Another Night in the City of Sins... (April 3rd, year 311)
A dark sky bleeds a sullen rain over grey and misty streets. Pale yellow gas lamps cast a fitful and resentful light in shallow pools on the uneven cobbles. Deep shadows gather menacingly in alley-mouths and doorways, while abandoned storefronts and empty tenement houses cluster on both sides like broken teeth. The air reeks of hopelessness and apathy, the stench of broken promises and dreams ground to dust beneath the feet of a cruel world. Screams of pain and mocking laughter pierce the chill night intermittently, serving only as a reminder that the weak feed the appetites of the strong. The harsh neon lights of the entertainment district beckon enticingly, a trap and snare for those who enter alone.
In the colorless gloom a slash of radiant color slowly resolved into a silently walking figure. A rich crimson coat flows nearly to the cobblestones, twisting in the wind to reveal a rust colored shirt so tight it might well have been painted on the perfectly sculpted chest it covers. Black pants as supple as glove-leather lovingly wrap tightly muscled legs, ending in low renaissance boots. Wreathed in sweetly spicy smoke from the dark red cigarillo held lightly in long, elegant fingers, no rain falls around him. Gently brushing a strand of his deep scarlet hair out of his face, Lukavai Del’Veira smiles mirthlessly, an eldritch light glimmering in his shockingly emerald eyes. Another night in Nuresse, the dark city of sin. The lunatics and villians were out in force, and looking for entertainment. Where better than the Ikki! Ikki!, the most decadent club in this decadent city. Time for his shift as bouncer, Lukavai took his position at the door.
"Looks like it's going to be a rough night. Good thing I'm already in a bad mood..."

Re: Another Night in the City of Sins...
A woman with deep black hair walked tantalizingly down the alleyways of Nureese, her hips swaying to the rhythm of unheard music, the soft rain pouring down from the polluted sky. The burgundy dress that hugged the obviously feminine body clung to each and every womanly curve, displaying them beautifully. All that could be seen of her eyes were a pure black pupil, no iris was evident in the eyes. There was a patch of sidewalk where the streetlights failed to reach and plunged the woman into complete darkness. Before she reached it, her eyes glittered through each of the colors of the rainbow in a split second, the colors changing rapidly like oil on water. Then, there was nothing but blackness.

The heels stopped crunching against gravel and instead, the quick steps of an adolescent male picked up where they left off. He was tall, lanky, with the nearly bare beginnings of a beard tickling at his chin. Pure blonde hair gleamed to his shoulders in silky waves and fell across the hollow of his throat. His skin was tanned from what appeared to be a luxurious lifestyle and the tailored suit with an open silk shirt led any watchers to believe just that. Again, the rainbow effect took over the pure ink black eyes of the young man Again, the streetlights faded into darkness and the stylish leather shoes were immediately lead into a deeper tread.

An older man, probably in his mid thirties emerged from the darkness, his medium brown hair cut in a style short to his head, yet leaving a woman enough to run her fingers through if the need came. He lit up a cigarette and inhaled, then glanced up at the street signs before exhaling again. The work boots on his feet crunched through a puddle of green slime he’d not seen in a small pothole in the sidewalk and he cursed under the streetlight at the corner, rubbing the shoes against the ground in aggravated motions. The black eyes glittered angrily and he set a long tread toward the nearest place where there was an absence of light. The alley to the back of the Ikki! Ikki! was where he just happened to turn and the lips smiled softly before the eyes once again changed from red to orange to yellow to green to blue to violet to indigo, and finally, to black.

From the work boots emerged a pair of stilettos that led up a luscious set of legs to a skimpy costume made only of gold chains wrapped around the body of an auburn haired woman. The chains were small enough to form a sort of dress that hung to mid thigh, leaving more exposed than she cared to realize. The hair was lush, falling to the waist in straight, almost amber-like strands. The beauty was all justified when she opened her mouth and the fangs dripped down, and all could see she bore what some feared: the fangs of a vampire. Gold makeup was stroked lovingly around the tall woman’s black eyes and she entered the Ikki! Ikki!’s alleyway.

V’on could become any person that it could envision. Being male nor female gave it the upper advantage at changing seamlessly between the two, however, it adored both sets of genders in every species. There was something entrancing about a man’s shoulders and back that a woman just didn’t possess. Breasts and curves to no end fascinated V’on as well.

