Final Fantasy VIII Sidequest: Deep Sea Research Center
Deep Sea Research Center
Ok, I'm going to guide you through this side quest if you need anyhelp with it. THERE ARE NO SPOILERS!!!
First off, level up to about 70 or above. Make sure your party has their Ultimate weapons. Use this party. USE IT! This walkthrough wont work for you if you don't! Zell, Squall, Quistis. Have your characters get 9,999 health. Junction 100 Ultima to strength, 100 Quake to HP, and if you can, you dont have to, junction 100 pain to your status attack. Also, stock up on a TON of full-life and Aura spells, and disperse them among your party members. Dont junction anything to your Elemental Attack, it wont help you, and for some enemies, it will heal them. Also, Enc-None doesn'y work, so dont use it. Also, Quistis must know Degenerator. I completed this side quest with out Shockwave Pulsar, so you don't need it. Also, give Quistis the Initiative ability, give Zell the Recover ability, give everyone the Magic ability, and Zell the Draw ability. That about sums up the prerequisites(sp?).
Ok, get Quistis down to the yellow health. Fly to the south-eastern most point on the world map and fly around. You should see the Deep Sea Research Center (insert sparkles here) Fly over it and land. Go into the DSRC. You see this glowing bluey thingie. DONT WALK WHEN IT'S GLOWING! If you do you are forced into a battle. Sometimes the crystal tricks you. It will start to not glow, then start glowing at full blast. Be prepared. Keep walking to your right, until you get to the very front of the crystal. When you are, start walking towards it. When you reach it, Bahamut will talk to you. He asks you a series of questions, and after every time you answer one, you have to face a Ruby Dragon (have Quistis use Degenerator on it). If you get it wrong, you have to face a Ruby Dragon, and answer the same question again. Ok, the answers to his questions are:
Bahamut: "So you wish to challenge me..."
Choose: "It's not our will to fight"
Bahamut: "Begging me for mercy?"
Choose: "Never"
Bahamut: "Damned imbeciles. Why do you wish to fight?"
Choose: There is a hidden option. It's underneath No.2. Move your cursor on No.2, then go down once. Select it.
Boss Fight! You vs. Bahamut
Ok, start off with Quistis using an Elixer on herself, or casting Curaga on herself. Have Zell cast Aura on Squall. Have him use Renzokuken over and over. When Aura fades off of him, recast it on him. With luck, he'll use Lion Heart, and kill Bahamut in one hit. KEEP SQUALL ALIVE! If you want added insurance, cast Blind on Bahamut. After a few Renzokukens, or a Lion Heart, you will beat Bahamut. You now gain the shiny new GF Bahamut!
After that, the blue crystal blows up. Heal your party and save. Go down. There, you find this mechanism that uses steam power to open up the next level. Here is the key to getting through this:
1st floor: 4 units are spent automatically. You now have 16 units left.
2nd floor: Use 1 unit. You now have 15 units left.
3rd floor: Use 1 unit. You now have 14 units.
4th floor: Use 1 unit. You now have 13 units.
5th floor: Use 1 unit. You now have 12 units
6th floor: Inspect the weird machine. Allow Zell to handle the machine. You will open the door without using any steam power.
Ok, now here is the annoying part. Make sure you've got your party healed and ready to go. Go through the door. Save your game! Trek all the way down the path. Remember, Enc-None doesn't work. On your way down, you should encouter some Behemoths. Make sure you get a barrier from them if you dont already have Mighty Guard on Quistis! When you get to the bottom, Junction someone with the Move-Find ability. Use the Save Point you found. YOU HAD BETTER USE IT! Inspect the control panel. Use 10 units of steam. GET READY!
Boss Fight! You vs. Ultima Weapon
Start the battle off with Quistis casting triple on Zell. Have Zell draw Eden from Ultima! YOU BETTER DO THIS! Have Quistis cast Aura on Squall. Have Squall Renzokuken Ultima Until he gets a Lion Heart, which will kill him instantly, if you have 100 ultima junctioned to his strength. Once Aura wears off on Squall, cast it on him again. If a character dies, revive him/her with Full-Life. If Ultima casts Grivija, use Recover on everyone. If you have a chance to cast aura on Quistis, do so. Use Mighty Guard. Keep this up, and Ultima should die. The rewards for defeating him are INCREDIBLE! You get 100 Ultima Stones and 100 AP. And you get Eden if you LISTENED TO ME AND DREW IT!
After you beat Ultima, save, heal, and trek back up to the surface. All the monsters have disappeared, so you don't have to battle! CONGRATS! You just accomplished the greatest and hardest side-quest there isin FFVIII! Don't you feel special?
Thankyou for reading.
