Division Breakdowns
Over the next week or so, I will be breaking down each division individually and give a half-way recap of what has happened to each team. Today i will start with Pacific Division
Pacific Division
L.A. Clippers: (8-8; 1 unplayed) -
The Clippers are currently 1-1 (with 1 unplayed) with their new owner gadawg. The .500 record should be good enough to get these guys into the playoffs. They are currently in fourth place in the pacific division, and it doesnt look like they will be passing anyone in the division anytime soon, unless gadawg has something to say about it. With the all-star, Lamar Odom playing at the top of his game, they should be able to squeek into one of the last playoff spots in the west. With Olowokandi being a force on the boards, Odom putting up good all around numbers, it may just be the Clippers year for some play-off action...
Golden State Warriors: (6-9; 3 unplayed) - Goldenstate; a team surrounded by adversity, with 3 games unplayed, it is difficult to determine where these guys are in terms of the standings. Manwhosoldtheworld, has done an extremely good job with these guys. He is getting production from Jamison, and Mookie Blaylock. If they can perform well in the latter half of the year, they will compete with the Clippers for one of the last spots in the West. It will be a tough road ahead for these boys from OakTown, but if they play well enough, it is a definant possibility that they will be seeing some playoff ball.
Seattle SuperSonics: (7-10; 1 unplayed)
The Sonics are again a team, that are struggling around the .500 mark. It will be a difficult task for them to get there with a conference as difficult as the west is. Howver with one game unplayed they are still in the hunt for that all mighty last playoff spot in the west. And they certainly have the weapons to get there. With two allstars to their credit, the sonics have a nice one two punch, in Gary Payton and Patrick Ewing. They can either kill you down low, or from the outside, and if they both get hot, you'd better watch out. If they play well in the last half of the year, they will be in the playoffs, this team is too good not to be.
Phoenix Suns: (15-2)
Well, here we have the best team in the league, lead by one of the leaders of our league, Kiyama. He certainly has done great work with the Phoenix squad. He has weapons, in Cliff Robinson, Jason Kidd, Shawn Marion, Rodney Rodgers etc. etc. Kiyama knows how to use this team well, and it shows when you play him. This is a team that, like Seattle can kill you down low, and from the outside. Especially with Robinson, this guy can post up, and he can hit 3's. If you play them you better watch Cliff. Oh yeah, i forgot to mention they have the best passer in basketball in Jason Kidd. Unfortunately for them they only have 1 allstar in this lineup, when i think they could have had 3 players make the team. But at least they get the weekend off This team is a force to be reckon with. THey are contenders for the West Conference title, and i think they will win it. They will most likely make a run to the Finals, where they have a great chance to win it all.
L.A. Lakers: (9-8 )
The Lakers are coming back from a slow start, this year. And with the new owner, Bently, they are 5-1. This guy is amazing, and he knows that this team has many strengths. He utilizes them to the fullest. He can crash the boards, and have Shaq come up with 20 boards per game easy, while pounding the paint and having him score 30 +. If that doesnt work he'll kil ya with Kobe, probably the best player in transition in the NBA. He has a nasty cross over, and he gets a path to the lane to frequently because of it. Bently has turned this team around, and made them into a legitimate contender to go to the finals. He probably wont win the Conference because of the slow start, but he will be in the playoffs, and probably make quite a run at the finals. Lets see if they can 3-peat!
Sacramento Kings: (11-6)
Sacramento had a great start to the year, going 8-3 in their first 11 games. They have cooled off since then, going 3-3. And in a division as tough as this, it will cost them the division title. They are a great team, dont get me wrong. They have one of the best PFs in the league in C-Webb, and a great PG in Williams. Peja can jack em up from anywhere, as can Williams, so this a team that should not be taken lightly due to their so-so record as of late. Mattharding is a great player, and he will also make a run at the NBA Finals. With player f the week Webber (not an allstar!?!?!) this team can go as high as Webber will carry them, and that may be very high.
Portland TrailBlazers: (6-11; 1 unplayed)
The Blazers are a team that has been strange all season. Going through owners like hot-cakes. Lets hope Akura can stick with em, and maybe give them a run to the playoffs. It is a long way away for this team with a terribly slow start. But hopefully with a new commited owner, they will play better. This team has all the weapons, including two of the leaders in Blocks Per game in Wallace and Pippen. This is a team that can crash the boards, score from the post and outside. Akura is the determining factor on how good these guys will be, we dont know much about him yet. But if he is good, then they could make it to the playoffs, if not, then they'll have to wait til next year.
Final Predicted Division standings:
Phoenix Suns
La Lakers
Sacramento Kings
La Clippers
Seattle Supersonics
Golden State Warriors
Portland T-Blazers
That is my recap of the Pacific Division