The only passion V’on felt was the thrill of thievery. The shape shifter’s ability to change appearance allowed it to get away with murder, if it so chose. Greed was the driving force of this entity, the desire to possess almost every material object that it saw and wanted. Tonight was unlike any other. Assuming another face and name, V’on would dance among the other breeds until the need to fade into darkness and change again took hold. Though it had the ability to change between appearances, it wasn’t long until the true nature of its body took hold and rejected the outer façade, insisting upon absorbing it and reverting to its original form. Trying to access the club quickly without the security noticing, V’on tugged on the side entrance door, stilettos sliding in the rain that poured down.

A growl sounded from the creature’s throat as it didn’t give way as it did some nights. Now the face it wore would have to be seen. A spot between lights in the alley was just ahead and V’on moved toward it, skin itching as it appeared to melt into sheer blackness. The eyes changed again, but this time they closed as the transformation took place. In just a few seconds, a man with dark hair stepped out of the night, covered in a leather jacket with a high collar. This appearance was more suited to the rain as well as more likely to land women with purses and jewelry. Denim pants hung low on his hips, a mint green dress shirt barely visible beneath the trench coat. The mouth of this man was wide and sensual, perhaps a tad too big for the face it possessed, yet, the characteristic somehow added to his attractiveness. Black studs lingered in his ears and black boots protected his feet. As he approached the door of the Ikki!Ikki!, he moved through it, not paying much attention to the security at all except for the bump his shoulder felt when he hit the guy.

Re: Another Night in the City of Sins...
Lukavai's hand closed on the shoulder of the punk trying to shoulder past him, gently, but with a feeling of inescapable gravity.
"Excuse me, young man." His voice was friendly, almost apologetic. "I need you to tell me your name, so I may check to see if you happen to be on the list." While speaking, Lukavai allowed his vision to slip into the etheric, to better see the aura of the kid who had unwisely tried to push past him. What he saw puzzled him. Not the steady glow of a mortal, or the witchfire of a Daemon or Celestine, the... being's aura flowed and shifted, as mercurial as oil. Although the quicksilver sheen was common on zooanthropes, he had never seen more than a fine sheen on a normal aura. This could mean only one thing.
"I'll also have to ask you to wear your OWN face. Shapeshifting is impolite." Lukavai tightened his grip and waited for a response.
The strange aura sparked a memory, seeing flickers of that same weird quicksilver glow surrounding different people on different nights, always near someone who turned up robbed or dead before the night was through.
"On second thought, how about we dispense with names and you fuck off to wherever you belong before I get violent."

Re: Another Night in the City of Sins...
The man let out a disgusted sigh and wrenched himself from the demon’s grip. He fixed his clothing carefully and smoothed his hair back before meeting Lukavai’s eyes. “Judge and ye shall be judged, bastard.” This façade was full of contempt for others and along with V’on’s own unemotional nature, it could cause a problem with the bouncer. The shapeshifter didn’t really want to have to fight for what he wanted, not that it would truly hurt him to get hit. He’d rather just take what he wanted from those too drunk or deceived to fight back. With a jerk of his chin, he pivoted, turned, and disappeared into the darkness of the alleyway. V’on would have to find another way in if it wanted to score tonight. A few minutes passed as he circled the block and tried to remember all that he had seen around the Ikki! Ikki! during the time he had frequented it. As it found a completely dark alley, the shapeshifter began to envision a creature almost too beautiful to be true. It envied this one, her strength, and the whispers of her power in a city it had never seen, Genal? Genile? Something like that. As it focused, the outer image of a man disappeared and faded into the blackness of its body. The humanoid creature opened its eyes as they flashed through all the colors of the rainbow, pulsing with each change. Soon, long hair flowed downward as the image of a broken angel took hold of its appearance.

