4 Shows in Detroit
First off, I see that my last 2 years of posts got wiped out from that EZboard server disaster. Looks like it's time to rebuild, renew, and start all over again. We'll call it a fresh start. Everybody loves fresh starts.
So last week us Greenstreet boys had a pretty busy week in Detroit. It used to be that we'd only play like 3 shows in the Detroit-area per year, but this summer we'll slow our traveling down a bit in anticipation for our college touring in the Fall, and check out a few new bars/venues in Detroit. There's lots of stuff going on in the city this summer and we want to be a part of it. We want you to be a part of it too. So let's look at how we got things started with a breakdown of the shows last week.
WEDNESDAY 7/6 - Magic Bag (Ferndale, MI) :
What better way to start the week, than playing with one of this Summer's hottest touring acts (as per Rolling Stones Mag's suggestion), Blue Merle . The Detroit News had already featured us as the night's "Best Bets" for Detroit-area entertainment so the show was all set to rock. And that it did. The house was just a little less packed than our sold out EP Release a little over a month ago, but the vibe was electric. We were warmly welcomed by Blue Merle's fans and well supported by our own. It was really cool meeting a whole bunch of new people after the show, who also picked up plenty of copies of "Let's Talk About Some Music," and sold us out of our Greenstreet t-shirts. We encourage all of you to feel free to contact us, and we definitely look forward to seeing you all at some more shows this summer.
THURSDAY 7/7 - Campus Martius Park (Detroit, MI) :
If you live in the area and have not yet been to the new Campus Martius Park in the heart of downtown Detroit, then please do yourself a favor and check it out. We were blessed with some beautiful weather and pretty excited to enjoy an early evening entertaining outside accompanied by local reggae rockers, Jo-Nab. The only disappointment was that we had only confirmed this show to our calendar a week prior and didn't have much time to promote the show, especially with the emphasis of the previous night's show at the Magic Bag. So there was some decent thoroughfare throughout the evening, which was great, but no fans specifically for us. Met a lot of new people, though, which is always important and saw a lot of them back at Saturday night's show in Greektown. Hopefully we'll be back one more time this summer so we can let you all know. It would be a whole lot of fun.
FRIDAY 7/8 - Fishbone's (St. Clair Shores, MI) :
First and foremost I want to thank any of you that came out to enjoy this show. We appreciated your support. Overall, not the best turnout we've had at Fishbone's, but the Seafood Gumbo was delicious as always. I guess people on this side of town resort to outdoor bars when it's nice outside and who'd blame them? I only had half of a voice, which was exhausted from the previous nights' shows. So we had to cut out some of our songs and play some solid Blues sets that don't require as much vocal range from me. It was a lot of fun, though, and we got throughout the night nicely. Mike took over some lead vocals, and even surprised everyone when I left the stage with a broken string, and pulled out a version of You Shook Me Baby .
SATURDAY 7/9 - Fishbone's Greektown (Detroit, MI) :
Well, not being able to sing the night before and expiring any and all notes I could get out during the set worried me a great deal going into Saturday. Of course, that's nothing a little rest, hot tea, and prayer can't fix. So unable to use my voice the entire day in order to rest it didn't give me the ability to gauge what I could and could not do for Saturday night's set at Fishbone's. I was resting on Faith. If we could pull off a set like we did Friday night, then I could be satisfied with that, especially if it was all I could do. Turns out, I was able to do that and much more. I wasn't 100%, but compared to Friday night, I was golden. So despite a few minor squeaks here and there, we were able to play a pretty normal set, and have a lot of fun doing it. We were blessed to have a good crowd on hand. A lot of new and old friends/fans, some return listeners from Thursday's show, and some new ears helped us cap off an exhausting 4 days on a high note. The venue was delightful, with the backdrop of our stage being a 60+ foot waterfall (one worker said it was the world's tallest indoor waterfall when it was built in 1996). We'll be returning there in September so we'll be sure to include some pictures.
So that was our 4 days in Detroit. Thanks for joining us and making it a great time. See you again this summer!
