When all my dreams are fallin' on stony ground
And I start wonderin' why I'm even around,
Can’t find the sunshine anywhere,
Jessie puts her arms around me and runs her fingers through my hair.

Dom let out a sigh as he sat up on the edge of the bed. He worked so hard to get where he is but he seemed to be stagnating. He was no longer going forward in his career and all the work he had done over the last couple of years was still to be seen. He was back in LA finally after spending time in Hawaii filming Lost and all he could do now was wait. The show hadn’t even been officially picked up yet but they had filmed a few shows. His movies were no shows with all still in post production yet everyone else seamed to have stuff on the go all the time. Dom felt the bed move and arms wrap around him as he let out another sigh. He felt her body pressed against his as she hugged him from behind. This at least felt right felt good. “Don’t worry bout it babe, good things come to those who wait.”
“I’m sick of waiting. All I seem to be doing at the moment is waiting, waiting for them to release the movies, waiting for them to pick up the show, waiting for…” Dom paused thinking for a moment.
“For what?”
“Never mind… that I can wait for.”
“Okay, if you’re going to be like that… It doesn’t matter anyway, you’re home now. That is what really matters, I missed you.”
“I missed you too Jessie.” He felt her hand run through his hair as she kissed his neck softly.
“You’re a star to me no matter what, the most amazing person I have ever met. Smart, funny, talented. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise ever. I’m gonna go make you some breakfast, come down when your ready.” Dom nodded as she stood and wrapped her silk kimono around her hiding the fact she wore only a singlet and knickers below it. He could hear her quietly singing to herself as he went to take a shower.

And Jessie sings soft as the Georgia rain
Coming down easy on a windowpane.
And Jessie sings warm as a late night summer breeze
Hummin' some faraway tune to the willow trees.
And life is everything God meant it to be
When Jessie's singing soft as the Georgia rain to me.

Dom sat on the stool at the breakfast bar and listened to her sing along to the songs on the radio. She was smiling as she made her way around the kitchen. She was a chef and was happiest in the kitchen cooking. He had asked her a few times if she had ever wanted to sing and she would always reply with a simple no. She was so sure of herself as if she never doubted a single thought or decision she had ever made. He wished he could be that confident about himself at times. Maybe that would have made him a better actor. Made him more appealing for the leading roles rather than the best friend or someone in the background. She smiled as she put the plate down in front of him before taking a seat beside him still singing. “Be mine, be mine! Winter summer, day or night Centigrade or Fahrenheit. Baby till your heart belongs to me, be mine, be mine. Thursday Friday, short or long, when you got a love so strong how can it be wrong now mercy me.” Dom took the first bite as he always did while she watched studying his face. She sang still trying to make it seem like it wouldn’t matter if he didn’t like it. She had done it perfectly as usual and for some reason he felt like it proved he wasn’t good enough for her. He smiled taking another large bite so she couldn’t question him. She was perfect in every way, her voice was angelic, she could cook and he felt unworthy. He couldn’t even get a part in a movie that people wanted to see. She took a bite watching him, he could tell she thought he didn’t like it so he swallowed his mouthful quickly.
“It’s good, I love it. How do you come up with stuff like this?”
“Talent, that and I learnt from the best.” She kissed his cheek softly before taking another bite. “You really like it?”
“Of course I do, I could get another opinion if you want. I’m sure Lij could take a minute from his full schedule to take a mouthful of your cooking.” It came out bitter and he knew he shouldn’t take his frustration out on his friends but he was past caring.
“That’s not necessary, if you say you like it then that is good enough for me.” She was trying to calm him but it wasn’t working. He was a failure in comparison to her. He finished his breakfast and put his plate in the sink.
“I’ll clean up.” She nodded handing him her plate before heading out to get the mail. He watched her cross the hall to their mailbox as he filled the sink with water. Their neighbour Chris walked out into the hall looking Jessie over and Dom felt jealousy rise in him. Chris was a lawyer and the type of guy he knew that Jessie should be with.
“Hey Jessie how are you today?”
“Very well thanks Chris, you?” Dom turned off the water and started to wash up trying to make it look like he wasn’t listening.
“I’m doing well thanks, might I add you appear to be absolutely glowing at the moment.”
“So I’m usually dull, huh?” They both laughed, “Thankyou, you’re looking pretty good yourself.”
“Thanks, I just got that promotion I was telling you about last week.”
“Congratulations. You deserved it.”
“I work hard, but I’m not sure I deserved it, the guy that got passed up on it had been working there longer than I have.” Dom gripped the plate in his hand tighter. Chris deserved a promotion, but he didn’t deserve a successful movie, he had to wait. “How bout you come out and celebrate with me? Same place as last week, everyone’s going to be there.”
“I would love to…”
“Great, I’ll come get you at 10 when you finish work.”
“But, Dom’s back and we are spending some time together before he has to go away again.”
“You know if that guy really cared about you he wouldn’t keep going away and leaving you here by yourself. So where is he then, I haven’t seen him in a while.”
“He’s inside, washing up, you can come in if you want.”
“He hasn’t done much lately has he? I mean look at all the other guys, they all have gotten really successful since the movies came out. He seems to be the unlucky one, not getting any good offers or anything. I mean like in comparison to Orlando and Elijah.”
“He has a few things all coming out soon, he’s been in Hawaii filming a TV show actually, by the same guy that did Alias, so hopefully it will do well.”
“Yeah hopefully. I gotta get to work I will see you later Jessie.”
“Bye.” He heard her close the front door and he pulled out the plug in the sink and walked upstairs to the bedroom.

