Best Duo possibile?
The nice thing about Necromancers & Conjurors is that they bring a third target into the frey... It's immeasurably useful. Sunethra can heal her pet nearly as well as a third-rate healer (say, Fury level or so). And by the that time a large majority of our damage has been dealt. When the pet dies, if the monster isn't close, we are both at full health and able to leave it alone, or even manage to freeze it occasionally (conjuror) long enough for a new pet to be born and re-enter the frey.

That being said, I'm pretty sure that a healer+tank is still the best duo to tackle the larger mobs... if you care about dying. :P The problem is even with the "best of both worlds" Warden (damage/healing) and a tough-as-nails tank (say, Guardian/Berserker) you will go very slow at killing even the less difficult monsters.

So it depends on what you mean by "best".

You'll be able to handle the tougher monsters, probably able to duo a white ^^^ monster or any number of monsters in a group.... but it will take you forever. :P

A bard/conjuror duo is able to tackle blue^^^'s with little problems. Our problems mostly come in the large ##'s of mobs type groups, since the pet is a slacker at taunting. :) *usually* The bard is pretty much the ultimate "jack of all trades" guy. Lowest of the DD's, but that still puts us well above the priests and the tanks (monks are close to the same...) our "healing" doesn't kick in until 30, but even in the 10-30 range, the mana song is one of the most useful songs in keeping a group alive.

A healer would probably get you two into a group faster....

I hear that the wizard/warlock (king of DD) and a solid tank are a pretty damned good combo... the problem there is off-time healing, since no one is healing anyone... but the tank takes the beating while the wizard VERY quickly dispatches monsters.

Duo is infinitely better than Solo.... so many combinations work very well... but I'd say if you don't have a conjuror with a tank pet, then a tank is half of that equation. It's just too difficult to stand up to any monster without being able to take a good solid hit.

Also, they've dramatically changed the Shaman's warding with the ability to mitigate prior to the ward expiring. Urnus and Shneaks (Mystic/Ranger) have taken out white^^^ monsters with shneak "tanking" with constant wards. But similar to the tank+wizard combo, there is a lot of downtime between fights.

I will tell you one thing, though. The trio that Sunethra and I manage with ANY of the healers is ridiculously powerful. The only thing that is difficult are the really high tier groups of mobs. (think white ^'s and ^^'s). Between Pelori and Zathina (Templar), we have taken on things that seem undoable.... For instance, Gynak Moltar (I think? Last mob in bone-bladed claymore) we managed to take out as Zathina, Sunethra, Meadow: Orange ^^^. After the combat update. Zathina has been using it as a bragging point with her guild!

Sunethra and I managed to duo him at White-con. (Single mobs usually work REALLY well.) In the lower levels of the Outer grotto in Splitspaw, we've been able to duo the yellow-con ^^^ guys, too... as long as they are solo.

Just a ton of food for thought.

I would stay away from two of the same archtype... those duo's won't work very well at all... (two tanks, two scouts, two mages, two priests). I'd also stay away from those classes that are very similar: bard&enchanter. I think I'd stay away from a wholely DD and a non-Templar... Templar's can take a decent beating... but I wouldn't put a Warden and a Wizard as a duo pair... someone has to be able to take the damage there...

I agree with all Meadow has written and have a few thoughts of my own to add, or re-add as the case may be since I sent them already but as Meadow wisely pointed out, this site needs some life.

Warden would be the choice, Furies are bad Healers, and Shamans are even worse.

Shamen excel at debuffing and warding but cant keep up with the damage a tankly type will take.

Furies excel at Damage but cant keep up with the damage a tankly type will take.

Wardens suck at damage but have decent control abilities, AoE root, snare etc, and are excellent healers. Stackable regens multiple target heals, multi-target regens and some nice damage spells that debuff to boot.

Since you've done the templar thing I assume you are looking for another healing class and Wardens are the second in line, no one beats a Templar for healing but as you know you're damage against most critters takes a while to pile up. Wardens however can solo quite effectively, I found out I can take things tanks of my same level cant, it takes longer but I can do it and they cant, thats a critical difference in my view.

I dont know alot about Monks but they are soft targets but do great damage, I would hazard a guess that a Monk could pour out enough damage that a Warden with their second rate healing could keep up long enough to kill a critter. Of course a harder tank type would work better, a Guardian or Pally would be an excellent pair with a Warden.

I would be very interested to see what a Warden / Necro combo could do, it sounds like a very doable combo.

But thats just my opinion.
