Captain k'alaa's Corner - Do You Remember?
Does anyone remember when the Internet first became popular?
Were you there when the fun and excitement of this new medium began? I was a member of a large chat group, where we basically had a lot of fun talking about all kinds of things. The best thing about it was this was all so new to us, and it was fresh, exciting and interesting meeting so many people from so many different places in the world.
Not only was being online and actually talking to other people a wonderful experience, it was a celebration of a new technology. The best thing about it was you didn't have to be a brain surgeon (or a computer professional) to use it. Anyone who could type (and many who couldn't) could enjoy it. It was a 24-hour, seven day a week wonder where you could always go to bend an ear or to let someone else bend yours. You could celebrate happy events, commiserate about sad ones, and meet people you never could have met any other way.
But people - being human - had their faults, and sometimes things would go bad. People would get into arguments, sometimes intentionally hurt each other, and do things that were somehow unforgivable. What most of us had forgotten was that no matter how new this technology was, people were still people -- with all their virtues AND faults, and most of what you could expect from everyday life was also to be expected online.
We are now arranging an online chat reunion, to meet with as many people as we can contact from the old group as possible. Were you a chatter at Paramount Digital Entertainment (PDE) between 1995 and 2000? We would love to hear from you. For more information about this upcoming event, please email us at kinda@msn.com, with your old nick name.