She calls me angel and says, "Let me dry your eyes.
You mean by now you still don't realize
That everything I want is what I got,
So angel stop your thinkin' 'bout all the things your not."

Dom heard her calling to him from downstairs but he ignored her as tears finally escaped. He shoved his clothes into the suitcase not caring that they would all be creased in the process. He grabbed the photos that sat on the dresser, ones taken by Viggo in New Zealand. There were also a couple of him and Jessie mainly from when they had first met. He shoved them in the bag as he heard her come upstairs. He zipped the suitcase closed and put it on the floor as he grabbed his keys and wallet from beside the bed. He slipped it in his pocket as she walked through the door.
“Are you going out? I thought we were going to spend the day together? I have to work tonight.”
“I need some time to myself, figure some stuff out. Go out with Chris, he seems to care about you enough.”
“Dom please don’t go.” She grabbed his arm lightly but saw in her face that she wanted to grab hold for dear life. His tears came harder as he looked in her eyes.
“You don’t want me, I’m nothing. You deserve more than me, more than this. I know this isn’t the right time to tell you this but I love you Jessie and that’s why I should leave. Find that person who is perfect just like you are and love them like I do you okay.”
“Please Dom, stay, talk to me. If you still want to leave then you are free to go. But talk to me first.” Her hands went to his face and she wiped away the tears that still fell. “I know things seem unfair at the moment, they all have the instant fame yes, but you, you have so much to offer. I have seen it, with Lost and Spivs. You have talent and that is what will show at the end of the day.”
“But if I’m not visible at the end of the day how can I still be standing. I need to be seen to get where I want. And what then? What if I do get there? I’m going to be home even less than I am now, you hate my being away already. And what happens when you want a family? To settle down and I’m not there?”
“Dom you ask it and I will give up everything to follow you to the ends of the earth.”
“But you’re happy where you are now I can’t make you give that up. You will hate me for it one day.”
“Yes I am happy because I’m with you. Can’t you see that? I can cook anywhere, we have a kitchen right downstairs that I am happy to cook in, because I’m cooking for you. If you leave isn’t that still making me give up what makes me happy?”
“We both know this wasn’t going to last, lets just end it now, while it’s still good.”
“I thought it would last! That’s it you say it’s over so it’s over. You love me? I really doubt that because if you really did this wouldn’t be happening and it’s as simple as that Dominic.”
“Jessie don’t.”
“Don’t what? Don’t love you? Don’t care about the fact the father of my baby is going to walk out the door before I have the chance to even tell him he is going to be a daddy? Don’t make this what it really is? An excuse for you to feel like shit when you have no real reason to. You want to know what I really want more than anything? I want us, happy, a family. I want to be with you and if that means following you around the world then I will do it.”
Dom didn’t hear any thing after she admitted to being pregnant. How? When? He noticed she had finished and was now looking at him confused. “You’re… pregnant?”
“Yes, I was going to tell you today. I didn’t mean for you to find out like this but I panicked, you were going to leave me, us.”
“I don’t want to. I didn’t ever want to go but I don’t deserve you and I just proved it.”
“Let me decide what I do and don’t deserve from now on.” He nodded as she wiped the remaining tears from his eyes. “What we have, that is all I have ever wanted so angel stop thinking about all the things your not.” Dom kissed her softly smiling; he was going to be a father and Jessie a mother.

