveway, they cantered up to the outdoor ring. Inside the ring was Charlotte, or as the riders call her, Charlie. Beside’s Charlie, there was also 3 other girls, Megan, Kelli, and Jamie, that were going to join in Ty’s and Cait’s lesson. Charlie was Alex’s all time best best friend from when they were in middle school. Charlie waved to the girls and called out,
“Hurry up you slow pokes. We’ve been waiting around all day for you two. You’ve got a grusome lesson ahead of you planned by me.” She put a evil grin on her face and motioned for them to hurry up. Ty and Cait laughed and trotted up to the gate. Ty opened the gate and rode inside. Cait followed her, then Ty closed the gate while sitting on Mystic. The girls clapped when Ty finished closing the gate.
“Settle down girls. And start warming your horses up.” All the girls squeezed their horses into a walk and guided them around the ring. After their horses wer warmed up, Charlie insturcted them to take their feet out of their stirrups and put them over the horses shoulders.
She instructed them to start trotting around the ring.
“Today we will be working on our balance.” They trotted around the ring, each of the girls deepening their seats. After the lesson Megan, Kelli, and Jamie went to un-tack their horses, and Charlie went to go talk to Ty and Cait.
“Ty, how is your mom? And I am so sorry to hear about your dad.” Ty shrugged.
“Mom’s okay. We are going to visit dad after the Louisiana Derby on Sunday.”
“That’s good.” Ty nodded.
“Well we better get going. Don’t forget to come and visit us.” Ty waved goodbye and Charlie waved back. Cait and Ty urged their horses in to a walk and went down the driveway and headed home. When they got home, Cait and Ty un-tacked the horses and put them in their stalls. Caitlin’s mom came and picked her up. Ty went to go clean her stalls. James was halfway done with his stalls. When they were done they headed up to their houses. Ty walked through the front door and took off her boots. Alex was in the living room watching an old race on TV. Ty headed upstairs with her book bag. She was digging through her book bag looking for a pencil, when she came across the folded note that was in her locker. She unfolded the note and started reading it.
Ty,
Hi. This is Kyle here. I’ve been wanting to tell you something for along time now, but I have never had the courage until now. You are a really sweet girl and I hope you always stay that way. What I am trying to say is that I have had a crush on you since 7th grade. This is kind of hard for me to say, but well, will you go out with me? What I mean is will you be my girlfriend? You always brighten up my day when I see your smile. And I can’t stop thinking about you. You made my day when you told me that you would hang out with me after baseball practice. About that, do you want to hang with me at Ice-cream Delight’s? I was thinking maybe we could talk and stuff. Well, I guess I’ve said all that is on my mind so see you later.
Kyle
Ty smiled after she read the note. So that’s why he all of a sudden started talking to me. Well I guess it would be nice to have a boyfriend that you could hangout with. And I am inthe pep club. I’ve been to everyone of his games. And I am going to his baseball games and all. Ty smiled again and started her homework. When she was finished, she went downstairs to eat and hang with her mom. They watched old race’s together until 9.30, then Taylor went to bed. She laid down under her covers and thought about what a wonderful day she had. Edited by: ShadowofGlory17 at: 2/12/04 3:43 pm
        The last period bell rang and all the students rushed out of their classrooms. Taylor headed to the gym looking for Kyle.
        "Looking for someone?" Kyle asked from behind her. Taylor laughed and turned around.
        "No I’m not looking for anyone." Kyle gave her a sad face and pulled her into a hug.
        "Well I have to change and get ready for Baseball practice so I will meet you here around 4 okay?" Ty smiled and nodded her head.
        "That will be fine. I can’t wait to go to Delight’s. Sounds yummy." She giggled some more when Kyle started tickling her.
        "Stop." Kyle kept on tickling her. Finally he stopped because he had to go and change for practice. They hugged each other and Kyle walked off to the locker room. . Earlier that day Ty talked to Kyle about the note her wrote her. She told him that she would love to go out with him, and so that made it official. Kyle and Taylor were finally a couple. Taylor went to go and hang out with Amy. Amy was at the soccer field stretching. Amy spotted Taylor and ran over to her. They gave each other a hug and started talking.
        "OMG… I heard that you and Kyle got together."
        "Yea. He wrote me a note yesterday."
        "Well you guys make a cute couple. Are you going to the spring dance?"
        "Maybe. If he asks me. You know how I am about dances. I don’t like them.