She was more than beautiful, breath-taking even. A woman with light green locks and emerald green eyes stepped out of the darkness, and moved toward her own personal quarters in the Ikki! Ikki! A door invisible to almost all other creatures appeared to V’on and he entered it smoothly, almost as if he was in fact Morrigan Aensland herself, though he didn't know her name. Violet latex clung to the Succubus’s body in the most delicious of ways, playing on every curve. She moved teasingly even though she was alone, and entered the night club from another entrance. The room she entered was the sleeping quarters of a creature disowned by both societies she came from, Genil distrusting of her true nature, Nureese unknowing of who she really was. She maneuvered her way through the night club, picking out a mark rather quickly. A man sitting alone at a table had a mysterious device in front of him, shining metal and wood that amused V’on in a strange, sadistic way. Soon, Morrigan’s appearance had charmed the man to the point that she was sitting next to him in the booth and they were both laughing and enjoying drinks. Guarding her eyes flirtatiously, V’on leaned over and whispered something into the man’s ear that made his eyes open wide and his lips curve into a suggestive smile. Little did V'on know, the man most likely feared Morrigan as well as felt desire for her. One of the toughest cage fighters, maybe the most terrifying, in the Ikki! Ikki!, this woman had fought many battles with many different creatures. V'on had only seen her sneaking in through the alleyway with her hood up, catching the slightest glance of her appearance. That was all he needed, truly.

Re: Another Night in the City of Sins...
The rain intensified, darkening the sky and muffling the sounds of the city, beating them down to a disquieting mutter. The drops never got within a foot of Lukavi's skin, but it was enough to drag his mood even further into the gutter. The prick who had tried to brush past him was bothering him. He had moved like a regular, and that aura... Lukavai was certain that he was up to trouble, even though it usually took a few minutes of study to pick up emotional undertones in an aura.
"Bugger this, it's time for my break anyway. Thames, take the door, I'm off for an hour or three."
Thames was a good kid, if a bit dense, but he knew when to chuck a rowdy out the door. Lukavai shrugged off his jacket and slid through the crowd to the bar.
"I need a double. And no ice, that trick was only funny the first time." Lukavai's little problem with water had been an old standby for amusement on slow nights, but watching a glass scoot away from his hand for the umpteenth time, carrying away his much needed alcohol, would do nothing to relieve his foul humor.
Something was nagging at him, something... Off. There was something out of place tonight. If only he could place it... He settled back in his stool and hammered back his drink.
"Keep 'em coming. I'm done working for the night." Seren would understand, after all, Lukavai had pulled in countless late shifts and replacements in his time minding door, and he was far too pissed off to keep his post. Somebody might get dead if he kept it up. Lukavai leaned back and decided to kill time until he figured it out. It looked like it was going to be a long night.

Re: Another Night in the City of Sins...
Morrigan’s lips moved and her voice spoke, only the eyes were different. Though V’on had tried to hold on to the color of emeralds, the juicy gems that spilled out so nicely on velvet, its eyes were fading back to the dull black as the custom was. It could keep the façade up a lot longer than it could keep eye color from fading back into the natural material of its body. As the shape shifter’s fingers slid up the handle of the pistol on the table, the man laughing at her curiosity, something caught its eyes quickly. A drunken vampire with large breasts had a ruby resting between them, attached to a slinky chain around her neck. The desire to possess it nearly over came V’on and the creature shuddered suddenly, much to the delight of her male companion. Standing up, violet latex hugging curves, the shifter moved toward the restrooms, following the hips of the feminine vampire with little more than a promising wink toward her mark. Surely, it wanted the gun, but first and foremost came the rock.

Re: Another Night in the City of Sins...
Tai looked into the depressing atmospere of rain, dirt, grime, and stink of decay, decay of the mind as well as the body. The bodies that could pile up in the streets and the inhabitants of this disgusting and disturbing city wouldn't blink an eye. Lukavai would be pissed off by this rain. It would remind of the simple and always present state of hatred water held for him. Hatred so much that it refuses to even to even lightly touch that beautiful face. A beautiful face that had helped her on her first night here in this strange world.

A world inhabited by both sides of almost everything. Death, yet life. Beauty, yet everlasting ugliness. And love...Yet ever apparent apathy. She reflected on how she and Luk had met on the way to the Ikki! Ikki!.

Sticking to the shadows, sneaking silently through groups of people, people who were oblivious to the beauty passing right through their midst. If they had seen her, the jet black hair, the slashing cheekbones framing those strangely bottle-glass green eyes: they would never have let a prize like her slip through their grasp. The anger passed through her. Everyone here had a single reason for belonging, yet they just wanted to sit in their stagnant pools of self-pity, self-deprecation, and self-hatred. They made her physically sick. Her stalking stride seemed to break, just for a second, then strengthened imperceptibly.

