Classroom Procedures

What to do when . . .

The bell rings
Be in your seat and be ready to start the warm up activity of the day. Have last night’s assignment out and as well as your textbook.

Your pencil breaks or your pen runs out of ink
Raise your hand and ask to sharpen your pencil or purchase another pen (50 cents).

You hear an emergency signal
Stop immediately and give me your undivided attention.

You finish your work early
Review the work you have completed to make sure it is correct. Ask your teacher if there is anything else you can do. If not, then work quietly on another assignment from another class.

You have a question
Raise your hand and begin your question by saying, “J’ai une question . . . “

You need to go to the bathroom
You will be asked to wait a minimum of 15 minutes after the class has started before being allowed to go. You are also not allowed to go during the last 15 minutes of class. Then raise your hand and ask in French, “Puis-je aller au WC?”

You want to get a drink of water
Raise your hand and ask in French, “Puis-je boire de l’eau?”

OTHER PROCEDURES

How to enter the classroom
Enter quietly with as little noise as possible. Find your chair and leave all food outside. Begin the daily activity.

Where to find the daily assignment
It will be on the overhead projector.

What to do when I want you attention
1.        Eyes on the speaker
2.        Quiet
3.        Be still
4.        Hands free (put things down)
5.        Listen

How a paper is done
A paper is to be done neatly with your French name and your real last name. Any shortcuts taken will result in half credit. Please do not use an ink color that is hard to read. (i.e. pink, light blue, etc.)

Where to place the paper
Place the paper (when I tell you) in the slot for your class. The slots will be labeled by period.

How to find assignments if you have been absent
1.        Check with a reliable classmate
2.        Check with me outside of class – set an appointment
3.        Check the lesson places posted for each week

What to do at dismissal of class
Where there are five minutes or so left in the period, I will tell you that it is time to clean up. Clean up the area around you. Stay by your desks.

What to do when you are tardy
This is the tardy policy that will be in effect beginning the second week of school. For the first tardy, you will lose 25 bonus points from your running total. For the second tardy, you will lose 50 bonus points from your running total. Each subsequent tardy will cost you 25 bonus points. If a student is tardy 3 or more consecutive days, the student will receive one hour of detention. Failure to serve detention will result in a referral to the counselor.

How to work in groups
Work comes first. Excessive visiting will not be tolerated and in the second semester, all visiting is to be in French.

Progress reports are given
You give me your email address (you can get 25 bonus points for your email address.)
You give me the email address of your parents (you can get 50 points if I am able verify your parent’s email address. Place a progress report form on my desk at the beginning of the period. If you wait until later in the period, then I will not fill out the form. You will have to come after school or wait another day.

Make-up Policy PLEASE READ

This paragraph is being written to clarify how to make up an assignment (home, exam, oral quiz, etc.) First the student needs to set an appointment with the teacher AFTER SCHOOL or BEFORE SCHOOL. It is the student’s responsibility to come to the instructor. I will not seek you out. If you wait too long, it becomes a strong possibility that I WILL NOT ALL YOU TO MAKE UP THE ASSIGNMENT. Giving me the tried and true, along with often used excuses of, “I was absent” or “It’s not my fault” or “I have practice . . .” etc . . . . will not be accepted. I hope to teach you as my student how to take responsibility for things and in turn you will become a better student as a result.
