Centomo doing really well!
You guys may never get him back if he keeps it up. In two road games against the Saint John Flames, he stopped 45 and 38 shots respectively in a win and a tie for the St. John's Maple Leafs. ( I'm from St. John's)
Reason he may stay is as follows; St. John's has had mediocre goaltending at best. M. Tellqvist, highly touted by the Toronto Maple Leafs as a back up for Curtis Joseph, has been a bust ever since the NHL preseason, and Mike Minard is the apparent starter for the St. John's Maple Leafs, and was signed as such so may never get a look in in the NHL, and Minard has had an up and down season. Centomo has done nothing but impress in his time in the AHL.
All the goalie situation up in Toronto did was prompted them to sign and older seasoned goalie as backup ( Corey Schwab) because Tellqvist turned out, and continues to be, a bust.
Due to this, and Centomo playing very well on the farm, so far means Memphis may not get him back for a while. Maybe not ever if things keep as they are, cause St. John's coach Lou Crawford seems to have confidence in him and Centomo hasn't disappointed.
We'll see what happens, but good for Centomo!
Cheers from a former resident of Corpus and an Icerays fan. !