Dom watched from a table right next to kitchen as Jessie danced around to the radio. Her staff all laughing and singing along as they worked. He once again got the feeling that everything was right, he was where he was supposed to be. She smiled at him every few minutes when she moved to where she could see him. She was glowing, Chris had been right. But it was because of him and the child they had created together, not because of anyone else. The small restaurant was popular and busy like it was most other Friday nights. He had come in to have dinner and then wait for her to finish so they could go home together. It was another fifteen minutes till closing and the kitchen was still bustling with the final desert orders and cleaning. It would be at least another half-hour before they could leave. He liked sitting by himself, having the time to think. “Ready to go?” He looked up at Jessie who was smiling down at him. “We need to hurry before George changes his mind about sending me home early.” Dom stood grabbing his stuff and left money for his meal. He waved at George as he held the door open for her. They started towards home and Dom wrapped his arm around Jessie’s waist pulling her close. He kissed her neck as they walked causing her to giggle. A smile spread across his face as she did, he loved the sound of her laugh. “Dom.”
“Yeah?”
“You remember that holiday we were gonna take. Mexico, a trailer, the ocean right outside the door.”
“I remember, you were going to buy me the hat so I could sit and watch you swim without spoiling my pasty complexion.”
“That won’t work any more.”
“Why not? I want the hat.”
“You’re not pasty any more. You have tanned a lot over the past few weeks.”
“But I can still have the hat?”
“Yep, can’t go to Mexico and not get one. We should try and go, this year. A holiday would do us both good. Some relaxation before the baby comes.”
“We should, if you could get the time off. Even for a week would be nice. You, me and no screaming fans to interrupt. Imagine all the things we could do.”
“We can do some now if you want.” She raised an eyebrow at him as he unlocked the door.
“Oh, definitely.” He smiled as she led him through the apartment by the belt loops of his jeans.

There's a trailer by the sea down in Mexico.
We dreamt a lot about it but we never did go.
Some dreams are better from afar, that's just how things are.
And everything's all right 'cause Jessie's singing me to sleep tonight.
Jessie's singing me to sleep tonight.

Dom lay on his back on the bed smiling as Jessie drew patterns on his chest with her finger. Her head resting on his shoulder as she hummed softly, her throat vibrating against his arm. It was as if she was purring, a content cat in his arms. He chuckled softly as he thought about how she was so catlike, happy to spend days in bed with him not doing anything, getting up to work for a few hours before coming back home and heading to bed once more with him. “Lets do it, lets go to Mexico.”
“I can’t wait.” She kissed him before returning to her humming, her finger still tracing patterns across his chest. They both knew it wouldn’t happen but loved the thought that one day they might.
“You should take Shox up on his offer.”
“And which one would that be?” She smiled cheekily at him before returning to humming once more. It was the same song that she always hummed after they had had sex.
“That song he wrote and wants you to sing on.”
“He only offered because you asked him to and I’m not a singer.”
“Your not? Then what were you doing this morning and tonight at work?”
“That was … being happy, I was being happy. You ask anyone and they will tell you I don’t sing.”
“I did ask your mum actually, a few weeks back now. She said that she’d never heard you sing until the first night I met her.”
“See, never sung before and my mother is the one person who would know.” Jessie smiled contently and stared at him waiting for him to disagree. He just smiled and kissed her forehead laughing.
“Okay, you won’t sing for the world, but will you sing for me? Now?” She scrunched up her nose and he kissed it. “Please?”
“Only because I love you. But what would I sing for you?”
“How bout the song you were just humming?” She cleared her throat and began to sing. There wasn’t any music but her voice sounded perfect as she sung softly, only loud enough for him to hear. He closed his eyes listening to her letting it lull him to sleep.

Re: Georgia Rain
Wow, just finished reading this and it's GREAT!
Loved how you showed his insecurity about himself and his career, how he's questioning himself being worthy of her and his tinge of jealousy towards the others. Very believable and lifelike.