She had left one world of court jesters and fools for another. She reminded herself that that life was behind her, literally. She strode up out of the shadows, disturbing an aging vampire that was closing in on its intended victim, it snarled at her, then leered at her, forgetting that its dinner was sprawled in front of it in a hapless, unknowing surrender. It took but a single dagger at his neck to remind him that she was not interested, the hot anger in her eyes showcasing her absolute lack of fear. He backed off with a growl.

The Ikki! Ikki! rose up in front of her. "Thames! Hey, its Tai, let me through!" She shouted to be heard above the cries of the people who hadn't been let through. She shouldered her way past the piles of discontented, "Thames, I need to talk to Luk, let me through, will ya?" Tai walked past him when he moved, and strode up to the bar, catching the attention of most of the men in the bar, and half the women. The catcalls and hoots only making her appearance noticeable. More noticeable than she would have liked.

"Well, at least he'll be warned," she said to herself. "Oh, I hope he's not in too bad of a mood." She caught sight of puple latex as she passed, and something tenous and insubstantial passed through her mind, something...but what? Something niggled at her mind... Oh well. She moved the last ten feet to the bar, "Hey Seren, can a thirsty girl get a drink or what?" She leaned over Lukavai's shoulder as she caught the subtle approval in the owners eyes...So it had not been a good night. Time to tread careful...

Re: Another Night in the City of Sins...
The mists behind a restaurant swirled and spiraled away as a form walked through it. The form in question was a woman a stray light revealed. Her long raven black hair was tied in a high ponytail, matching the tight pants that she wore. Despite her red leather corset, the only sound that could be heard was the rustle of cloth, which was no louder than the sigh of a mouse. She made no audible sound as she padded down the deserted street on the tips of bare feet. The soft fabric of the men's shirt that she wore under her corset swung loosely around her arms.

A noise caused her to duck into a nearby alcove. And a dark skinned woman walked by with the smell of human blood wafting and lingering after her. She felt the beginnings of the Thirst coming upon her. Beladona Nightshade stepped out of the dark to follow this strange, wandering woman, but soon realized she had been led in a circle. She decided to look for easier prey. Beladona followed a different, darker alleyway and came upon the side entrance of a local nightclub called the Ikki! Ikki!. She stood back and watched the door from a distance, and with it, the young male with red hair. After a few minutes, with a look of frustration and anger, he turned and yelled inside, then proceeded inside himself. Beladona continued to watch, and just as she was about to approach the door herself, a woman walked around the corner. Human! Her senses screamed at her. And a surprisingly attractive woman she was. This time the Thirst was stronger, she was getting hungry, and that was very dangerous with Beladona...The woman got through the door with minor frustration from the man at the door.

Beladona decided to wait just a little longer... then she approached. As soon as she got to the door, she turned on her seldom used charm. She first tried to gently nudge past him, but a heavy hand landed on her shoulder. "I'm sorry ma'am, but you're not on the list." he said apologetically. "But if you let me past this one time, I promise I won't bother you again." she replied. His will wavered for a second, but he shook his head and still refused.
After five more minutes of trying to barter her way in, he finally, with a look of utmost frustration, said "Just a second." to Beladona. He then turned and shouted "Lukavai!" over his shoulder. It took a few times to get this person's attention, but apparently got a response, because her turned back to Beladona.

Re: Another Night in the City of Sins...
The familiar sounds of Tai's entrance brought a smile to Lukavai's face. They had come to an arrangement when they first met; Lukavai let her stay at his home, rent free, and Tai helped keep him out of his famous black humors.
As she settled down with her drink, Lukavai polished off his and favored her with a sardonic grin. "I can't stand all this bloody rain. Reminds me of home, you know?"
Over at the door, Thames was trying to get his attention. Lukavi nodded at him to let whoever it was in, after all, Seren paid them to throw drunks and troublemakers out, not turn them away before they had a chance to empty their wallets. The Ikki! Ikki! hadn't gotten it's reputation by being a friendly place, after all.
The sound of Morrigan's voice brought Lukavai's head around in curiosity, she never dropped by without at least getting his attention. What he saw turned his blood to ice. Two eyes, dull and lusterless black, not the brilliant emerald he knew. The patch over the ruin that demon had made of her right eye was missing as well. Seething rage boiled in his heart at the teremity of this impersonator, flashing the ice in his veins to white-hot magma. His muscles writhed and knotted, begging release into his Cambion form, aching to rend, to shatter and bring ruin to everything in his sight. By chance, his hate-clouded vision fell on Tai, and enough of his wrath subsided to allow him to think clearly.
He stood, ignoring the pops and clicks of his bones as they tried, against his will, to lengthen. Tightening his self-control, he walked as slowly as he dared to the table where Morrigan's doppleganger sat. His voice was low and far from his usual light bassi nova tones, cold and impersonal. "You've made two mistakes. One, the real Morrigan is missing her right eye, and the left eye is green. Two," Lukavai loomed over the unfortunate mimic, "You decided to copy one of my friends." The blur of his hand moved far too quickly for most mortals to see, much less react to, as he attempted to hurl the mimic across the room into the Ikki! Ikki!'s famous fight pit.

