I'm twleve weeks pregnant and started eating a more controlled carb diet, one because my husband is starting to, and two, it felt like my eating was out of control and I was gaining weight in my mind at too fast of a rate. I'm a "normal" weight pregnant mom, but wanted to make sure that I gain only up to 30 lbs or so and the rate I was going I was going to exceed that by much more. I have found my weight gain has slowed down and I am trying to manage my healthy carbs so thatI gain about a pound a week. Plus since, I gave up the refined carbs, my energy is much better.

This is really a suprise hearing about this low carb during pregnancy, I'm 7 weeks, I noticed when I got on the scales that I had lost 3 pounds, and I had been eating alot, then I began to think about what I had been eating and it was low carbs and a lot of protein. I felted good about it, but then I began to wonder if this was good for the baby. from what ive read today I guess it's ok! I feel great, just sleepy alot,

I may be three weeks along and I too was wondering about the low carb deal. I've started eating that way many months ago. I does sound like it is okay we just have to be really selective about the carbs and what we eat. I think it boils down to "Eat healthy carbs" Good luck to everyone and let's have happy healthy babies. God bless! Ginger

There has been very little scientific research concerning the long-term effects of the Adkin's diet. No one can proove that this diet is safe. It is a fact, however, that the more protein the body takes in the more calcium it excretes, therefore long-term use could lead to osteoporosis. Another fact is the by product of protien metabolsim is an acid that builds up in the kidneys, and is responsible for the formation of kidney stones. Why choose a diet that excludes food and nutrients that is essential to your body and can be potentially harmful? If you want to loose weight in a healthy manner, cut down on your meat portions or cut it completely out of your diet. Concerns about inadequate protein intake can be laid to rest by combining a mixture of grains and legumes, nuts and grains, or legumes and nuts. For instance, a peanut butter sandwich yields the essential protein your body needs without eating meat! Hope I helped and good luck.
