Gorillas Kick Off Regular Season
GORILLAS REGULAR SEASON KICKS OFF TONIGHT IN LUBBOCK
AMARILLO, TX Game On!
The Amarillo Gorillas officially face-off their 2003-2004 Central Hockey League regular season schedule tonight when they battle the Lubbock Cotton Kings at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum.
Fans can tune in to the contest live on Hot 99.7 FM, a division of Amigo Broadcasting starting with Gorillas Game Night at 6:40 p.m. The face off is set for shortly after 7 p.m. The game can also be heard live on the Gorillas website at www.amarillogorillas.com with the voice Denis J. Puska calling all of the action.
The Gorillas won the pre-season games between the two teams 8-3 and 5-1 and are ready to make it three in a row against the division and conference rival Cotton Kings. Last year the Gorillas thrilled the fans in the Panhandle by advancing to the Central Hockey League playoffs for the first time in Amarillo Professional Hockey History. The Gorillas are hoping to better their 39 win record of a year ago.
The Gorillas will be led by top point getter in 2002-2003 Henry Kuster, CHL Rookie of the Year Derek Hahn and new recruits Derrell Upton and Tom Gomes. Amarillo defensive corps could be among the best six in the Central Hockey League Mark DeSantis at the helm.
Goaltender Shawn Degagne will try to pick up where he left off at the end of last season where he ignited the Gorillas to the playoffs with his solid play between the pipes.
The Amarillo Gorillas Home Opening weekend is set for next Friday, October 24 and Saturday October 25 at The Jungle in the Amarillo Civic Center. The Gorillas will host the expansion Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees next Friday night at 7 pm.
It is Taco Villa/Rosa’s Café Night and there are plenty of giveaways including magnet schedules, glow pins and thundersticks. The following night, next Saturday, Amarillo plays host to the much improved Wichita Thunder also at 7 p.m.
Tickets for the two games are on sale now at the Civic Center Box Office, Panhandle Tickets located at Randy’s Music Mart, WT Event Center in Canyon and United Supermarkets in Amarillo, Borger, Dumas and Pampa.