"Thank you." She said politely to the man at the door when, with a sigh, he let her by. Within minutes of her entrance, the same dark skinned young man whom had been at the door before, walked across the room, his footsteps heavy, his face angry. He stopped by a young woman sitting in a booth, bent over saying something into her ear. Then he picked her up and tried to hurl her across the room towards the fighting ring. Beladona watched in amazment and curiosity at the whole encounter.

Glancing to the bar, Beladona saw the young woman she'd seen enter while she was outside. The young woman ordered a drink as she made her way over to the exquisite creature before her. She stood as close as possible to her without touching her, and asked "Do you know that young man?" She watched for any reaction, and tried to catch the young woman's eyes into her gaze.

Re: Another Night in the City of Sins...
The shape shifter felt itself take flight, the sensation nothing new to it. Having inhabited bodies with wings before, the novelty of the sensation had grown old in the very beginning. The feeling of the succubus’s body crushing against the far wall of the cage, however, was something welcomed and almost pleasant if it hadn’t hurt. In its natural form, nothing caused it pain aside from sunlight. Here, at least, it could feel the pain and the violence that trembled within the body it inhabited. Half of Morrigan’s power was enough to keep the Shifter from being slaughtered entirely in the ring, though, it knew that it would lose the fight. There was something magical about the Ikki!Ikki!’s fighting system that the being had yet to see, only hearing of it in snippets of conversations.

The Ikki!Ikki!’s cage fights always had a sort of spell placed over the cage. As soon as the doors were closed, the battle did not end until one of the fighters was either killed or totally incapacitated. There would be no looking back for those who shied away from violence, only the realization that death waited in the very wings of the stage. The fighters would slice away at each other until death, the winner always being clearly dominant in the end. That was when the magic would take hold and the dead fighter would evaporated from the canvas floor of the ring, only to find his or herself outside of the Ikki!Ikki!, alive but defeated. Perhaps death would have been a better fate for those who placed power higher than life.

The image of Morrigan stood after a few moments, deadly and seductive in a dark way. V’on’s smile showed through on the lush lips, coquettish and tempting Lukavai to join the other fighter in the ring. “I’ve made mistakes?” The shape shifter held out a large ruby-like jewel on a golden string, a murdered girl’s trinket. “Your definitions are most certainly different than mine.” A scream sounded from the restroom and the Shifter knew the body had been found, but still, the lips smiled, the eyes flat and dead from within.

Re: Another Night in the City of Sins...
Tai carefully placed a hand on Luk, subtly cautioning him to stay careful and alert. Luk didn't go after people unless something was truly the matter. This time would not be an exception. Tai had known something was just a little off, but didn't have the same knowledge of Morrigan that he had. Now that Luk had pointed it out, Tai knew her to be a fake.

Morrigan was much more...vital, than that. Even in sadness or despair it was always there.

Tai left her hand on Luk's arm for a second, then removed it to stand by his side. Though it was doubtful that he would need the help, (had he ever in all the time they had known each other?) she was prepared to be ready, in any case.

Old memories of her last life ran through, filling her with anticipation, adrenaline, and a heady mix of emotions. Grief for her old life, relief for finally being done with it, gratitude for a second chance, and an unrecognizeable, at first, mixed emotion. Contentedness and happiness. This place had finally given her what she most desired without even knowing she lacked it.

Tai drew herself out of the past with a whisper, "Luk, thank you. Now go kick some ass." She left the backup unspoken, as always.