        "Yea I know that." Amy laughed. The soccer coach called all the girls together and Amy left in a hurry. Taylor went to go sit on the stadium seats. She placed her book bag on the floor and sat down. Taylor saw the baseball team come out of the locker room and head over to the baseball field. Kyle spotted her and waved. Taylor waved back and turned to watch Amy. When soccer was over, Amy came over and asked,
        "So you going to hang with Kyle today?"
        "Yea. We are going to Ice-cream Delights. You going to hang with Adam?"
        "Yea. Well I have to go and shower and get ready for my date. I will call you around 9 okay?" Ty nodded and Amy ran off to the girl’s locker room. Ty headed to the gym. Kyle came out of the guy’s locker room, fresh from a shower. They hugged each other and walked to Delight’s. Delight’s was near Clay Henry High and also near enough to walk to. Ty and Kyle walked hand in hand to Delight’s. They walked inside and found a corner booth for two. The waitress came over and took their order.
        "I will have a sundae with nut and caramel syrup not chocolate on Mint Chocolate Chip," said Taylor.
        "I will have a chocolate malt shake." ordered Kyle. The waitress brought their order and they ate their ice cream in silence. Kyle broke the silence.
        "So...how was school today Ty?"
        "It was cool. Boring like always."
        "Yea. Well what are your plans for spring break?"
        "My mom and I are flying out on Friday to Louisiana for the Louisiana Derby and the Fair Ground Oaks. We are racing Calling All in the Oaks, and Random Ransom, Immortal Dreams and Away of Time in the Derby."
        "Sounds fun." Ty smiled and nodded.
        "It sure is. So what are you up to over spring break?"
        "My family and I are headed out to Myrtle Beach, and we are going to the race on the 8th. We got track passes from Bobby LaBonte. He is a friend of the family so we get free passes sometimes. I can’t wait"
        "Wow. Do you think you can get me Jr.’s autograph? That would be so cool." Kyle grinned evily.
        "Your a JR. fan? You Traitor. I can’t date a JR. fan." Ty frowned, playing along.
        "My dad is a big JR. fan, so I sorta followed in the footsteps. But I am not a traitor. And we can’t break up because of that. I mean look at everyone else in the U.S. some husbands root for a different driver then their wife’s." Ty laughed.
        "I am just playing...why do you have to take things so seriously. I have no choice but to root for Bobby because he is a friend. So there is nothing I can do about that."
        "I know. I was playing to." Ty giggled and scooted around the table to sit next to Kyle. They hugged each other and paid for their ice creams. Then they walked out of Delight’s.
        "What time do you have to be home?" asked Kyle.
        "Not until 8. I have to call my mom so she can come pick me up."
        "No. I will take you home. Do you want to go see a movie, or just walk around the mall and hang?"
        "Um...how about we go see a movie, and if there is time, walk around. And thanks for taking me home. But I still need to call my mom to tell her. So hold on and I will call her." Ty pulled out her cell phone and dialed the office number in the barn. The phone rang 3 times and then Alex picked up the phone.
        "Hello? Southern Comfort Farms, Alex speaking."
        "Hi, mom its me. I am going to go see a movie with Kyle and then he is going to bring me home. So you don’t have to pick me up. I will be home around 8ish. Okay?"
        "Okay. I will be at the house. And thanks for calling me. Don’t forget to do your homework too." Ty sighed and said goodbye. Then they hung up the phone. Ty put the cell phone back into her purse.
        "Okay. We can go now." Ty slipped her hand into Kyle’s and they walked to the movie theater. At the movie theater Kyle asked,
        "What movie do you want to see?"
        "How about The Butterfly Effect. It seems like a cool movie." Kyle nodded and went to the ticket booth.
        "Two for The Butterfly Effect."
        "That will be $6.75." Kyle handed him the money and they went inside. Inside Kyle asked Ty
        "Are you hungry, do you want some popcorn or a drink?" Ty replied,
        "I would like a small sprite, if that is cool with you."
        "How about a large and we share?" Ty nodded. Kyle got in line and bought a large sprite and medium popcorn. They went into the theater and found a seat near the top. They sat down and the movie started.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        "That was a great movie," Ty said at the end of the movie. They walked out of the theater and went to the mall. They hung at the mall until 7.30 and then Kyle’s mom came and picked them up. They took Ty home and dropped her off at home. As they pulled up to the cottage, Alex came out to meet Kyle’s mom and Kyle.
